I'm sorry, I can't think of a clever title (Uber RMT)

Last week I decided to venture out of OU and try a new tier. All the Ubers Warstories I've read were basically offense vs offense, with everyone bashing the hell out of each other, and it seemed like fun, so I gave it a try. This is my first Ubers team, and it has had decent success thus far, but I'm hoping it can be better. Without further ado, my team;

151.png

Mew @ Lum Berry
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP/184 Atk/36 Def/36 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
- Explosion
- U-turn

Straight from the analysis, I chose lead Mew. Mew was my first legendary back in my Red version, so it holds a special place in my heart, so I basically said "screw you, Deoxys" when picking a lead. Every battle so far Mew has managed to get stealth rocks up, and almost every time has also managed to U-Turn away to start me off with some momentum. I'll come back in later to use Mew as either death fodder for a free switch or to explode on something nasty. Either way, Mew gets done what I need, but I have considered putting some EVs into speed to outpace some other leads, but I don't know how many I might need.

Shaymin-s @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Seed Flare
- Air Slash
- Leech Seed
- Substitute

Shaymin-s is my answer to most Groudon, especially Rock-Polish versions. It's pretty easy to make Groudon use earthquake, giving Shaymin-s a free switch. I went with the sub-leech version so that it could act as a check to most set-up sweepers, since it can easily outpace so many. Shaymin-s is also pretty much my only way of dealing with Kyogre, although switching it in can be tough.

504.png

Giratina-o @ Platinum Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 Atk/116 Spd/146 SAtk
Lonely nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Dragon Claw
- Shadow Ball
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Fire]
The entry hazards I manage to set up help way too much to let some Foretress spin them away, so I chose Giratina-o to deal with it. The mixed attacker set lets me target the often-forgotten physical defense of so many Ubers, hurting a lot with either Dragon Claw or Earthquake. Shadow Ball is to deal with Lugia and other psychics, and HP fire is practically mandatory on all Giratina-os to deal with Foretress. With Levitate, Giratina-o can switch in to the ever-present Earthquake, which is always a problem on my teams, so the trade-off of EQ immunity seemed worth the lack of recovery.

384.png

Rayquaza @ Life Orb
Ability: Air Lock
EVs: 40 Atk/216 Spd/252 SAtk
Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Extremespeed
- Outrage
Mixquaza may have some trouble coming in, but once it does he works wonders. Most Rayquaza are countered by Lugia and Groudon, so this guy works to get rid of them with massive Draco Meteors. Even with just 40 Atk EVs, I can 2HKO Kyogre with Outrage, and Fire Blast is for steel types that love switching in to dragon attacks. Rayquaza's main job is to act as a lure, to allow Dialga an easier time switching in to set up and sweep by eliminating its biggest counters, Lugia and Groudon.

483.png

Dialga @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/4 Atk/252 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Outrage
Bulk-Up Dialga was the first pokemon I chose for the team. After reading all the analyses (I think that's the plural for "analysis") I realized a lot of pokes in Ubers rely on Special Defense, so I wanted something that would hit hard on the physical side. The rest-talk combo lets me use outrage without locking myself into the move, which is a huge plus. Dialga is my late-game sweeper, although I admittedly haven't had much luck setting up most matches. His resistances and defenses usually let me get him in early to see how my opponent plans to counter him, and then switch out to something else resistant and work on removing that counter until nothing can stand in his way.

205.png

Forretress (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP/4 Atk/252 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Rapid Spin
- Payback
- Toxic Spikes
- Spikes
With my team relying on Rayquaza to remove key pokemon, I can't afford to have SR draining its health every time I switch it in, so I needed Foretress to spin them away. Payback is obvious, to deal with Giratina. With so many resisted dragon attacks to switch into, getting at least one layer of TS or spikes is easy. I try to get Foretress in early for a layer of TS, and its helped tremendously, notably against Wobbuffet and Kyogre, two pokemon who can give any team trouble.

So that's my team. The premise is simple: hit hard with whatever I can, while aiming to allow B.U. Dialga to set up and sweep. It's my first Ubers team, so I expect I'll have to work on it a fair amount before I can call it a good Ubers team, and any help is appreciated.

I hope you enjoy Ubers. Now on to the rate.

Err, you have a gaping weakness to DDRay and SDRay alike. Forretress is complete setup fodder for both of them, and they proceed to sweep your team, fearing only Extremespeed from your own Ray, and that fails to kill. Also, if you fail to put up Toxic Spikes, Rock Polish Groudon manages to sweep you, and you'll find yourself praying for a Stone Edge miss. Unless they use Fire Punch and Dragon Claw, which is the bane of this team.

The best way to deal with these guys on an offensive team is simply to stop them from setting up. Replace Forretress with anything. Personally, I would try this tankish Kyogre set. It effectively counters RPDon, and isn't setup fodder for Rayquaza.

Kyogre @ Leftovers
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 240 HP/244 Def/24 Spe
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Surf
- Ice Beam
---

This should solve your most pressing problems. I can't give you an exhaustive, complete rate since I don't consider myself experienced enough, but your team looks fine except for that point. Therefore, one of your Ubers experts may be able to tell you more. In Ubers, its hard to do something extremely wrong in regards to team design.

Shaymin-s has yet to fall to any Groudon, and like I said, he even handles the RP sets. But I'll give Kyogre a try when I get the chance, and I'll update the post after I have a few battles with it. Anything else I need to look out for?

