Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
With the completion of my Scramble challenge I'm going to start a Nuzlocke challenge in Platinum.
Rules:
1) Fainted Pokemon shall be released
2) First seen Pokemon in an area is the only Pokemon eligible to be caught
3) Name your Pokemon, they're your friends.
4) Leftovers are allowed, everything else isn't.
5) You can use Pokecenters as many times as you want.
6) No Legendaries (although I will probably catch them if I don't die in the process, because then I wont have to later)
7) You can grind as much as you want to, however, I probably will only grind to ensure at least one of my pokemon can make it through a battle, but nothing in excess.
It is ridiculous how many times I've been poisoned. Everything poisons you. My Whiffle (whismur) as survived multiple times but I lost Kibbles and Poop (Poochyenas) that way...Training is so hard.
This sounds like an interesting challenge. I'll start it on my Pearl tomorrow. I guarantee I'll be a nervous wreck during it.
Personal rules:
Fainted Pokemon get box'd
First seen Pokemon in an area is the only Pokemon eligible to be caught
No healing items allowed , Antidotes permitted (not dying the cheap way)
Item holding allowed, but no healing items
Got raped big time by the Kimono Girls! I lost my Jolteon to Flareon's Fire Blast, and promptly died to her Jolteon since my only other two real fighters were Feraligatr and Slowbro. I'm contemplating completely restarting my challenge, but since I've gotten so far I don't think I will. I'll probably just pull a few deposited guys out of storage and train them. So tell me: would this lot be worth spending at least three/four/five hours of grinding time on?
Well, there's the Shiny Gyarados from the Lake of Rage, but it's Timid so I don't really want to train it. I have a Naughty Magikarp lying around; maybe I should really consider training it, or at least dumping it in the daycare. I've also got a Flaafy and a Graveler in the box, but I've trained both of those before so I don't really want to use those anymore.
I depart for Vermillion City immediately. I go through the previously blocked house and romp the Team Rocket member standing there and retrieve the Dig TM. I go and deposit Magikarp into the Daycare because I do not fancy switch grinding again, especially since it only knows Splash! I make my way through the underground passage and beat the trainers at the end of the route with ease. I enter into Vermillion with a smile on my face.
I heal up and talk to the pretty girl beside me who presents me with a VS. Seeker. Intrigued I go give it a test spin. I fight the Bug Catcher with the Butterfree again and win with ease again, then I fight the girl who had the 3 Pidgeys last time, but I was definitely not ready to see Pidgeottos staring me down. I scramble since I was still training up Spearow to level 25 to learn Aerial Ace and I knew it couldn't handle them without dying, especially since they spammed Quick Attack. I sent out Raticate and he is met with Sand-Attack, ugh. He drops the first bird only to meet the second one right behind it. Jerry put up a valiant effort, but he met a early end from a critical Quick Attack behind Leer and a miss from Hyper Fang after the first one hit, may you R.I.P. Nequam finishes off the weak Pidgeotto and kill off the last Pidgey.
I lay Jerry to rest, then I go and nab me a Bellsprout, HM Slave! I also go and get the Bike Voucher and hightail it back to Cerulean to get my bike! I zip back to Vermillion, finish training Nequam to 25, teach it Aerial Ace and finally evolve it into a Fearow! Oh, and get on the S.S. Anne.
At the end, after dominating Sailors and civilians alike, Gary decides it's time to battle me again. He brags a bit about the Pokemon he has caught while I twirl Nequam's pokeball.
==BATTLE!==
Jason vs. Gary #4
3-4
Nequam stares down Gary's bird Pidgeotto, the rivalry between these two species of bird pokemon is making Nequam quite antsy. I command an Aerial Ace and Nequam zips through the hallway of the S.S. Anne and connects with the attack flawlessly and takes out Pidgeotto.
3-3 Jason
Nequam repeats the same thing again on Raticate and then on Kadabra, both with OHKOs. I wonder how in the hell Gary beat Misty. Sex appeal? FUCK THAT!!
3-1 Jason
Nequam is met on the battlefield by Charmeleon, whom he finally decided to evolve, but he doesn't fare any better than his other comrades and is romped in the ass by Nequam's beak. Victory!
3-0 Jason
==END BATTLE!==
Gary says something about the Captain upstairs and the HM Cut then runs off to train so he can suck less. I head upstairs to see the sickly captain blowing chucks in the trashcan. I give him a back rub (no homo) to ease his pain and he gives me the HM for Cut as a thanks. I promptly teach it to my Bellsprout Seymour.
