Final Grades/GPA thread/School/University Discussion

After missing first semester in Europe I decided to take 4 AP tests.

US History -cakewalk, but then again I'm a history guy. Shooting for 5.

Physics Mechanics -ran out of time because I'm not used to doing problems yet. And the first lab of the year (while I was missing) turned out to be almost exactly the first free response. Figures. I'll guess 3 or 4, I don't think it'll go lower or higher.

Chemistry -surprised myself at how much I knew. Again, the first lab of the year was on the test, but I was more prepared for this because of my chem teacher from last year. Screwed up question 4. I don't think it'll go lower than a 3, though I don't see it higher than that either.

Calculus BC -after a grand total of 1 semester of classroom instruction I decided to take the Calculus BC exam. Let's just say the Taylor polynomial free response raped me. Otherwise I think I did well, but I'm so wishy-washy on the stuff that I really don't know. Depending on how much partial credit I get for writing the right thing but getting the wrong thing, it could go from a 2 to a 4. Worried about this one.

jsadkfjasdklfjsklffasdfea AP econ can suck my dick there is no reason a test should take 6 hours (micro + macro). I went into the testing room at 8:30 am, test until ~noon, hour break, back at 1, test until ~4. I got my ass kicked on both especially macro even though they were really easy because I wasn't prepared. At least no more AP tests ever again ever for me.

Well I currently found out that my grades for high school are

Geometry - 75
English - 83
Biology - 86
French - 63 =]
Western Civilization - 90

(for the record, I am Canadian)

My marks @ midterm for semester 2 were pretty good, I'm very pleased with how easy Calculus & Vectors is, especially compared to Adv. Functions D: Which I sadly had to retake as a night credit. fml

Adv. Functions: 88
Marks are pretty bloated in night school, and I've already done the course before so a lot of it is easy-peasy (even though my final last semester was 68...)
Biology: 91
My bestie~
Calculus & Vectors: 86
I'm so pleased that this class is easy (Well, for me). I've never done that well in a math course before! Love Calculus...
Earth & Space Sciences: 79
Rocks are boring. Geology is boring. My mark would be higher if I could pay attention in class / my teacher taught something that made sense (He vaguely talks about something and then talks about something not related at all and we are given 0 notes and I can't write anything down cause he doesn't make sense). I'm hoping to just step it up and ace the last few tests and do amazing on my summative project... Shooting for mid80ish.
Physics: 60
I. HATE. PHYSICS. Worst class ever, my teacher doesn't teach shit and then blames the whole class for flopping on the tests. Uhh, hello there buddy... I did all the hmwrk + review, too bad nothing makes sense. Seriously, he teaches by vaguely mentioning some theory and then giving us a formula 'k go ahead'. Ugghhhh. What sucks even more is that NOBODY ELSE DOES WORK. They just fuck around and my teacher doesn't care. I can't concentrate when there are people yelling and throwing shit. :kongler: I hate unstructured classes.

I've been accepted to university already though :D So happy~ Got accepted into an honours science program, still waiting for another university to accept me... I applied for a Life Sciences program, which is a prerequisite to apply for an honours psychology & neuroscience program in 2nd year. I'd love to do this program. If not I'll be happy to go to the honours science program at the other school cause it's closer and still a good program. Would be majoring in psychology, I might pick a minor if possible I dunno. >_>

uh, last year at I.U. I was a nursing major, but then I transferred to Ball State University and didn't know what I wanted to do; I was pretty angry, as well, because my AP Biology credit didn't transfer, and so I had to retake introductory Bio, which is my least favorite portion of that class. but, I switched to an ecology/wildlife biology major, so all's good.

Grades:
Semester I -
statistics and probability: A, 97%+
physiology: A-, 92%+
intro. Chem: A, 94%+
intro. Life Sciences: 96%+

Semester II -
Chem. I - A, 96%+
Bio. I - A, 94%+
Physics I - A(dunno' the percent .____.)
Art History - A, 95%+

I think the longest I've ever studied for a test is about an hour. .-.
I can never seem to focus in, and it actually kind of sucks.

Yes sir! Sent in my deposits and everything! Though my first semester is going to be hell, as I've chosen to do Bio-med engineering. Hello Chem and Bio in one semester!

Ah, that's what I was first year. I did fine in the classes, just found out I absolutely hated lab sciences (you're going to as well, two labs in one semester... ouch). Good luck, and good choice!

you got a 33% on your final and STILL finished with a B? that's incredible. anyways, straight As this semester (A- or higher) except for one B+. I also only got a single B last semester. woo-hoo!

my final average in that class after the final was a 70%. it's really not that surprising that a 70 was enough for a B though, as all of my non-humanities grades have been scaled after the semester was over. for example a 67 was equated to an A in my thermodynamics class last fall.

Oh man I only have grades for 3 of my 5 classes currently but let's see:

Digital Illustration: A
Illustration I: A
Poetry: Honors

(only academics have Honors at my school... disppointingly)

I can only hope I rocked Modern European History (YEAHHH WWI) and Conceptual Drawing as well.
p.s. lol art school

I am graduating with a 4.00 as the Valedictorian of my class next Friday and yesterday was my last day of high school. Sadly, I am not as happy as I thought I would be. In grades 9-11 I just wanted to get out of that place, but during the first half of my senior year I realized the dramatic changes that were to happen once I graduated.

