Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

Sorry to sound.. newbish
I have done some rng projects in the past but I am forgetting how to find my frame
I know I have to find the iv's of my egg.. but I forget where to enter them.
Thanks!

Hello, I'm brand new to RNGing and I've spent a lot of time on these guides (Boy, that was some hard material to absorb xD).

I know that there really isn't a complete, written guide to RNG in HGSS, but, I need help with my Soul Silver game. My general question is:

How do I know when to start advancing the RNG?

I've read about calibration to a certain degree, but there are all of these seeds and targets I need to know about. I've downloaded and read about seed verifier... I also have RNGReporter.

If anyone can answer that question in general, that would be great. Ahh, my head.

I got some message about winrar not being free or something when I downloaded version 8.10 of the RNG reporter. Do I need to worry about this at all?

No, happens to me all the time. It will say that but it won't effect you in any way.

By the way, I fixed my rng problem :)

...What exactly is it you want to do? Have you calibrated yet, as in do you have an average delay and time that you regularly hit? BTW I know what you mean, it's tough incorporating the general RNG guide with the HGSS-specific stuff.

I would uninstall winrar. All versions of windows capable of running RNG Reporter have built in ZIP support anyway.

Hmm I'll go recalibrate, hold on.

Ok, I'm still trying to work through how to get a shiny egg in HG/SS and the steps are still not clear enough because I'm not succeeding. Earlier, Kiddu nicely laid out the following steps for me (copied in red). Please continue reading after the red print, because my question is below:

A. If you have any roamers out, either note down which Routes they are on before saving, or defeat/catch them.

B. Download and open the latest RNG Reporter (8.10)

C. Read and understand the third post of this thread

D. Open Seed to Time in RNG Reporter just as you would with DPPt

E. Select the HGSS option

F. Once your seed is entered (and the Roamer locations you noted down, if any), click "Generate"

G. Select (meaning click on) your target time

H. Click the second "Generate" just as you would with DPPt

I. Read and understand the third post of this thread

J. Click "Search Elm" and enter your responses

Done.

My problem is this: what exactly are you doing before step A? Are saving in a patch of grass so you can catch a seed? Are you pressing Seed Finder on RNG Reporter to calculate your seed before you get to Seed to Time in part A? OR are you saving in front of the daycare lady and then running out to catch a seed after you restart the game at the top of a minute? OR are you doing something else entirely and using some different part of RNG Reporter before you get to Seed to Time.

D. Open Seed to Time in RNG Reporter just as you would with DPPt I have never opened it for DPPT, so there is no 'just as I would' in my case.

Please note that I am new to RNG but I have hatched shinies and I have successfully produced pokemons with IV spreads of my choice on Diamond and Platinum. However I have never needed to use Seed to Time, which Kiddu mentions in part D. Therefore I don't know what the rest of you are doing before you use Seed to Time or even if you do anything before Seed to Time. I don't know all the details or tricks someone expert in RNG thinks is obvious. I'd really appreciate it if someone who is successful with getting a shiny egg in HG/SS would give me their exact first steps before getting to the Seed to Time section.

Okay I get an average delay of around 483-493 and an average time of about 13-15 seconds.

I'm trying to RNG for a Shiny Kanto Starter. Getting there... can anybody help?

EDIT***
How do you find a target initial seed?

Hmm do you mean picking up a Kanto Starter from Oak? Or breeding for one? Cos I only know how to get shiny eggs.
All I do to find a target seed is open up the Time Finder, plug in the numbers and ability etc., and choose the one I want. Then I start SR-ing.

Yep... I'm trying to pick one up. Or... I can get a female starter and start breeding for a shiny. I think that's easier. Can you teach me how?

J. Click "Search Elm" and enter your responses

This tells you what seed you hit, saving you the trouble of having to catch a Pokemon to check your seed. As long as your seed was within the tolerances you specified with the +/- bits next to the 2nd "generate" button, the seed you hit will be highlighted. If it's your seed, great, otherwise soft reset.

Are you saying that the box with seed hex is left blank and all I do is enter the locations of Entei, Raikou and Latias? I'm sorry, but I've never used Seed to Time for anything and I wish there was a more detailed FAQ just for that part of RNG. I've nothing to relate this to with regards to RNG on Diamond and Platinum. What seed? I think this is what I am asking, where are you generating this seed from in the first place for that seed box on Seed to Time?

That's what I'm asking here, what target seed? Where do I get that? What steps do I need to do before I open Seed to Time? I have never used Seed to Time before. What do I need to do beforehand?

