I was talking to a friend on another forum, and this seems like a pretty solid move idea. A specially-based move that always gets critical hits. As such, it would have to have a low base power (30 or 35?), but in turn, it puts all those damn CMers in their place. My proposed move was:

[insert name here]
35 Base Power (effectively 70, which is less than Dark Pulse), Dark-type Special
Critical hit chance (100%).

As long as we don't give it to a Pokemon that can get STAB (No Darkrai. Absol won't make much use of it. Maybe TTar can, so lower the BP to 30, but that doesn't change all too much.), it shouldn't be broken. And considering it's Dark-type, it gets neutral damage on all CMers, and super-effective damage on some (Celebi, I am looking at you).

And hell, it would even make that one Pokemon with Anger Point a bit more viable, because he has something to switch into for free Belly Drum boost at less HP cost.

I suggested a move that always gets crits about a hundered pages back but I made it Fighting with 50 Base (so effectively 100). It wouldn't be broken even with that much power because it's essentially an Earthquake that can't get crits. Since there aren't any Dark moves that have over 80 Base Power, you could make it 40 or 45 (and give it essentially 80 or 90) which would make it more viable, and people won't neccesarily use it simple because it can take out Calm Minders. Roar and Taunt already do that and they're not used to counter them.

STAB isn't a problem since it won't be much more powerful than Dark Pulse. The only problem you could have with it is if a Pokemon with Technician gets it. It would essentially be a perfect accuracy Fire Blast.

Ouch, a hundred pages? I've been here for like four days, so I wouldn't know. D:

And you make a valid point. Either Fighting or Dark, they both aren't the best of offensive typings, due to the former having a Ghost-immunity and the latter having a Steel-resistance. And yeah, I guess you COULD amp up the BP so it would be a valid move and not just a CM-breaker.

I can imagine some noob ragequatting from Shoddy when that move always gets a crit. "Too much hax, man."

So here's a slightly non-battle related question... What does everyone expect from the web play? I think that GameFreak may be subverting Shoddy Battle and NetBattle as far as online competitive battling is concerned... Though the information on the official site is EXTREMELY vague, and I'm only working with really bad translations (everyone loves Google Translate. lol)

to my knowledge, Shoddy allows you to pick moves, IVs, EVs, natures, items, and anything else without the hassle of doing it in game; it's faster, easier, and is much more reliable when it comes to finding people to battle. I doubt in game online will do any of those things.

that being said, it seems to have improved a great deal from what it was. Random battle is a plus.

i dont know if it was discussed or not but ive got some guesses on two things... the bee hive place and that wild bolt move... im pretty sure the bee hive place is a gym, since during the pokemon sunday episode they played the clip of it and the music in the the bee hive place sounds quite a bit like the gym music from this past generation...

also the wild bolt move... i have a feeling like its a physical move from the animation... which the bolt part could mean like bolt as in move... kind of make it a more powerful spark... just my 2 cents on the pokemon sunday footage

I have a prediction that Tsutāja -> Grass/Psychic

- its Pokédex entry talks about how highly intelligent and calm it is, so I'm thinking a Psychic-type gain during evolution

Also, someone asked about Hihidaruma's Encourage ability: it boosts each move's attack power, at the expense of nullifying any secondary effects.

We all know that, people were wondering if that included negative effects on the user, such as Flare Blitz's recoil. I'm willing to bet that it only nullifies beneficial stuff, like a burn from a fire attack, or stat boosts upon use like AncientPower (not that I think it would learn that).

On another note, when I first saw the beehive place I was pretty sure it was a gym, and it turns out it is.

Auto crit + Sniper ability

.. No. 3x hit on everything would be way too powerful on something like Drapion (who is also a dark type, to get STAB if it is a dark type move).

Drapion only has 60 Base SpAtk so it would only be able to hit as hard as something with 115 Base with that move. While that is powerful, it wouldn't have the ability to use any other special moves effectively and splitting its EVs would make it less effective (and it still probably wouldn't be able to take out Skarmory).

