My own idea for a game<with art>

Primal, you mind if I'm in on the story? I've got a very strong writing bachground and I think I'd be able to help a lot. Also, should I do art direction, I believe it'll help me a lot.

Okay, I could show you the old manuscript of the story I wrote last year. The present story is loosely based on it although it will end up very different. The story is 82,000 words in length and took me 3 months to write<last summer.> Although, it's not that great which is why I wanted to re-write it.

Many "roles" have been reversed and altered in my present story, well, the old characters don't exist, but new characters that look vaguely similar. The series of events and the villain types are some thing it has in common<other than it being a story about animals>. I think this new story is actually exciting since I get to use story elements that weren't possible in the previous story. Something the previous story lacked was any strong character conflicts and it was kind of cheesy in some parts while there is none of that in this new story. Do you want to be let in on the new story too? Despite spoilers? :X

It's not finished but I can give you a summary of it.

I like the idea, but you really have to think about how your willing to pull this off and put it into a game (i havent read it all, but you seem undecided, too busy with art/story). The easiest way to do this would be to make a sprite based rpg, as 3d will bring with it many more possible troubles. Doing it sprite based also doesnt neccesarily mean low quality, you can use high resolution sprites and many animations, but itll be hard. There also are several programms to make such games (not as cheap as gamemaker, just stuff to take away aprts of the coding), but eventually your going to have to do parts of the coding yourself or someone else has to do it.

Nevertheless, i like the ambitions and the art was quite fun to watch ;). Good luck with it.

You should have read it all. XD I was only undecided in the initial posts. I'm willing to work on this project if I manage to get the help needed to make this game. Although, I already went through the analysis of wether to go 2D or 3D in a previous post.

If done in 2D, to make the game with the least amount of tedious work, it would have to be static images in order for it to keep its customization. If done with animations, it would have to go the route of pokemon with monster "species" and only their palletes and in game battle stats being editable.

3D would be the preffered method as having customization and animation will be easier as you don't have to individually animate every custom part. 3D would also allow for dynamic camera angles and free roaming views to make the fight more epic. The posts with all the hidden tags contain a brief explanation of some of the game mechanics and features.

I intend to be into this project as much as I can be so I think spoiler are something that is unavoidable. If you would send me a Email with the attached files that would be great. When I get back home I'll pm you my email address.

PROMOTIONAL ART

animals.png

It's work in progress, but there must be something to promote this would be game! I realized that whoever works on this will probably have flexibility with the story since I'm thinking there should be different story paths based on what region the animal is from. The story for the game and the story I'm writing that the game is based on has no affect in the games world other than the NPCs appearing in the backdrop. Although the villains are pretty major so they will have an impact of some kind on the story mode. The player's own edited animal is the protagonist in game.

Also, the only villain in that art is that thing near the middle with the smile, it's name is Spidergeddon. Despite being small, it has dangerous powers!

Although, I must say that the top priority for this game is getting a working engine of the gameplay, all else can come later, even in another iteration if there is no time for it.

Basically, things like 3D graphics, animation, visual customization, dynamic angles, story mode, are all things that may go if there aren't resources available for them.

The unorthodox "turn based" engine is what I would like built before anything else. Even if it had to be partially text based like pokemon, the parts that are most intriguing is how the system handles those "turns". I would be satisfied with just static graphic images for the initial build of this engine. Then while this version is out, the 3D version/advanced 2D version of the game is developed. And if the last iteration was the 2D based version, then a 3D version with all the stuff I envisioned would be released, that's my plan anyways. I want the initial iteration of this engine to be done before the end of the year. So my question is, how much time did something like Pokemon Online or shoddy battle take to program before there was a working version of it? Would having more programmers speed up the process of building an engine?
