@ Cyzir

Consider drawing more of the Narwhal so that we can see its entire body.

Or is it intended to, like Diglett, be attached to a Cthullu-esque monster beneath the surface? :naughty:

I don't like the new look for the armadillo is great either, to be honest. it is kind of obnoxious
and the colour scheme is a bit bland/expected for this kind of typing. i'd love to see the "armour" have a bit of a pattern on it

same for you, Kai, I'd like to see your snake be something other than a block colour.

i'm longing for a bit of cuteness in this CAP, to be honest..

@icepick:thats pretty awesome,My only concern is that band on the snount.Maybe you can make it a bit lighter?Other than that this is my new Fav.Bravo!

Ha, I was afraid of this. The snout is actually his chin, and the band is his bottom lip. I tried the hardest to make it look like that, but I may just have to redesign his face

Contrary to popular opinion, I think the new art for the armadillo actually changed my mind about disliking it-- I love it now. I think it looks really good. It's simple while still showing a lot of personality, like a Gen I/II Pokemon.

Update guize...

I coloured the lineart posted earlier in this thread.

Yet another design, this time based off a beetle. It doesn't look very Dark/Ground now, but I could always fix that with the colour scheme.

I might consider going back in the thread and tidying up my other designs... which one do you guys think I should stick with?

chomzloh, that sphinx looks insanely cool. The color scheme and pose are great. This one is easily my favorite so far.

Anyway, I have a pencil sketch of my submission that I should be uploading tonight. Keep your eyes peeled.

Chomloz, I'd be happy with either. I would base your decision off of the stat discussion and stuff like that, but if I HAD to choose an art, I would go for the second because it reminds me of a samurai :]

I thought Caladbolg was gonna get my vote for sure when I saw the Armadillo entry so early on, but I've gotta say Cyzir's Narwhal is closing in for the vote in my mind.

@Calad, I preferred the non spiky-shouldered one, the spikes seem a little overkill to me.

@Cyzir, how about a slightly darker back / fin-tips for the narwhal? They look kind'a... Green and out of place at the moment imo :/

MysteriousfellowCAP9VOTE.jpg

I'm having trouble deciding which one to run with considering the amount of diverging comments I've gotten so far. So to make sense of the wildly different opinions I've made this. Each of my designs is assigned a number. Private message or post a number of the one that you like the most(PM would probably be best so that people don't make a post with just a number). Depending on that I will finalize and make supporting art for that design. Thank you in advanced.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll explain about everything you've asked along with a support piece I just quickly did.

Mysteriousfellow: I never decided whether it was symbiotic or just another part of the horse's body. One thing that can be assured that it is quite permanently attached to the Pokemon.

killerduck: I get what you mean about the ground element. Sadly I feel like changing anything just to give it more ground appeal is copping out. I think that the association with being a desert animal and other subtle hints are adequate enough. The hands are an example, being suited to shoveling dirt without having to use claws. There are plenty ingame examples of Pokemon that don't show a strong ground element in their design.

Sezja: Yes they are hands. They can be used to manipulate objects and dig but the Pokemon would have trouble standing upright for long. It's pretty much a quadruped. Hope that's cleared it up for you.

Knarglefigit: I worked pretty hard to make the asymmetric pose look balanced in that design but thankfully the hose isn't attached to the neck so it can be posed in different positions depending on use. I treat it as basically another limb and as such the Pokemon will probably compensate for the imbalance in weight it might cause when moving around. I can see what you're saying though.

Now for the small support to help show a bit about this Poke's life:
Donotdisturb-1.png

When I make a design I tend to think out all the details. The red and black markings on the Poke's body stick out of the sand when it's sleeping during the day as a clear warning to all would be predators to keep away. It bury's itself by either sucking up sand in its gourd, digging a bit, then spreading the sand over itself or, if its lazy, just lying down in a sandstorm.

Run Pikachu run!

(To those who missed my main design: Link to design.)

The Land Shark

i did post it beofre, but i dont see it, so im redoin it. Its based on a land shark, despite that it looks like a stingray.
landshark.jpg

Its body is made from sand formed into armour that it draws in through its body. Its angled nose and wings can deflect incoming attacks, and allow it to glide for a short while. The plates on its back will form a barrier if provoked, and can be foun at the eye of a sandstorm drawing in more sand for its armour. And able to glide deep within sand using it tail for propulsion.

lemme know what you think. ^^

wow! I've only just joined but there are some great artist here! I was going to try to pick a top 5 but its damn near impossible. Whoever has to pick the next ones to advance is sure in for one tough time.

@Armoredaxon - remember the last time we had a landshark pokemon in the metagame :p

@Chomzloh: I like the coloring and the concept looks great.

@Cyzir: I LOVE that Narwhal concept, I do think that the main Dark type should be portrayed a little more. Perhaps a coloring change or something? I am sure you will figure something out :)

I REALLY REALLY want to see a coloring of DougJustDoug's buffalo. That concept had me from the very beginning so I would love to see more work on it!

Before I attempt to shade and clean up my concept art, I'd just like to get some feedback first from you guys.

This is basically a snake that has its dark spirit trapped inside the jaws of its mouth. The dark spirit is the one that actually controls the snake, not the snake itself. I'll get into more detail for my final submission, but I'd just like some comments and criticisms before I do that.

That's disturbingly awesome. Very original. Might be a tad "Ghost-y" but I think it's fine.

Good stuff!

That's a really interesting concept, I'd love to see it in more detail. One thing I noticed is that the head of the snake has the same structure as that of Gyarados- was this intentional? If not, it's probably something you should be changing.

No, it wasn't intentional. I realized that the head looked a bit similar to Gyarados, but I didn't have any other ideas of how I can make the snake's head. Many of my ideas for snake heads just didn't do the trick, but this one kind of did.

However, if you have any ideas of how the snake head could look like, I would love to know.

This one seems rather underrated. It's really clever and fulfils most if not all of the currently decided criteria and is even one of the easiest to decide on prevos for.

Thanks, lol.

BTW, I found flaw. I decided to show y'all the following game of chess between Checkmate and Vespiquen:

Here:

checkmateversusvespiquen.png

Obviously, a picture of Attack Order. Yeah, it's listed as competitive, but redundancy with Dark means it won't exactly enjoy much use, other than as an alternate method of dealing with the local event produce of Johto (A.K.A. Celebi.) Also, Taunt, and a plain picture of Checkmate with gradients:

http://www.majhost.com/gallery/ToaNeya/kits/AdditionalContent/checkmateremake.png

One thing you may notice is that it often uses some of its pawns in a form of pantomime. Taken to an extreme with Taunt, as he makes one pawn glow the color of a tongue and uses 6 other pawns to make a frog face, as he telepathically insults its foe. He has access to some psychic abilities, but he prefers to use them to help control its pawns and deceive his foes.

Hey, it isn't called the chessmaster Pokemon for nothing. :P
