Nuzlocke Challenge

Well, I'm quitting Firered Nuzlock.

I've tried about 10 times [Counting the attempts I made in the past, way back], and each time, get put in a position where I won't be able to proceed further, be it Bulbasaur getting critted early on, leaving you with no pokemon to take on the Poision-types, or Brock, or the rest of my team getting posioned by the literal army of Poision types you fight, leaving nothing but Poision types in your possession, causing your defeat when you get to Sabrina.

Stupid Poision...

If you're worried about poison in Fire Red so much (which is a reasonably-founded fear), then fight off Poison-types with your own. It's a really good idea to fight Koga with your army of Poison-types (and a Snorlax with Immunity if you have one) so that you might have monsters to spare when you encounter Sabrina.

I've been doing a Nuzlocke run on Fire Red lately, and poison types are fantastic here. Zubats are a bit of a pain to level up, but once it knows Bite and Wing Attack, it's gonna be a massive help against both Erika and Koga.

I'm not sure why Erika is such a big deal; go in there with like two or three flyers with Wing Attack/Aerial Ace/Fly, and you can decimate the gym in no time. And if you do get poisoned (kind of unlikely), just Fly back to the Center (provided you have more than 1 HP left).

As for Koga, it is scary to fight the two Koffing that Selfdestruct, but if you can beat them or make their Selfdestruct miss somehow, it's not that bad. Snorlax with Immunity, as well as Poison-types with non-Poison attacks, are highly recommended here. Golbat had Bite and Wing Attack, and I should've taught my Vileplume Cut or Secret Power instead of Acid.

Then again, it's my first Nuzlocke run. Maybe I'm just lucky (or overleveling). Basically, fight poison with poison. Just a thought.

Not as bad as Thunderboltzagoon or Thunderpunchtite (at least it's special...). Or Shock Wave Volbeat. (If you go in there, thinking you can Swellow your way to Wattson and use someone else afterwards, YOU ARE WRONG.)

Anyway, FR Update!

In Mt. Moon.

Losses: 0. (SEE? POISON ISN'T THAT BAD)

Team:

Aska(ninjask) the Zubat, level 14.
Astonish, Leech Life, Supahsonic.

Vader the Mankey, level 15.
Karate Chop, Low Kick, Scratch, Leer. (I can forsee Vital Spirit coming in handy)

Fireburn the Charmeleon, level 16.
Ember, Metal Claw, Scratch, Growl. (HERE'S how you beat Weedles!)

IN THE BOX:

HD the Pidgey.

Platinum is a BITCH. By the 2nd gym the gym leaders and Galactic Admins are happily throwing 2nd stage fully evolved Pokes with triple-digit Atk stats and Spd in your face (curse you Roserade and Mismagius) which will happily crush your poor Grotles/Staravias/god knows what else into the ground.

Agreed. If you're not prepared for them the admirals Skuntank and Purugly can be a massive threat.

I'd say a lot of Nuzlocke deaths can be put down to not knowing what's ahead like that though. My Emerald run finished in the Psychic gym where I made the false assumption that like Ruby/Sapphire the two gym leaders only had two Pokemon both of whom would have an issue with Surf. I got horribly raped as I didn't think it necessary to go back and heal.

Also knowing which trainers have filthy wobbuffets would've been a god send as well.

Why would you think this.

Sending Swellow, or any flying type, into an electric type gym is suicide.

I don't recall any trainers in HG/SS using Wobbuffets (thankfully), but definitely avoid the Blackthorn side of the Dark Cave, or come with Smoke Balls equipped.

Ok so i'm in a nuzlocke run, and i'm getting to the point where i'm starting to wonder if maybe dustox mayhave outlived his usefulness. I am currently at that trick house for a point of refrence. I looked through his movest i i discovered one that maybe viable in the elite 4, a staller set with toxic, protect, moonlight, and lightscreen. But since ive got a no items clasue, i wonder if i will run out of pp. Hes is my teams poison immune (so necessary) if that makes a difference. Or do you think he should just run an attacking set? Tell me your oppinons.

If you can't use items, a stall set would be a bad idea for the Elite Four. Once it runs out of PP it's as good as useless.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Nulockeing on saphire and forgot about the may battle on route 110, had herbert (my dustox) in when wailmer started rollouting on me so i switch to iggy (my grovyle) who wasnt at full health (cause i forgot about the battle). Rollout cirts on the switch and kills me. I clean up with Polly (my taillow) but now iggy is gone forever. Only my second death and the first of anyone important. However my team and i will regroup and go on. But Iggy, you will be dearly missed.

RIP Iggy, lvl 17 grovyle; met route 101, died route 110

*raspberry sigh*

So I switched out Koromori for Karpdegrac and went on to Slateport.
Through vigorous switching, I began the process of raising Karp on the beach.