That brings up another point, though. Drapion would probably be the best counter for this move because it has Battle Armor and a resistance to Dark.

On topic, I don't see the point of an always-crit move save for Sniper Pokemon, and even then, its kind of a nice boost to them, since that ability was never really popular otherwise. I doubt they'd make multiple type clones of that move that did that kind of thing though, and distribution would probably be low.

Off topic, I think someone mentioned this earlier, but I'm kind of saddened by the low amount of artwork made to guess what the new Pokemons' evolutions will look like. I think it's kind of interesting, and even if you aren't very good at it, it's a fun pastime...
I made some quick and not-so-quick assumptions of what I think they will look like, to keep up the spirit.

Water/Ice Mijumaru evolution (Did this during driver's ed)
http://i50.tinypic.com/20zwowl.jpg
I noticed most of the assumptions of this starter's final type were Water/Ice, so I tried to follow that theme. I think those guesses are correct, but I'd be pleasantly surprised to see a different typing too.

Fire/Fighting Pokabu evolution
http://i49.tinypic.com/2q8126p.jpg
Someone actually requested this one, and it made me wonder how the community would react to yet another Fire/Fighting starter coming out. After all, that pessimistic side of you knows that something like this is going to happen... My personal opinion on this is that Pokabu will probably turn out to be Fire/Dark, just look at that bandit sash on Pokabu's head. Only Nintendo knows at this point, I guess. EDIT: I forgot to explain, but it's supposed to be based off of a sumo wrestler.

Grass/Flying or Grass/Dragon Tsutaja evolution
http://i50.tinypic.com/k1qmb4.jpg
This was my entry for the Monthly Art Contest, and I encourage everyone to check that thread out, since this month's theme is (conveniently) possible Tsutaja evolutions. Despite the painting though, I think Tsutaja will probably end up being Grass/Poison, just from the whole Grass Snake species thing (being pessimistic again).

I think someone should try out possible evolution designs for the non-starter Pokemon also. I think Shimama might possibly evolve into a pegasus. This sounds kind of strange at first, but I can't be the only one who thought "Ponyta" when I saw Shimama the first time. They look similar in several ways, and just like Ponyta (who gets Run Away and Flash Fire), Shimama also has a rather useless in-battle ability and a type absorb one (Lightningrod and Motor Drive). Since Ponyta evolves into Rapidash, a unicorn, one can imply that Shimama will evolve into its counterpart, a pegasus, probably Electric/Flying type.

Of course, this may just be me hoping for another Electric/Flying type in the back of my mind.

What do you guys think of the potential evolutions of the new Pokemon?

Kassidy, those look great but I really don't want another Fire/Fighting starter (of course, it still looks like it could be Fire/Dark or Fire/Ground, especially if it were 4-legged). I mainly don't want to see a Grass/Dragon Tsutaja evo because the Pokabu evo wouldn't be able to hit it SE without becoming something weird (or a Flying Pig which would get raped by SR). Of course, it still looks epic and I hope they make a Grass/Dragon Pokemon of some sort.

I never really thought about Shimama evolving into a Pegasus but Electric/Flying is a good offensive and defensive type and two immunities (including Motor Drive) and a few good resistances will let it switch in.

Woah , cool drawings , I wish I had some drawing skills D:

Anyway I never imagined Pokabu being Fire/Fighting just because he's a pig and pigs dont usually stand and all , but it kinda makes sense from your drawing , Im still opting for Fire/Ground though:/

good pics, even if i trained my entire life i would never be able to do something like that.

dragon/grass all the way, fuck the starters types cause i want something cool.

fire/ground pig all the way, sorry but fighting/fire just dont work anymore.

the other is a glaceon wannabe.

Recoil isn't a secondary effect, though. From what I know about game mechanics, recoil is a typeless passive damage that does a given amount of the HP dealt (1/2, 1/3). It's actually built into the move, and you can't stop that unless you use an external force (the ability Rock Head).

