Metalheads United ;D

dude you're right oh my god

I usually don't like bands that sound like that because bands that have that heavy thrash sound (meshuggah-esque), I hate their vocals, but no vocals at all are GREAT

man I'm getting kind of tired of not having black sabbath's first, fifth, or sixth albums... I have been looking in local stores for them but... uh fuck that. I am currently on amazon buying them. I don't even have a real mailing address (living in dorms) but I think black sabbath transcends such obstacles

actually you're pretty lucky, i live in Indonesia where local stores sell nothing

edit: anyone have heard moonblood?

Same here, our local music stores only sell rap and pop mostly and you have to look very good will you find something decent and related to rock.

I'll have to take the bus to the next big city ( Amsterdam ) for a megastore that sells plenty of good stuff.

I get most of my music locally, but it's not perfect because similar to Ravelle, you have to look hard to find a decent music store. I have found albums by Sleep and Electric Wizard, Megadeth and Metallica, Pantera and White Zombie, and Cannibal Corpse is always easy to find (but they suck), but if you're looking for stuff a bit more obscure (the Atomic Bitchwax, Saint Vitus, Orange Goblin, Alabama Thunderpussy) you have to just get the internet. Hell, I even have a hard time finding Motorhead =[

It's like they are forcing us to piracy right?

lol it's even worst when you have to get through the plastic on the CD, then break the seal. It's frustrating. I buy CDs though because I love hand helds. To the other person in this topic I agree It is hard to find Motorhead these days in stores like Best Buy.

Luckily i have found a really small store that sells metal/rock stuff (mostly prog), and probably that is the only ones that sells stuff like that in town.

but usually they only sell 1 or 2 cd for one band, so it's hard to find discographies

I missed a Samael / Moonspell show on Halloween :(

Sadness :(

also yay for a proper metal thread on smogon :)
i saw Samael when my favorite band ever was touring with them (Virgin Black), and i wasn't too impressed. =/

yeah man, it's insane.

there's actually a lot of instrumental bands doing this sort of thing right now.

most notable, other than Cloudkicker, is Animals as Leaders from northern Va. kickass.
My favorite band, although perhaps not exactly heavy metal, would have to be Seether. Amazing vocals. Fine Again is one of my favorite songs.

I also love Disturbed, very good band. Sometimes its difficult to understand what they are saying, but not so much in the album Indestructible.
not metal. xP

worship him is respectable black metal with a hint of doom. i've heard parts of samael's recent albums, and they are pretty bad now. "industrial black metal" is a joke.

I like some of their stuff, one of my friends practically worships them lol

I still wanted to go because we get no decent shows in So Cal

I also missed Obituary last month

Which ones? Above, the last one, featured a return to their old BM style.

And I too, have seen Samael, at a festival. I spent their set making out with my new gf though :P

(well she still is :))

haven't heard above -- it has a terrible rating on rym and from experience, metal bands a decade past their prime won't release anything worthwhile anyway (with the exception of beherit). i've hard parts of solar soul and reign of light.

i cant wait til lend of november as i got tickets to a taste of chaos tour (In flames and killswitch engage) then 2 nights after that i got a ticket for Shadows fall and 5 Finger death punch(who are possibly my fave band atm)

yeah when I told my friends about cloudkicker I described them as a mix between Animals as Leaders and Meshuggah

i didn't know that guy was from nova though WORD
does he play shows around here?

It's not that good, no, but I never go by what RYM says...

Also I like their groovier electronicadildo style more than their earlier stuff...fuck most BM.

they are popular for the same reason melodeath and metalcore are popular -- at their core, they are poppy and accessible. most people who listen to them do so because they like heavy guitars and can't tell the difference between faux-aggressive crap and real aggression.

Since we are speaking of Cannibal Corpse, I was wondering what albums would you recommend someone to get into Death Metal? So far I've heard up to Deicide and Nile, Deicide's self-titled and Nile's Annihilation of the Wicked.

atheist - unquestionable presence
massacra - final holocaust
the chasm - deathcult for eternity: the triumph
at the gates - the red in the sky is ours
gorguts - obscura

atheist is excellent technical death metal, like cynic and death but amazing instead of shitty. massacra is energetic slayer-influenced death/thrash. the chasm is mystic, narrative death metal. at the gates is bizarre for being poetic among the masses of swedish dm bands. obscura is 60 minutes of crushing technical death metal, and is the least accessible release i listed.

Black Sabbath?

I mean you don't have to write a song called 'metal gods' to be the top metal band of your day, especially since Judas Priest weren't really that well known until like 1979

That wasn't the reason that they were considered the metal gods-it was because they were the first to populaize metal.
Metallica might be considered the metal gods of today.

maybe Obituary - The End Complete/Slowly We Rot
Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness/Blessed Are The Sick/Covenant

or any of Death's albums... wow so many ways to start death metal, and don't forget teutonic thrash!

I prefer Symbolic. The album cover was the avatar before my current one, actually.

Necrophobic is also a pretty good death metal band. Darkside is a fun album.