Edit: Please understand that I have never used Seed to Time for RNG on Diamond and Platinum. I need the steps that must be done beforehand or I can't use that function of RNG Reporter properly.

The shiny egg hatching process is different to the one you used in DPPt, as far as I know. I'm no RNG pro, but I can breed shinies in HGSS. I'll tell you what I did:

1. Open up time finder, click the Shiny Egg tab. Check 'HGSS Shiny Egg'
2. Enter all the details, including a seconds value and delay range you are confident you can hit regularly.
3. The date actually isn't important (unless you care about your shiny being hatched at some stupid date)
4. If no results come up when you press generate, try changing the date until something good comes up. Something 'good' is one with a frame as low as possible. This way you won't have to go through eggs and risk missing one (I won't go into details).
5. When you find a good seed, right-click it and select 'Generate More Times...'
6. On the screen that comes up, make sure it has the correct date and seconds, and check 'HGSS'. Find your seed on the list, and highlight/click on it. Click the generate button located on the middle right.
7. Now you should have a bunch of adjacent values as well as your desired seed.
8. Start the button-mashing sequence on your game. To see if you hit your target seed, immediately load up pokegear after pressing continue. Call Elm 9 times, note his replies, press 'Search Elm' in the middle, and enter what you got.
9. The RNG Reporter should now find the seed you hit. If nothing comes up, then you're either too far off your target or entered Elm's replies wrong.
10. Repeat step 8 until you hit your target seed.
11. When you succeed, you can now put your parents in the daycare and start collecting eggs.
12. There is no coinflip app in HGSS, so you have to go through each egg one by one (as the guide says). That is why you want an egg on the first frame, so the first egg you pick up will be shiny.
13. When you reach the frame of the shiny egg, save before collecting it if you want to SR for IV's.

I hope this helped.

P.S. I don't have any roamers roaming about on my game. So I've never had to enter their locations. Otherwise it should be the same process for you.

This really isn't going to work.

Wait until there is a guide.

Here is the diamond guide, anyway.

It literally has the answers to 99% of the questions you have asked.

http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64925

The rest involves doing weird shit like checking the box that says "HGSS" on the time finder and seed to time screens and using elm calls where it references coin flips.

OMG, thank you so much! This is closer to what I do on Platinum and has nothing to do with Seed to Time. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I shall now not go insane trying to figure this out.

TBH i just summarized all the stuff from that guide. It was very useful to me when I was learning to breed for shiny eggs. Mingot you're right, the only difference is checking 'HGSS' and using Elm calls, but still it would be nice if there were a sole guide dedicated to HGSS RNG.

It would also be nice if noobs weren't pointed at the Seed to Time function and expected to understand all the steps to use beforehand when there's nothing clear in the guides about this function with regards to getting a shiny egg. I've used Time Finder before. But when I asked for more details about getting a shiny in HG, I got pointed at Seed to Time.

I have yet to know where the experienced RNGers are getting the seed that they place in the first box of the Seed to Time window. I haven't found anything in any FAQ that helps me with this.

But thank you again, EXIE, I can ignore it for now. :-)

From the spreadsheets under How to Capture Perfect Pokémon, for instance.

Well, it sure did help me! Thanks. I'll post back if I get my shiny!

Okay so I'm having a bit of trouble at the moment; I've been trying to RNG the togepi egg given to you in SS, and I'm getting weird results. This is what I'm shooting for:

Seed: 7b0448d1
Frame: 1
Nature: Modest
IVs: 31 / 31 / 31 / 31 / 31 / 31
Ability: 1 (serene grace)
PID:685011a9

Now obviously I'm shooting in the dark here since at this point in the game I don't have the roamers released/all the elm call versions yet, but I've found some ways around that.

I took a stab at hitting the seed without changing the delay(via emloop); essentially calibrating for my game's delay time. I got a value of 18460, or 171 frames of game loading time. So I added that to the delay on emloop, and did another reset. That's where the trouble popped up.

Somehow I had managed to land on seed 7ddf7cc8, and got the first frame in method 1, just like predicted. The problem is that RNG Reporter (I have version 8.1) calls 7ddf7cc8 and invalid seed when I try to put it into time finder to find out the delay I hit. I did a few more resets, each time landing closer to my target seed, but it just happened again. Time finder can't find the spread for frame 1 method 1 of seed 7ddf7cc8 either.

I don't know what's causing this, but I found it really weird that I would be getting invalid seeds while resetting >_?

If anyone could help clarify what's going on here, that would be much appreciated, thanks.