I also decided this would be a good time for Neena to do some work.
Then came that blasted Tuber and his dumb Zigzagoon.
SURF
WHY WOULD YOU HAVE THAT
WHYYYYY

All of that leveling work for nothing. SHE WAS SO CLOSE TO BEING A NINJASK & SHEDINJA. THERE WAS GOING TO BE SO MUCH CHEESING ;-;
She didn't even get a good battle...

But I got it together, swapped out for PCH0000 and continued the beach and Soda Pop house. Stocked up on the supplies, went to the dock, and then the museum.

You know, I don't think the museum music is played elsewhere in the game, it's quite a nice track. RSE had some really nice, distinctive music.

The magma grunts were no problem, so on I went.

On the next route I got a Male Gulpin who I cared so little for I don't even remember what I called him.
I used one in Colosseum, he was pretty cool.

Now I knew about the May battle coming up, so I did a brief bit of leveling and then went to see her.

MAY BATTLE 2:
Wailmer was actually kind of a pain. Rollout's no joke. Almost killed Trish! And kept avoiding Leech Seed somehow. But she kept surving and through a combination of Leech Seed, effect spore's paralysis, and mega drain it went down.
Numel was easy peasy for the good Professor.
Grovyle went down in two Wing Attacks & a Quick Attack.

Made my way up to Mauville, got Rock Smash and the Mach Bike and went straight to the Day Care.
There I put Death & Koromori in to level up while I train (yo dawg we heard you like leveling...).

As I cleared out the route, those Doduos are no joke. Almost killed like three of my Pokemon, good god.
The first Pokemon I met was a Male level 14 Roselia. His name is Madda.
I used a Roselia (well, Roserade) in Diamond. Pretty cool guys, they are. I decided to keep one around and raise it up later. At the very least, it can resist electric attacks.
Verdanturf is such a pretty town. RS in general are very pretty games, really took advantage of the system well. Every time I go there, I eagerly await the remakes...

Anyway, back to Mauville to take care of Wally. Two Headbutts from PCH0000 did the trick. And then. Disaster :(

The guitarist. He is horrible.
I sent PCH0000 against him since I had Rock Smash on it and he needed some levels.
When all it was using was Super Sonic, Tackle, and Metal Sound, I didn't think about Thundershock coming at all.
Thundershock hurts.
And especially so with a -6 Sp. Def Zigzagoon.
r.i.p PCH0000 you did well. He even had a Full Heal after the battle. Such a trooper ;-;

So I brought Madda back in. I'll probably train him after Wattson, I need to focus on Trish evolving to a Breloom and finding things to beat up is hard enough as is.
Such as the family of Vs. Who were pretty easy pickings, honestly, except that damn Hi Jump Kick Meditite.
STOP HITTING DAMMIT ugh almost killed Trish.

Birdy, however, has no problem and in fact just evolved into a Swellow! Fantastic.

I think I'll work on getting Trish to a Breloom and Psi to an equal level on the the Magnemites on Cycling Road before going against Wattson. Also evolve Karpdegrac. He's sitting pretty at level 19. Almost there!

BE THE BEAST NEENA & PCH0000 DREAMED OF ;-;

Breloom's Mach Punch has brought me many a victory in the past 4 times I've fought him (Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, Scramble Sapphire).

I hope Trish can make it #5.

O.K i give. Ill start my run for a re run or HG. I am a male now since it was too hard to be female all the time. Anyway its Cindaquil time! Maybe ill story some bits. For now though ill summerise what has hapened.

I Rocked over (name is Riley by the way) to the gym and picked up a Cindaquil (named Vulcan). After all I did not want f**king Bellsprout criting my starter again. Anyway I stroll on and pick up this useless egg and rock back. In the process my
Vulcangrew another 5 levels so my Rival (Fritz-not based on anyone in particlar......) was a breeze. Anyway since I had past pretty much all the roues I carried on and entered Route 31 with a Level 12 Vulcan. There I cam accross a Bellsprout which kept Vine Whipping me. I got its health down and threw a ball. Then..... Bellsprout used Vine Whip, Its a critical hit!, Me:Fuck and then: CRIT THIS! Vulcan used Ember! Bellsprout lose 600000% of its health. Bellsprout fainted. So yep no pokemon for me (I still maintain that my finger slipped). I picked up a Wooper at Route 32 and named it Slick. I thne got a Mareep egg from Primo and did not bother getting the Slugma and Wooper Egg since I felt that would be too easy. Anyway I caught a Gastly at the Sprout Tower and named it Nightmare. Mareep hatched and I named it Meridian (after Meridian Energy). After a bit of grinding (Wooper was level 6, Gastly at Level 3 and Meridianat Level 1) I smoked the Sprout Tower and Vulcan evolved.

Then it was me vs Falkner.
His Pidgey was crushed my Meridian and then my Nightmare but his Pigeotto to Sleep. I used Curse and then it woke up (after 1 turn!) and used Gust putting Gastly at 9 health. Then it as back to Meridian and started hitting it with thundershock while it rooted. Eventualy it tackled me and it CRIT my sheep but I survived and knocked the basterd off!