Secondary effects are burns from Flamethrower, or freezes from Blizzard, or SpD drops from Psychic. It nullifies any chances of THOSE happening in exchange for some boost to the move or to the attacking stats.

And the SpA drop from Overheat isn't a secondary effect. That is also built into the move. So Encourage would still give you a SpA drop when you use Overheat, because the move Overheat has the -2 SpA drop programmed into it. It doesn't happen "some of the time", it happens every time you use it.

Random battle is a plus.

I really wish WiFi had that option of choosing six random Pokemon from your box and auto-leveling them to 100. :D

Oh, and that is what I was saying before. An auto-crit Dark-type move would really skyrocket the use of Pokemon with Anger Point (Primeape I knew, but I forgot Tauros). Primeape is only taking 1/2 damage, and gets a free +6 Attack boost at little damage. And Tauros has decent enough defenses to not be bothered by a 80 or 90 BP move.

And like someone mentioned before, Drapion isn't going to do anything with the SpA it has.

I think the most optimal (but not most probable) typings for the starters would be Water/Normal, Fire/Dark, Grass/Dragon. None of these really seem probably, as an otter doesn't really look part Normal, a pig isn't Dark, and a British snake/salamander/thing isn't a Dragon.

Grass/Psychic, Water/Ice and Fire/Ground seem the most probable, but I don't like either of those typings.

Wow, pretty good drawings. It's just kinda creepy that those drawings are the exact typings I think they will be and they look exactly the same as I see them in my head (I thought I was going to be stoned by saying Pokabu was going to evolve into a Fire/Fighting Sumo Wrestler... very creepy how coincidental this is).

Edit: @auto-crit move: I really wouldn't mind it if it brought my favorite Fighting (Primeape) out of NU due to Anger Point. I just hope it wouldn't get outclassed by Tauros.

Has anyone thought about English names yet? I'm new to the battling subculture of Pokemon since I used to only watch the show, but as an anime fan, I know some people take translations very seriously. Anyways, while at work, I tried thinking of English names, but could only come up with one for Mamepato since it's tougher than I thought.

How about Cooly. You know, since pigeons coo. It was tough since Pidgey/otto/eot already have the pigeon name taken.

@Kassidy
Those are some awesome pictures. Tsutaja is the coolest in my opinion.

Chiramii is kinda the Pachirisu/Pikachu of this gen, so the English name should stay Chiramii (or something like it).

Gear is very simple. Its English name should be something to do with the word gear, but not Gear itself imo.

True, Zekrom and Reshiram are the respective legendaries' confirmed English names, according to Serebii, and I think the same goes to Zorua/Zoroark.

What do you think of Dovely? I always confuse turtle doves for pidgeons, mostly because they are so closely related, and I like the sound of Dove+Lovely.

I thought Hihidaruma was already quite fitting, since a daruma is a japanese doll-like figure, and that is what its face is based on. Does Game Freak ever keep the Japanese names for the English versions? I thought they did but I can't remember. EDIT: Yes they do.

I can't think of any other ones at the moment, but I do want to see what some people come up with.

I agree completely, except for the part that secondary effects can only happen some of the time. If it used Mud-Slap or Rock Tomb, the accuracy/Speed drops most likely wouldn't happen. I think Hihidaruma will still take damage from recoil and have its SpAtk lowered when using Overheat, but they will still probably get boosted.

I think Encourage gives you the boost reguardless of what the move is but it nulifies any sort of positive effect that that move gives. So Earthquake would get the 1.2x boost (or whatever it is) even though it doesn't have any added effect. I've seen some people saying that it will give a boost based on the chance that the move has an added effect (so Thunder would get a 1.3x boost because it has a 30% chance to Paralyze) which is interesting but I think a flat boost for everything is more likely.

Edit: Perhaps Gear will become something like Cogduo (cog + duo) and Hihidaruma will become Babodaruma (baboon + daruma).
