Metalheads United ;D

Anyone heard of blind gaurdian,I have been told to listen to them so i decided to download the discography.Anyone mind telling me if they are worth it and whats good/bad about them?
I think Blind Guardian rules, but that's because that type of metal is right up my alley

Also Demons and Wizards

all power/progressive metal is at least somewhat cheesy, but bands like manilla road had such excellent songwriting ability that i can overlook their cheesiness. by "too cheesy" i really mean the estrogen-soaked bands that are nothing more than catchy pop that tries to be metal. blind guardian isn't too bad in that regard, at least they don't have keyboards.

goregrind

Never seen the good in anything grind tbh, a lot of it sounds the same to me, and at times the bands just seem to be so over the top it's laughable, though I've been told that's kind of the point.

On a different topic, anyone here listen to Fear Factory? I myself have been loving Soul of a New Machine and Demanufacture, though I haven't been listening to them for very long so there's probably better, less appreciated stuff in their discography.

All genres are cheesy in my opinion. A death metal band singing about decapitating or castrating someone is just as cheesy as a power metal band singing about fantasy or mythology is just as cheesy as a black metal band singing about vikings or coldness.

I'd rather just get rid of people saying the term altogether.

PS. Converge is average.

lyrics can take a backseat to songwriting. it's keyboard overuse and overemphasis on writing catchy hooks (and nothing else) that ruins metal. metal isn't inherently cheesy... look at the glaring difference between a band like sacramentum and one like dimmu borgir.

I'm downloading The Discovery, what do they sound like?

edit: well, they sound like an instrumental meshuggah, and this reminds me of sHeavy, also an instrumental metal band and they're good

@groudon 80 and whoever else commented about blind gaurdian.
haha,ok cool thanks for that and I din't like them as much, they just sounded like a very sad and busted version of sabbath and megadeth.Going for nightwish now as I enjoyed there album dark passion play alot.......

yeah it's like a mixture of Meshuggah and Animals as Leaders.

so good.

is Cannibal Corpse any good? because they are like the best selling death metal band, but i hate their fucking album covers. that alone prevent me from listening to them (and brutal death metal/grind in general)

Wait I thought maiden was the best selling death metal band? They are one of the pioneers/best death metal band.

maiden is about as far from death metal as you can get.

cannibal corpse is trash btw. best-selling =/= good, especially with death and black metal where best-selling is practically synonymous with "lets appeal to hot topic kids, who cares about writing quality music?!"

if you want good "brutal" death metal, check out suffocation. sadly, most of the genre is full of degenerate, unoriginal clones.

No, I tried listening to them and they are not that great in my opinion because of their repetitive songwriting. If you want some decent death metal try Obituary, Death or Morbid Angel.

holy fuck.

Cloudkicker is indescribably good.

jaw has been dropped.

dude you're right oh my god

I usually don't like bands that sound like that because bands that have that heavy thrash sound (meshuggah-esque), I hate their vocals, but no vocals at all are GREAT

man I'm getting kind of tired of not having black sabbath's first, fifth, or sixth albums... I have been looking in local stores for them but... uh fuck that. I am currently on amazon buying them. I don't even have a real mailing address (living in dorms) but I think black sabbath transcends such obstacles

My favorite band, although perhaps not exactly heavy metal, would have to be Seether. Amazing vocals. Fine Again is one of my favorite songs.

I also love Disturbed, very good band. Sometimes its difficult to understand what they are saying, but not so much in the album Indestructible.