Anyway The Slowpoke well was cleaned out and my Togipi Egg hatched at the Ruins of Alph (named it Hope). I then challenged Bugsy. Meridian (deja Vu anyone?) faced off against Scyther which used Focus Energy while I hit it with Thunder Wave. I then hit it with a Thundershock (did not even take it below half health) while it used Leer. I then Crit it with a Thundershock which was lucky considering that if it had survived and used U-Turn I was a dead sheep (which was what happened Last time). Anyway Bugsy was beaten and then Fritz was also taken care off. Hope evolved after the battle which was pretty cool.

Anyway the Team.

AUGH

after restarting my saphire game with torchic (chickfila), here are the pokemon i get;

route 104: zigzagoon (zigger)
route 105: zigzagoon (zaggot)
petalburg woods: zigzagoon (FFFFUUUUUU)
route 116: nicada (FINALLY).... thats modest

Eh, I'm too stubborn, and have nothing to do, so, I'm attempting FireRed.. again.

This time, my team is right at the start:

Bulby: Bulbasaur
Twitter: Pidgey
Tweet: Pidgey
Chopah: Mankey [Lucky me!]
Wiggles: Caterpie

Hmm, big lack of Poision [Status] immunities :/

Oh, and, rate my Caterpie XD

Caterpie (Bashful) [Lv 7 before Evo]:
10 - 24 / 26 - 31 / 16 - 29 / 20 - 26 / 20 - 26 / 24 - 26

Caterpie(Bashful) [Taken after Evo... IDK why it still said Caterpie, I guess because I had inputted the lv5 and 6 stats for Caterpie]:
15 - 26 / 24 - 31 / 19 - 29 / 22 - 26 / 22 - 26 / 11 - 24

Actual Range:
15-24 / 26-31 / 19-29 / 22-26 / 22-26 / 24

It seems to have rolled some semi-decent IV 's XD Too bad they're on a pokemon that's not semi-decent, still, if it turns out to have 31 attack, it can be breeding fodder if I palpark it...

And so the deaths come hard and fast! Right after losing Priscilla the Staravia to a Siesmic Toss, I get lost wandering about in Wayward Cave (the dark bit) and cycle straight into a double battle just as my Pokemon are screaming at me for not using my damn Escape Rope. (I hadn't run into Marley.)

So I have a burnt Psyduck (Ostrich), a red health Bronzor (Ironthingy), an utterly useless Togepi that CAN'T GODDAMN ATTACK (Bork) and a sorta okay Grotle (Mildred). My Psyduck and Mildred are out, but Psyduck gets brought down to red. No sweat, I think. Ironthingy can tank one more hit while Mildred wins this!

I don't know what the hell I was thinking, but anyway, I sent out a dying Bronzor in lieu of a Togepi with perfect health and which didn't even need to attack (double battle, rmb). So Bronzor goes out, eats a NON-CRIT Water Pulse from a measly Psyduck, and dies. And right after the battle, I finally decide to use that Escape Rope. For some reason I can't help but wish I'd used it a bit sooner.

So now, I still have to face Fantina a second time (I got completely wiped the last time but decided to give myself one more shot) with this AWESOME team:

Mildred (Grotle) Lvl 28: gets 2HKOed by Shadow Ball and always gets burnt by Fantina's Duskull so I can't Curse up first
Ostrich (Psyduck) Lvl 25: has the sheer defensive stopping power of wet tissue. Magical Leaf = OHKO.
Bork (Togepi) Lvl 22: best moveset eva --> Charm, Encore, Sweet Kiss, and Yawn. Hell yeah! I'm sure Cynthia is shaking in her sleek leather boots just thinking about how badly her Attack will be lowered by this powerhouse.

What should I do? Any help? I have a Lvl 20 Shellos and Lvl 20 Eevee lying around, but I'm really reluctant to train any new Pokes after having wasted hours training my poor deceased Staravia and Ironthingy.

Sadly I think that Umbreon is your bst option. Otherwise I think that yawning with Togapi until something sleeps and them pumping out the X Attacks and X Special Defences on your Grotle is your only option.

EDIT not sure how Togetic/pi takes a psybeam but against Mimagius you can use te hole Wish + Encore + Yawn thing pretty well.
Also have you been to the Old Chatau. Rotom could prove usefull abusing Double Team.

But if Eevee, Shellos, Psyduck, Grotle and Togepi then its really difficult

I'm thinking of doing this challenge on pearl. Just a question before it though.

In the very first battle against a lv.2 Starly in Lake verity, which comes out of the trees, not the grass, does it count of the first pokemon you see in Lake verity grass, or can you still catch the next pokemon you actually see in the grass there?

Well Damn. I am furious, damn Seribii.
I thought that you could get a Shiny Stone BEFORE the Elite 4 but no, you cannot. Now what am I going to do with that Togetic I got since its pretty useless at the moment until its a Togekiss. Maybe ill do a mammoth Grind after the E4 and use it in Kanto. Thoughts anyone?