I watch to S.S. Anne leave then I go and nab me a Diglett from the cave on my way back to Pewter. I named him DOOM-MOLE. Seems a guy wants an Abra for his Mr. Mime...hmm...I will keep that in mind. I handle business in Pewter, shoot the shit with people and cut some trees, and get some Old Amber for later use. I also grab the HM for Flash
I head back to Vermillion to train up my Doom-Mole from the trainers on the route near Vermillion while I catch a Sandshrew for my collection. I finish my training, heal, and enter the Vermillion Gym making short work of Lt. Surge's group of flunkies thanks to Dig and Magnitude from Diglett. After figuring out the locks, I step in front of Lt. Surge for our showdown.
==BATTLE!==
Jason vs. Lt. Surge
Diglett enters the battlefield leaving a trail in his wake and he is met by Voltorb. Doom-Mole quickly burrows underground while the living pokeball stammers and misses with its Tackle. Voltorb is demolished by the Dig from Doomy and instantly taken out to pasture
3-2 Jason
Enter Pikachu, the Lightning Rat. I decide to roll the dice with Magnitude since the most recent ones have been more than a tremor, but this one left much to be desired. Doomy showed his embarrassment, but shook it off and unleashed a Magnitude that definitely registered with the Electric Rat as it went down for the count
3-1 Jason
Out comes Raichu. I figured I shouldn't bullshit around with this particular rat and immediately dig while it uses Double Team...that rat bastard, pun intended. Diglett connects with his Dig attack leaving Raichu on last legs while it used Slam, but missed. Knowing Surge would heal Raichu, I use Magnitude to put it in Dig kill range. It was a level 4 tremor, but it did its job of softening it up. Dig meets Double Team, which means it missed, but the subsequent Dig connected full on and took out Raichu and gave me the win!
3-0 Jason
==END BATTLE!==
Lt. Surge presents me with the Thunderbadge! I shake his hands and part for the Pokemon Center. I train Doom-mole a bit so that he evolved into Dugtrio, sprouting 2 more heads. I heal onces more and decide to rest.
Part 6: Rocky Road! Needs More Chocolate! Coming Soon!
Mandra took the lose of Jerry pretty hard. Despite their different in attitudes, they were very close since Jerry was the first pokemon I caught and they were together since then. His silliness grew on Mandra over time. He knew he had to stay strong for the rest of the team, so he sucked it up and moved on. Doom-Mole reminds Mandra a lot about Jerry since they are both silly away from battle making the transition easier for everyone.
Nequam got along great with Jerry and loved to play around, so it hit her pretty hard at his passing. I remember seeing Nequam, as a Spearow, fly Jerry around to see places from the sky as a way to play around.
He took the spot Jerry left behind. They are very similar in attitude (both being Quirky in nature) so it makes things easier to move on since Jerry's passing. Being silly during play times just like Jerry was. Nequam can't fly with Doom in her Talons, but she will follow Doom down holes he makes. Doom-Mole seems to be enjoying himself.
I began the Nuzlocke challenge on Pearl today. Here's the story so far:
Chapter 1: An Unexpected Beginning
I bounded down the stairs, skipping the last few steps on the stairs. "Barry just called, he said he wants to meet you at his house," my mom said. She was watching a Pokemon Contest on TV, while simultaneously shovelling popcorn into her mouth. Total contest junkie.
Before I could even knock on the front door of Barry's house, he blasted out the door and crashed on top of me. "Oh, Lucas, you're here. Listen, you saw the Red Gyarados doc didn't you? Let's go to Lake Verity and find one!" I didn't want to spoil his fun, by saying that there would be any such Pokemon in Lake Verity, so I agreed. We entered the quiet lake vicinity and overheard a girl and an old man talking as they walked by us. He was a professor or something. Barry stared, and then ran to the lake's edge as soon as they disappeared in the trees.
"Hey Lucas! Look" I walked over, and saw that he had a briefcase laying open infront of him, with three Pokeballs in it. Then it happened. Two Starly's dive-bombed out of thin air and started swarming us. We had no choice. I grabbed a Pokeball and threw it, and out came a Piplup.
We were both able to defend ourselves, with a Piplup and a Turtwig. Then the girl showed up, and she looked very angry. She asked if we used the Pokeballs, and when we answered yes, she looked like she could of fainted. With the briefcase in hand, she ran off. We followed her, and came face to face with ther old man. He looked menacing. When we told him what happened, he softened up. He told us to come to his lab.
