How many actual new pokemon came out with DPP?

I don't think we'll get more than 30-50 new ones; it's going to be hard to come up with something new that doesn't duplicate something they had already. It's pretty much going to be:

- Standard bird
- Standard rodent
- Legendaries
- Pseudolegendary
- New evolutions of old pokemon.
- A few new standalones.

Ya forgot fast-evolving, readily-available Bug type(s). :toast:

On the subject of the Dragon-type, I think I'm with Zarator on this one, as well as something I remember someone else saying before-- the Dragon-type is wholly intended to be powerful. Maybe it's too powerful, and they could definitely pull a Psychic and go out of their way to make it less so, but I don't think they will, personally.

Also, there will be fossils once again.
Mmm, ah there will definitely be a fairy type of pokemon (mew, celebi, manaphy, the 3 elves, etc). LOL, I'd still like to see what nintendo throws at us :D

AH, yes.
I've mentioned this before but I don't think they will try to balance out the dragon type. I believe the dragon type was meant to be overpowering, at least to a certain degree, by the creators. I don't mind this actually.

Can't wait what the 3 legends trios will be, will they be useful as Zapdos and azelf, i hope so. Also their typings interest me,what sort it'll be :P

About the dragon types, sucks if they don't change it, I for one'd like to see new types introduced, although they haven't for the past 2 gens, they might change their mind and enlighten us with new types to bring some fressness, slim chances =/

Nintendo could make some changes on the attacks/types... like Ice resisting dragon(makes Dragon attacks less broken, and Ice pokes sucks less defensively) and Poison hitting steel for SE(again, it makes Poison attacks a lot less sucky, and Steel less annoying).

Those small changes would be appreciated IMO, balancing out things a little.

Yeah, I wish we can get them in OU.
UBERs is fun but it's not as great as OU (or UU to a lesser extent).
I would also like to see a new type(s) but for now, I'd like to see 3D graphics (at least in the battles like PBR), OU-formidable legendaries, physics electric moves (powerful ones),...crap I forgot but I had more. Haha.

lol poison hitting steel? that's like fire being SE against Water or something. How can you poison steel? That's why it works that way. Pick any other type to be weak to Poison, Steel is the only one that makes zero sense.

Speculation about the names is meaningless. Claiming they'll be amethyst and opal is thrown a spanner by the fact that pokemontopaz.com is registered too. Nintendo probably have loads of pokemon{something} domains registered. And there'd be no stopping them calling the new games something like Pokemon Black (domain pokemonblack.com is currently not Nintendo's) either.

They do, but if they were going to name it that, they'd have had the domain seized by now under a copyright justification. Somehow I don't think they're going to name it something popularly associated with a hack.

haha 3D would be cool. New attacks is what i'm looking forward too, hopefully some stronger moves like physical electric you'v said. XD

If we think of poison as Acid, that makes more sense.
If that's not possible, then Nintendo should make a good STAB Poison that can hit through steels.

Or they could make Poison become SE against one of the types that actually have only a few weaknesses, like Normal, Electric, or Dragon.

Steel has three very common weaknesses and is neutral to Water/Electric, also very common. Plus it sucks as an offensive type. Steel isn't broken, Dragon is. They need to give more attention to Grass and Ice, as far as weaknesses go, not Steel.

Ice needs to have it's Rock and Steel Weakness removed ASAP. I think it's a tad ridiculous that Ice is weak to so many types.

If Dragon were to get nerfed, I'd only make more types resist dragon such as Ice (mentioned before) and possible rock.

Eh...yeah i'd just hope electivire can strengthen up with a strong stab physical move but that may be...asking too much for a single pokemon. Hmmm...yeah new moves would be sweet!

But steel also resists 13 types... that's a lot.

Defensively, it's the closest of broken. Steel itself isn't broken because it really sucks offensively, while Dragon is one of the best types for both offense and defense. Especially when Nintendo gaves them high powered STAB moves that no one bar steel types resists...

Grass has the second best list of resists IMO ... but i agree Nintendo gave them 654684648 weaknesses and it's attacks are resisted by another 541654651 types, making it unbalanced.
The only thing Nintendo gave to grass types this generation were the most diverse and best STABs out of all the types, with 2 usable physical 120 BP moves, a 140 BP special move, a 90 BP physical move with high CH rate(when high CH moves are basically all 70 BP) and the best exclusive attack with Seed Flare. Not to say the standard 80 STAB moves on both sides.
But that wasn't enough... at least for me.