I actually think I am going to miss high school. :(

I never thought I would ever miss high school.

Got my results from my first year of university, pretty pleased with them considering I never went to a single econ lecture and never did a single piece of calculus homework!

Business (full year): 82
Psychology (full year): 83
Calc I: 90
Calc II: 74
Compsci I: 97
Compsci II: 93
Micro Econ: 81
Macro Econ: 85

Overall Average: 85.00

for those interested im at the University of Western Ontario

Wishy, what schools are you looking at? I am always interested to hear about what canadians are doing

I just graduated last week, but my semester looked like this:

Plant Design: B
Intro to western drama: A
Unit Operations Lab 2: B
Particle Technology: A
Chemical Rxn Kinetics and Reactor Design: B
Engineering Ethics: B

Race and Ethnic Minorities - C
Anthropology - People of the World - B
Crime and Delinquency - B
Research Methods - B
Epic Poetry - B

I slacked off quite a bit this semester which kind of sucks, but it didn't drop my GPA that much. I was forced to take Epic Poetry as a Upper Division Humanities class and it was pretty boring.

Oh, I go to the University of Oklahoma.

Got few more exams coming up this week although for semester one for my yr1 of my mechanical engineering degree in Imperial college:

-Tech maths A+
-Applied engineering A+
-Thermal dynamics A
-Business applications B+ (Not too improtant)
-Computer science A+

I know I'm bad (h)

AP Chem was a bitch. I got a 3. The FRQs were a mindfuck. The multiple choice was easy though.

AP US was a joke. I didn't study once and thought it was easy.

Full IB next year woo party time. HL math/bio/english/euro with SL chinese and psych.

Anyway, my GPA is around 3.5-6 weighted. AP Chem really raped me.

You already got your AP scores for this year? I took Chem/Psych and am anxiously waiting for the scores, but I thought they didn't come until July :(

I took AP Chem, Stats, and French this past year. AP Chem was pretty easy for me, our teacher was very good and we covered all the necessary material with almost 3 weeks to spare to review. I took lots of practice AP tests from previous years and got very high 5s, so I imagine this test will be the same. Stats wasn't quite as easy, but I felt confident on most of the multiple choice, and most of the free response, so I'm hoping for a 5 on that as well. French, on the other hand, was really quite difficult. My teacher wasn't too great, and it seemed like the test was aimed for people with large backgrounds in speaking french. I read somewhere that only about 6% of non-native speakers get 5s, so that's a bit disheartening.

Jimbo, yes, AP scores don't come out until July. I think he was talking about a previous year (otherwise I have no idea).

What program are you enrolled in, Jackal?

western has a pretty general first year, im currently enrolled in the "Faculty of Science". Given my marks I qualified for my program, Honours Specialization in Computer Science.

However, I also got AEO (Advanced Entry Opportunity) status coming out of highschool for the Richard Ivey School of Business and I plan to pursue that in year three.

It is pretty much the most unorthodox path I could possibly take through university but at the end of 5 years I will come out with a degree from arguably the best business school in Canada and a BSc in CompSci from a pretty middle of the pack school I guess as far as Compsci goes, but I expect to graduate near the top of my class at least, so that should work in my favour.

I read in the other thread that you are headed to waterloo; good luck dude lol.

I got into Waterloo's Math/CA program (the one with the 90 average cutoff and that only 150 or so people get in to) and also the same program as you, but I decided on Western instead. I am not sure how that will effect me in the future but I couldn't have made a better choice for the present... all my friends at Waterloo have no social lives whatsover (if they want to succeed in school at least) and are drowning in homework. The first year CS language they use is Scheme which is dumb and they really lay it on with the calc and lin alg. I basically picked a worse cs/math program at western to actually have a social life (first year was a blast) and to be at the top of my class (i was second in cs) and to combine it with business to potentially be managing all the waterloo grads and have them do the work for me, if everything works out as I plan 8)

if you want to talk more about uni in canada konrad i would be more than happy to, the western vs waterloo decision ate at me for all of grade 12 and it was literally the defining decision in my life. I have a lot of friends in the program you are going into so im sure i could be helpful, let's take it to pm though.

After a long wait, my final grades are in!

Stars and Stellar Systems: A (Astronomy class - always a favorite of mine)
Database Design: B- (Not so much as SQL stuff but the theory behind how a DBMS actually works.)
Introduction to Human Computer Interaction: A (How to make user-friendly apps! Lots of group work).
Introduction to Creative Writing: B+
Studies in Mythmaking: B (No no, not your standard Greek Mythology class...we're taking Norse, Finnish, Mayan mythologies...even the Bible!)

GPA: 3.40. Cumulative GPA: 3.068

One more semester to go!

Everyone worrying about AP scores needs to just relax; there's not a thing that worrying will do now. You're done with studying, and you're done with the school year. Just relax and enjoy the summer!

I do miss some of the people I went to high school with, but the great thing is that you'll still get to see those people. Facebook and the Internet makes it incredibly easy to stay in contact with old friends, and you'll be meeting lots of new people and experiencing lots of new things in college. You'll be a bit nervous the summer before, but trust me, college is definitely fun (even one as stressful as Georgia Tech). You will enjoy yourself.