How does your Shaymin handle RP Groudon if it has Leftovers? You need a Choice Scarf in order to handle RPDon after a Rock Polish, and Groudon can setup a Rock Polish on Forry, or even Dialga (predicting a switch) without much risk to itself.

But other than that, there's not much to worry about. Lugia, and to a lesser extent Groudon, are your nemeses, but MixRay can handle them, so that's cool.

You know, come to think of it I don't think I have faced a RPDon yet, so maybe that's why Shaymin hasn't fallen flat on his face trying to deal with one. Anyway, thanks for the help, and again, I'll update this thread after I can try out Kyogre.

SubSeed Shaymin cannot outpace Rock Polish Groudon, and will get OHKO'd by Stone Edge or Fire Punch. Since most players will be your level when you fight, Mew will get SR up. Most players, however, will be using Groudon, Deoxys-S and Darkrai, as well as Scizor as their leads. All of these will be able to kill/Taunt/sleep Mew, respectively, although the Darkrai you could Taunt and most are Scarfed, etc. Besides the fact that most people don't use Mew as their Lead, you won't get too much unpredictability or survivability. I definitely recommend you go with one of the leads I mentioned that will beat Mew, as there are good reasons why they are the most popular.

Do not replace Forretress, as it is a staple, and unless your team is all Steel or Levitating, your team is getting hit by entry hazards from the opponent Forretress. Instead, use the Kyogre set below in place of Dialga, or use a Specs Dialga or Scarf Dialga/Palkia.

Your Giratina should be the SubCM version, and with some more HP and a neutral nature to Defense, as enemy Forretress who use Payback will do a number on you.

With the removal of Dialga, you no longer draw Groudon's attacks for Shaymin, so depending on which Pokemon you pick, I think if you use RestTalk Kyogre, use a Scarf Garchomp or a Lead Groudon. Scizor finds a good place over Shaymin.

Finally, LO Mixed Rayquaza doesn't fit on a team lacking a Wish Passer, Lucario, etc. Dialga and Palkia can both run much more uncheckable Mixed sets, have better resistances and defenses, and aren't weak to Stealth Rock.

Sorry for tearing your team apart, but after you rank up enough, you gotta give up the gimmick and start using what works, because the 21 usable (Manaphy is now OU and Wynaut sucks) Ubers only let you do so much, and there are only a handful of Pokemon that will work in Uber play in the lower tiers. I rate your team 5/10, as it's a bit inexperienced, fragile, and weak to Wobbuffet (kidding, every team hates Wobbuffet one way or another without CB Tyranitar).

Yep, you have a Rayquaza weakness (A pretty big one). A great counter to both DDRay and SDRay is ScarfJirachi.

---
Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Ice Punch
- Body Slam
- U-turn
- Trick
---

Ice Punch is there for the obvious kill as it outspeeds both DDRay (After one Dragon Dance) and SDRay (It resists Extremespeed). Body Slam is to get a paralysis on something (You can replace it with Thunder if you like, but you'll have to alter the EVs). U-Turn is there for you to predict the Wobb switch-in (Very common with Ray), and Trick is just Trick. Have fun!!

Ok, so I'm gonna do some more testing, although it will basically be a new team. I'm gonna keep Shaymin-s and Foretress, though. I'll make the changes suggested: Tankish Kyogre for Dialga, Scarfrachi for Mizquaza, CMsub Giratina for Giratina-o, and Darkrai for Mew. I don't think I'll bother updating the thread if it goes well, so I'll take the time now to thank shrang, mtr and DarkCyberElf for your help, this is exactly what I needed.

I wouldn't be too quick to get rid of your lead mew... I find that Ubers leads are kinda selfish, they are almost all focused on setting up their own hazards, the only ones who don't fit this catagory are kyogre, darkrai, and the rare bulk-up diagla lead. Deoxys will taunt the first turn, meaning that you hit him hard with a uturn breaking his sash, then switch to a scarfer before he can get up hazards... darkrai you taunt and get free rocks, kyogre you can ohko with explosion before he can hit you, groudon you sneak to shaymin while he puts up rocks (that you spin away later)...

In general I'm saying that mew is a great lead, with little weakness to the common Ubers leads. I have seen leadmew, and even BP mew as a lead start off very strongly for a team

Also, I generally bow to cyberdarkelf's RMT genius (seriously I see that guy find helpful changes on every team that goes up) but I don't think you'll need to worry about payback on gira if you are running a move to ohko forretress. I don't run either pokemon so I'd like others' opinions on this.

The team looks solid, although there are a couple ofthings that might be problematic.

it seems like you have one sweeper, with multiple support roles. That's absolutely fine, but i do think that you could appreciate at least one other backup sweeper. There are a lot of options for this, but i think a late-game cleaner would be most appropriate- something that can come in as the last pokemon and have one last stab at a win. If it weren't for giratina O's hidden power fire, kyogre would be a perfect choice. As it is, i'll post the set anyway, and see what you think.

Kyogre @ Choice Scarf
Timid
252 Sp. Atk/ 252 Spd/ 4 HP
Water Spout/ Surf/ Ice Beam/ Thunder

Anyway, while it is a great revenge killer, i've found that scarf kyogre works wonders late game, where everything is weakened and can be picked off easily by surf or water spout. I also think, considering groudon's position as the lead BU dialga counter, that this will not only help late-game but will also deter groudon from coming out hte minute they see your dialga.
