Wrong, so wrong, the point of this entire poll is that there is so much more to it. I have yet to see a fully developed and reasoned argument in Kukem's favor, while I see several in support of DougCome on Kukem! Only 5% behind!
Kukem's design is badass. That's all there is to it.
EVERY argument is subjective, but I'll try to cover the common points.
1: Doug's design doesn't look like a fighting type.
Well to be honest, I can make that claim about several Pokemon, even though you may not agree. Breloom is a devastating Fighting-type in the metagame, yet it doesn't have boxing gloves or bulging muscles. Herasross and Toxicroak don't exactly scream "Fighting" either.
That said, Voodoom, as he is now affectionately called, has several Fighting elements. Large fists, a brown color scheme, an arsenal of needle weapons, and even the battle-chipped eye all represent the Fighting type.
2: We already have Baynette as a puppet Pokemon.
Har de' frickin' har. If you ask me this excuse is just plain lazy, petty, and in fact, downright ignorant. How many Rodents are there in Pokemon again? More to the point, they aren't all the same type. Most are normal, while Pokemon's mascot is an Electric-type. In fact, I'll cover the Looks like a Ghost argument in the same breath. Doll may equal creepy, but it certainly doesn't mean undead. Doug even went out of his way to explain the use of dark magic, which involves far more skills then simple necromancy.
While we're playing the type challenge game, other then color, what exactly about Kukem's entry conveys the Dark type?
3: It looks wrong for the stats we picked.
Another case of jumping the gun. The Pokemon may not be the size of the Pillsbury Doughboy, we haven't discussed height and weight yet. I could be shallow and just say "it can because we vote it can," but I have a better argument. Speed for example. Before even knowing weight, I ask you how do you think such a Pokemon will move? I see more cartwheeling, and throwing itself around as opposed to running on those stumpy legs, and it works even better considering the "dirty fighting" theme present in several entries. While I can also see the point of seeing Doug's entry as a Physical attacker, I say, that's what the dark magic of the backstory is for. Voodoom won't punch with a stuffed hand doing little damage, he'll use that needle as a wand or shoot a Kamehameha of black juju.
This is not an attack against Kukem, and I'm going to make this same argument against Doug's design as well. Passionate as your opinions get, they're still opinions! appropriateness is relative, and some factors appeal more to voters then others. Others carry more weight.
All in all, I encourage you to be comfortable in your choice, whatever the reasons, but we shouldn't look down on others for our choices.
On a last note to Kukem, I will say that you have a well done design, but for several reasons, Doug's design just appeals to me more. It's still close, and whatever direction the scales tip, I hope we can all learn to live with the final selection.
