New Background/site colours

If you look at over similar Pokemon forums, they are a lot more appealing and eyecatching due to their splendid use of colour. Maybe Smogon could follow this example, as the mainly white background is very plain. I know the saying is, don't judge a book by it's cover, and this is proven in that Smogon is an excellent site, but, it would be nice to have a more interesting design/colour scheme, as the cover of this particular book does look a little, unfinished.

To be honest with you, how appealing something is is based on a person's aesthetics. You can't please everyone's different tastes and white seem to be the most plain color and easiest to use.

True, but I think most would agree it needs at least some colour. Just to liven it up a bit. I'm not suggesting radical stuff, maybe one of the more neutral skin colour schemes?

To me, this sight looks very nice. Its very simple, and nothing to vibrant or so darkthats hurts the eyes after looking at it for too long like Serebii.

No offense but when sites use a ton of colors it hurts my eyes. I come here for content, not for pretty colors.

I agree with both of these, Serebii is too extreme, im suggesting something subtle. Like a shade of a colour or something, not anything radical, just a bit of colour. I agree content takes presidence over content.

Uh ... what?

Anyway, the only way I would support this is if there are different "skins" available, so one of them could be this default one, another could have another set of colours, etc. It might not please everyone but it's as close as one could get.

I don't understand why you guys are saying Serebii hurts your eyes :/ There are like 30 skins to choose from.

I think skins would be a plausible idea but definitely at the bottom of the list of things to do. I'd rather see more content than prettier colors.

I actually really like Smogon visually, it's not quite minimalist, but has a very straightforward design that makes it easy to use and look at for a long time. Maybe a few things could be tweaked, but I don't think major changes are a good idea. Having optional skins from a list at the bottom of the page could work, but very few people tend to use those so it's not a high priority.

I'm strongly against changing the look. Let's consider some of the other sites.

Serebii: Makes my eyes bleed, god no.
Marriland: Site colours are pretty similar to Smogon's. Forum is the phpbb default, nothing wrong with that except you see it everywhere.
Bulbapedia: Looks like Wikipedia - and quite right too! But I don't think Smogon should look like that.
LegendaryPokemon: Again, site colours are not too dissimilar to Smogon's. Forums are fine but nothing special.
Metalkid: Sickly brownish-green. I don't think we want to copy it.
Pokemon.com (the official site): Primary-coloured and flash-laden.

For the forums sure. But for the site, without having to be logged in? First impressions count, and if I'm going to have to change the skin to something usable everything I go somewhere, well then I'll go somewhere else.

Why not have the skins so traditionalists can keep the current layout, this layout would be the default as well but then provide the option for users to choose the skin they use?
Oh and sorry that my previous post didn't make sense.

The reason is there are so many things that are Higher on the priority list, including suspect tests, shoddy battle, and the Smogon Competitive Pokedex. This is not something necessary and since we are by nature competitive, most people would rather more content be produced than to do this.

It doesn't really bother me if this site has a skin or not. I actually like this default one. It's easy like people said, and it actually makes my eyes want to see more on the forums rather than burning. It's easy :).

Why don't we just have multiple layouts like serebii? I'm sure someone would be willing to design them, and everyone would be happy.
