Which is more important on a weavile for killing dragon types like garchomp. Icepunch or Ice Shard? Will one STAB Ice Shard usually do them in?

Something I have been wondering for some time, why and how where these introduced? A little backstory would be most heplful.

-Sleep Clause: No two Pokemon may be put to sleep at the same time.
-No OHKOs: Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill and Sheer Cold are all banned.
-No Evasion: Double Team and Minimize are banned.

I'm guessing it was to do with eliminating luck from battles and sleep clause for spore abusers? Was double team such a big problem?

You are correct, if there was no sleep clause, everything will be sleeping. If there was OHKO, beginners can defeat pros with luck(anyone really). And double team falls into luck since double team keeps helping you evade and it can be untouchable.

something i cant understand is why should there be a freeze clause . u can't really control if u freeze a pokemon or not and u could be disqualified for just using ice punch twice and it freezing two pokemon out of pure chance. why would u put this rule in competitive battling?

Sleep Clause - It's straight forward. Put all pokemon to sleep then set up! Easy to win! Smeargle and Breloom are major pokemon that abused sleep!

No OHKO - Entry Hazards with Mind Reader + Sheer Cold + Sub Articuno. >_>

No Evasion : Double Team Ninjask. >_>

If you don't have any Priority on your team than use Ice Shard. I usually use Ice Shard for Dragon Dancing Dragons! Ice Punch is more powerful of course. I'm guessing you're using this in Uber. Ice Shard would be better to kill Salamence, Rayquaza, Garchomp, and Lati@s! Ice Punch can be used to deal more damage on Lati@s. Of course there is Night Slash as well. Run both Ice Punch and Ice Shard if you want!

No one actually plays by freeze clause anymore. Well at least I don't! It's like items clause. If someone's really strict then they won't use a move that could freeze if another Pokemon is already frozen! It's impossible to control! I guess it is based on the battlers. IMO I don't like freeze clause and I don't play with it!

First there's a lot of dragons, I'll try to do the most common ones.

First, your chomp. Both of the moves would work(OHKO). Ice shard

Next is salamence. This part is trickier, in other words, prediction. Ice shard will OHKO it, but not at -1 from Intimidate. If it's at +1, you are most likely going to revenge, so ice shard works there. IMO, Ice shard.

Next is Flygon. Definitely Ice shard.

Now there's Dragonite. Ice Punch. Dragonite is bulkier than others and sometimes run bulky sets and ice shard sometimes will not kill. But, Ice shard will work, but make sure you have a bigger power boost. Ice shard will be better if it's at +1 speed. So it's kinda 50/50

I have a technical question about the workings of sunny day.

Say sunny day is in effect, which would be stronger, weather ball or hp fire? hp fire gets the 50% fire damage boost (I think), but weather ball is base 100 power. Does weather ball also get a further 50% damage boost, since it is now fire type in the sun? I am just plain confused here.

What would happen in this situation?
Infernape used taunt
Metagross used Stealth rock
It failed

Infernape used Encore
What happens? Is it stuck on fail?
If so that'd be a sweet anti lead..

Try using them in reverse order:

Infernape did something
Metagross used Stealth Rock
Pointed rocks bla bla bla

Infernape used Encore
Metagross received an encore
Metagross used Stealth Rock
But it failed.

Trainer withdrew Metagross
Trainer sent out ????
Infernape used Taunt
???? fell for the taunt!

Come to think of it, that doesn't seem particularly useful. Unless I'm overlooking something. And I probably am, because I'm very tired and I'm not thinking straight.

It's probably an antiquated rule carried over from the Stadium games which enforced those rules, going so far as to consider double-sleeping or double-freezing to be a forfeit.

Yep, Weather Ball gets that boost too. And to add to that, if you're using Castform, it'll get STAB on top of that since its ability makes it a Fire type in the sun.

Are Pokemon originated from pirated copies of official Pokemon games legit?

Are hatched Pokemon originated from at least one parent that came from a pirated copy of an official Pokemon game legit and allowed to circulate in this community without problems?

Yes, many Wi-Fiers use a flash cart. However, I strongly recommend that you specify in your trade thread the origins of your game, since legit varies from person to person.

P.S. If you're not getting answers to Wi-Fi questions, try the Wi-Fi Simple Questions thread. :) It's in the Wi-Fi forum, ofc.

Does Clear Body negate the speed drop from paralysis and the attack drop from burn? Or does it only stop direct stat drops?

This ability blocks any reduction of the Pokémon's stats by the enemy. For instance, Pokémon with Clear Body are immune to Intimidate, but still receive the +2 Attack from Swagger. This does not prevent the Speed drop from Curse, the Attack and Defense drop from Superpower, or any other stat loss caused by the user. It also does not block the effects of Heart Swap, Guard Swap, or Power Swap.