So the girl turned out to be named Dawn, and the old man was Professor Rowan, the famous Sinnoh professor. Barry and I got our Pokemon that we used as gifts. That means I got my first partner, Dartz, the Piplup. I called my mom via videophone and told her what I was going to do. Rowan assigned us to be Pokedex researchers, and of course, with Pokemon, become the next Pokemon league champion. She said I will become a new person on my journey, and I'll face many victories and hardships. I knew about life and death, and I knew would I could face. Or did I?
Dawn showed me around Sandgem. Barry left to Jubilife City right away. We exited to route 202, where Dawn showed me how to catch a Pokemon. She then left towards Jubilife City. Seemed easy enough. I walked further up the path and found a Starly. I sent out Dartz, and followed Dawn's orders. I threw the Pokeball. Shake one, two, and three! Yes! My second Pokemon, Farore the Starly! After some training to get Dartz and Farore to be able to live for more than one battle, Dartz learned Bubble, and Farore learned Quick Attack and Wing Attack. Awesome! After shredding through some innocent Pokemon, I finally arrived in Jubilife City.
To be continued...
Dartz (Piplup) - Level 11
- Bubble
- Pound
- Growl
- Water Sport
Started this challenge again and I just beat Mars in Windworks Valley. I honestly thought she was going to be a game ender with her Purugly, fortunately it gets OHKO down to a +3 Atk Overgrowth Razor Leaf, with a Negative Attack Nature. I can't wait to get to Cheryl so I can get everyone to at least 20 before Gardenia.
Active Team
Zurg (Grotle) -Lv 18
Air Strike (Staravia) - Lv 14
Crazy Dave (Zubat) - Lv 13
Lady Gaga (Kricitune) - Lv 12
NoCopyRite(Buizel) - Lv 7
Boxed Mon
-Magikarp
-Geodude
-Starly
The only one I can honestly see using is Magikarp, gonna get me a Gyarados instead of use Buizel.
I have noticed some things though:
-Poison moves now have a 100% poison rate.
-If you spam Fury Cutter and your opponent has Growl, they will spam Growl to for the rest of the battle. It has happened to me 3 times already.
I hauled myself up the stairs and into the city. Bright lights immediately shot down onto me like I was being questioned for killing somebody. I went from being tired to being awake, and feeling the surroundings around me. That's a bad thing. People on street corners, screams from dark alleys, and the constant rush of people moving along the sidewalks. Immediately I went to the Pokemon Centre and healed. I asked the nurse for directions to the Pokemon Trainer's School. I totally forgot about the errand, but then the parcel struck me. Deep into my back from my pack.
I wandered the streets of Jubilife for awhile. Being from a small town, I'm not use to many people spouting nonsense and gibberish. One guy asked me if I wanted to join a group. What the hell? He probably ment cult. Finally I found the trainer's school and went inside. It was small, but there was still people in it. It was dark outside though. Flunkies? Surely enough, Barry was there. I gave him the damn parcel that was weighing me down. I t had a bunch of crap in it for him, and two Sinnoh maps. He gave me one. Good. I needed one. Barry told me to challenge the two little kids in the corner to a battle, and I'd get something good. So I did. One Abra for Dartz, and one Abra for Farore. They gave me the Hidden Power TM. I may need it one day.
Leaving the school grounds, another psycho caught up to me. He looked like a businessman. He gave me instructions on a campaign to get a Poketch. I've seen those on TV. They look useful. I had to have one. Wandering the streets again, I found the three clowns I was supposed to find. They asked me ridiculously easy questions to get a ticket. More street wandering, and I found the man again. He gave me a nice jet blue Poketch. Nice to be able to tell time now.....oh god, it's late. I need to get back to the Pokemon Centre.
I woke up bright and early to leave this city and move on. The rush of people was still going on. I left north of the city and caught a Kricketot, but I figured it would have no use. I pulled out my map. Crap, wrong way. I maneuvered to route 203, and met Barry again. Battle time! Dartz vs. Starly. Bubble! Bubble! Bubble! KO. He switched in Turtwig. I recalled Dartz and sent out Farore. Wing Attack! Dead. That was easy. Barry said he was going to Oreburgh. That's where the first gym is, duh. Route 203 was a nice training ground. I could of caught another Starly, but that was killed with a crit. I reached the end of a route and found a cave, called Oreburgh cave. How fitting. I entered inside. It was dark, but there was still some light from the entrance, and a small amount from the exit wayyy over. Sunddenly a screeching sound filled my ears. It sounded like a banshee and flew around me like a bat out of hell. I commanded Farore to knock it down. It was a Zubat. It could be useful. I threw a Pokeball and caught it. My third team member, which I called Keeter. I sent out Keeter to use it's instincts to lead me out of the dark cave that goes straight ahead. If anybody pops out of the darkness, I will strangle you...