While Ice attacks are good, but defensive Ice is just awful. It only needs to resist Dragon, and that makes Ice types way more useful.

Normal and Electric doesn't need changes. Normal "resists" nothing but ghost attacks, so it's unfair for them to have another weakness. And Electric... i think that's why Gamefreak gave Arena Trap only to ground pokes...

Baseless speculation:

Skarmory evolution. That thing never did learn Hyper Beam/Giga Impact. Look for Skarmory to be banned from LC immediately.

Kangaskhan prevo for more cute throwaway pokemon. Kangaskhan now to dominate with Encore, Sweet Kiss, Charm, and Sing.

Hopefully we'll get somewhat unique types on the Fossils. Cradily and Armaldo weren't the greatest competitively, but they provided something new and different. Hopefully we'll get something like Rock/Dark and Rock/Poison.

How much more will the new Normal/Flying bird fail compared to Staraptor? Will Fearow finally has something it outclasses? A ton and probably not, are my guesses.

Maybe the new Bugs will get lucky like Butterfree with Powders. And no crippling 4x weakness to SR... Dustox would have been great with Sleep Powder, now it's largely a bad Venomoth.

Decent physical Electric, Ice, and Fire moves for non-humanoid Pokemon, please. Preferably Leaf Blade clones with Claws.

Impossible:

Give Poison a Dragon resistance. With love from Weezing, Tentacruel, Gengar, and Crobat.

Late to the party, but after reading the articles, they're talking about releasing a lot of new pokemon and a new territory, so yeah-- welcome generation 5 for 2010. Wow, that was fast! O.o

@Psychics-- I would like to see something adjusted here. Considering how absolutely dominating Psychics were in the first gen, it's sad to have seen them fall so far. I mean, just the release of 2 resistant types (steel/dark) and giving ghosts/bugs STAB moves means psychic suddenly just becomes crap overall?

More than anything, it'd be nice to see more holes filled in the physical/special spreads. Give us some physical moves that ouclass fire/thunder/ice punch please. Also, a special rock attack would be nice . . .

Also would like to see some obvious adjustments to current pokemon. Technician Weavile, Drain Punch Hitmontop, Brave Bird Aero, etc. It's somewhat annoying to me that Nintendo makes pokemon like Technician Scizor or Rock Head Aggron, but then leaves something out just to "make the fans happy" later on with presents.

Also, to continue with Pokemon's "African Savanah" continuation, we now have a Giraffe, an Elephant, a Hippo, and a Rhino. Maybe we'll get like Wildebeast or Warthog or something. :P

Going by the previous generations, I'm thinking that the Pseudo-legendary will either be ridiculously powerful (they seem to get better each gen) or something that adds new elements to the game. Hopefully they choose to go down the Tyranitar path and eschew the obvious steel or dragon oriented pokemon while vying for something a bit less trodded on. I, for one, would personally like to see another automated effect for an ability.

Generation V ... how the hell are they gonna top catching God in a pokeball?

that's a thing.
they don't have to.
in an interview (shit i forgot but i was reading some articles in korean when the creators came to korea) they said they dont have to top it off.
it will be actually impossible to be more powerful than things like arceus or palkia and dialga alone (esp, they are the first ones), but they can most definitely make things that created the other region (for that one gen), if they do decide to make a god-like pokemon again. i'd really like something similar (in terms of powers) with the gsc legendaries. well, whatever tehy do, it'll still be awesome (at least for me :)).

I don't expect nintendo to know much - if at all - about pokemon games hacking community.

Also, Pokemonopal.com and Pokemonamethyst.com has been registered by Nintendo of America. It still doesn't mean a lot, but there's no reason to buy domains if you're not going to use them in some way (altrough Nintendo did bought pokemonwhite or pokemonblack or something among those lines at some point).

On completely unrelated note, special version of Dragon Dance would be really interesting to see, especially on something that can beat Blissey one on one.

mmm i feel like that would just a HUGE boost to the already powerful dragons
but i can see it happen as personally i believe dragon type was made simply to be a powerful type.