No Clear Body will not negate the stat drops from Paralysis and Burn, otherwise you wouldn't burn a Metagross with Rotom.

In my own descriptions, I use the term "stat stages" to refer, in part, to the "stat drops" affected by Clear Body:

"Attacks and abilities by non-bearers can't reduce bearer's stat stages."

The Attack and Speed reductions from paralysis and burns are not stat stage reductions. The reductions from Curse, Superpower, and the like are not affected either, since they don't come from "attacks ... by non-bearers".

Well, Clear Body's description clearly states that it prevents stat reductions by the enemy.

I think this matter is resolved now. =)

Well, that's not exactly true. In double battles, even stat stage reductions by the bearer's partner are prevented. That's why my description uses the term "non-bearers" instead of "opposing Pokemon" (which latter term is closer to the common word "enemy").

Azbycx:

Yes. When a Pokemon is switched, effects on the Pokemon other than true status problems no longer take effect. This includes confusion.

Will pseudo-statuses like confusion be removed from the target upon its switching out?

yes
things like Confusion, Ghost Curse, Disable and Attraction are called non-volatile and are removed upon switching, but are baton passed.

Okay, so I just bred me a Dragonite and, with the EV spread I'm giving it, will have Atk and SpA stats such that Dragon Claw actually has *slightly* more power than Draco Meteor.

Is there any reason to run Draco Meteor over Dragon Claw? It's not affected by Salamence's Intimidate, but most dragons who don't have balanced defenses have better SpD, so Dragon Claw would do more, even without the increased crit rate.

Thanks.

Good day again. Another question!

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Simple_(ability)

Regarding the ability simple, does bulbapedia got this right? It's quite more different/detailed from what I've seen around.

"Simple also doubles the effects of critical hits to 4x regular damage as opposed to 2x.". This correct? Thats better than Octillary with Sniper if this is true right?

Also what happens if Focus Energy is baton passed to them? Does the critical hit modifier work get doubled to four stages rather than two?

Ok. Now I need a bit of help with my team. I'm just unable to decide the poké that I want for my paraflinchax team.

The two confirmed members are:
Jirachi runs Iron Head, Stealth Rock, Body Slam and Wish/U-turn
dpiconani468.gif
Togekiss AS/AS + Roost and Nasty Plot

for obvious reasons =D

I have a few more poké in mind for the team but I can't filter out the ones that shouldn't be in it. Here's the list:
dpiconani286.gif
Breloom If he's in, he would be my lead. I've tried him and he worked quite well as an anti-lead. At least, his Focus Punch usually takes down at least one poké or so, and maybe put to sleep another, though he usually gets crippled health or item wise in the process. Other than that, he's a back up fighter.
dpiconani485.gif
Heatran for his Flash Fire ability, making him a good switch in to Jirachi's counters, as well as providing a good STAB Fire attack to counter steels, something which the other poké lack.
dpiconani068.gif
Machamp 100% accurate DynamicPunch and status absorber. But his lack of type coverage make me feel like he'sa waste of space. Then again, having confusion as an added disability sounds good.
dpiconani462.gif
Magnezone Resist all of Togekiss' weaknesess. Steels aren't common switch-ins to Togekiss, so he's not used to full effectiveness.
dpiconani373.gif
Salamence /
dpiconani149.gif
Dragonite Jirachi's best friends. They resist what Jirachi is weak to and can counter back with SE moves sometimes.
dpiconani121.gif
Starmie Thunder Wave for additional paralysis incase of Jirachi's decapitation, or for increased accuracy. BoltBeam + STAB Surf makes him a good fighter + fire extinguisher.
dpiconani248.gif
Tyranitar I would only use him for Crunch/Pursuit in case of Weavile's absence, and for additional power. I'm concerned about Sand Stream damage too. On the other hand, it hits the opponents as well.
dpiconani461.gif
Weavile Anti-ghost. Pursuit + STAB + SE (maybe + CB) deals a large amount of damage to ghosts, even without them attempting to switch out. Adding in CB and switching guarantees a KO. He also provides addition Ice Shard support, maybe even Fake Out. I'm quite keen on using him since my team is pretty weak to ghosts (esp. Rotom).

If I had to choose 4 poké now, they would be:
Breloom Lead, Salamence, Weavile, and Starmie/Machamp

Please advice/Give your opinions thanks =D

Togekiss wants Thunder Wave somewhere or you won't be flinch abusing anything.

Everyone hates Breloom, use the SUbSeed set on site isntead for more RAGE. for the opponent.

Machamp is pretty effectively early game to annoy your opponent. Use the 4 Attacks variant to be really effective.

Go with Starmie as well, since Togekiss and your Dragons don't like Rocks.