To be continued
Dartz (Piplup) - Level 14
- Bubble
- Pound
- Growl
- Water Sport
-I go to Route 5 and catch a Meowth, which I’m just going to use as a Pick Up farmer. I swap out Mike the Pidgeotto for it.
-Route 6 I encounter another Pidgey. I grind here a bit to even out my party’s levels, which gives Apophis Glare (finally a status inducer), Sam the Pidgeotto Whirlwind, Buzzy Twinneedle, and Scout evolves into Raticate.
-Clean out the SS Anne except Gary and go catch Bottles the Digglet.
-Time to fight Gary. I lead with Apophis, but a critical hit leaves him with low health, so I switch to Sam who proceeds to wipe out the rest of the team with Gust/Quick Attack. The EXP Apophis gained let him evolve to Arbok.
-Bottles cleans out the minor trainers in the gym. 3HKOs Surge’s Voltorb due to low Magnitudes, and so get hit by Screech and Sonic boom, leaving him at ~50%. Then Pikachu kills with a Quick Attack. Buzzy the Beedrill takes revenge with Twinneedle KOing both Pikachu and Raichu, shrugging off Shock Waves thanks to a surprisingly high SpcDef.
-I go snag Flash and Old Amber, catch a Spearow on Route 11, then head back to Cerulean.

(Emerald) Well two days ago I died to Brawley. But now Im back and My teams looking good. Got lucky and snagged a ralts and a Wingull. However Wingull (Gulfy) is no longer with us thanks to Nosepass and Ralts passed away during a battle with May. We're still going strong on Dewford though with Combusken (Pecksly), Gigganox (Dustox) and Taillow (Flappsies) as my main mons and Whismur (Whiffle), Tentacool (Jelli), and Zubat (Edward) as fill in for now.
Tried to do a comic. Not so hot the first time but I'll probably type out my full story and attempt to do a comic again when I finish or get further in. Grinding time!!
To all those HG/SS players out there: what's your policy on the Pokewalker? Two days ago I would have said 'never', but after losing my entire team to the Kimonos I'm seriously reconsidering that policy. So far I've come up with three possibilities:
1. One Pokemon per route. It must be the first Pokemon you see, so you'd better catch it!
2. One Pokemon for the entire Pokewalker.
3. Don't give up! You don't need some stupid 20 gram hunk of plastic to salvage your dream of becoming a Pokemon master!
What do you guys think? Even if I don't use to catch Pokemon, I'll probably just drop my Dratini in there, since it levels up retardedly slowly.
Not quite a full update, I have arrived at indigo plateau. I didn't think that the kimono girls would be difficult, but that espeon got in a lucky critical psychic on tesla the magneton dealing over 50 percent damage killing tesla. R.I.P tesla, you will be difficult to replace. I caught ho-oh with the master ball and placed him in my box of unusable pokemon. In victory road I added another addition to the unusable box, a shiny golbat. I'm happy to have my second shiny in the 4th generation. Still have a lot of training to do until the elite 4.
Has anyone else gotten a shiny in a nuzlocke challange? If so what did you do with it?
Redyoshi, I've gotten three shinies over two Nuzlockes on Heart Gold.
In my first one i got a Sunkern and Nidoran girl, and in my current challenge, i recently got a shiny graveler. I just catch them and put them in a unusable box, then will check out their ivs once i finish the challenge :)
Anyways, for my Soul Silver Scramblocke challenge, im still grinding all my Pokes to lv.70 and Magnezone to lv.75, who is currently at lv. 70ish.... been playing Emerald recently so havent been doing much :/
Mini-update on my recently rediscovered Platinum run:
Trained up Legion the Porygon, evolving to Porygon2 at lv. 35 and PorygonZ at 45. His Adaptability Hyper Beam OHKO'd a Magneton 2 levels higher than him... Garchomp last resort, here I come? Also, I want to slap some Specs on him and Hyper Beam some poor, ignorant Breloom in the face.
About to fight Volkner after grinding the team to 47 and got a bunch of final movesets for my team.
The Team:
I got a usable Shiny Rash Gengar in my Diamond Nuzlocke. :D Served me well until it died to a surprise Psychic from Cynthia's Lucario after Focus Blast missed. ;_;
