If they would make IVs so you didn't have to RNG them to get them perfect, I'd buy two games just to show my appreciation to gamefreak. It's ridiculous that under normal circumstances you have about a 1 in a million chance of getting a perfect pokemon before you even start leveling it up.

What are the chances when you're born you have the natural ability (or potential in your genes) to run as fast as a professional marathon runner? It's not likely at all -less likely than a Pokemon with perfect IVs-, that's why the entire concept of IV's exist, to make it a little bit more real.

It's frustrating, because to remain competitive you almost certainly need near-perfect IV's to play against the better players, but I can completely understand why they're there and so hard to get good IVs.

I'm with Neato. Legendaries used to seem special, which was in part due to how relatively little their number was. Another reason was because they were all pretty much based on something mystical, legendary, or a piece of folklore (usually Japanese or Chinese). With Gen IV we had the introduction of legendaries like Shaymin and Heatran, who don't really seem to be based on anything, and this IMO kind of cheapens the "legendary" tag. Nothing about them really seems "legendary".

Heatran was born along with the volcanoes; IIRC, it was said that a Heatran is born in the core (?) of a volcano along with it. So, it's like it "controls" the volcano.

And Shaymin can change the landscape of any place by making grass and flowers flourish. Like, instantly. That's as legendary as purifying the waters (Suicune).

To me, the fact that a person under normal circumstances can't get a pokemon to be as good possible when there's already gender, nature, species, level, EVs and shinies making pokemon unique is just silly. IVs arn't even visible to the player.
Sure, it's realistic, but why should a game where ten 10 year olds go across the world catching giant monsters and using them to save the world be realistic? Fun should be the only concern.

I swear I wish I could remember where I heard Heatran was born in the lava and stuff from when Arceus was creating Palkia and Dialga. I swear I remember hearing that from an official source. Like in the game somewhere. I just don't remember where.

Yeah, Heatran basically controls his volcano. I always assumed this was why removing the rock was a bad idea, it angered Heatran.
Shaymin can also purify polluted air.
As for everyone else...

Dialga, Palkia, & the three pixies were all seen as gods/dieties over Time, Space, Emotion, Knowledge, and that other one I can't remember due to their powers (special attacks of the former, the whole making you forget and stuff with the latter). Giratina sort of rules over antimatter and helps preserve balance with the Distortion World.

Cresselia can cancel out bad dreams & is overall a Pokemon version of the Sandman. Darkrai is basically the Boogeyman, causing nightmares just by being near him.. And both are in an eternal chase with each other.

Arceus has the whole "god/pangu" thing going on.

Regigias is based on some myth I think...uh...Atlas? Maybe? Or some (maybe Greek?) titan that moved continents.

Really the only ones I can't think of a legend behind is Manaphy & Phione. Checking the pokedex, apparently it can bond with any Pokemon. SO...I guess that's sort of a legendary trait.

I'm guessing that Phione is a legendary for the same reason Mewtwo is: they're related and came about via another legendary.

First of all, I laughed pretty hard at that penis joke. Second of all, I'm pretty sure those are Croagunk's teeth, not a mouthguard. In any case, you have to admit that there's no way in hell you would think of Croagunk as more of a fighting type than Vigoroth if you didn't know any better, yet he is and Vigoroth is not. I basically just picked random pokemon there, there are much better examples. How the hell is Gyarados more of a flying type than Venomoth?

I'm sorry to bring this up after it's been dead, but it has to be said. How can you NOT see the features we're all describing to you? Croagunk, in my opinion, is the Pokemon most stylized to look like a fighter. Yes, moreso than Hitmonchan. I never thought Vigoroth was a fighting type. At all.

An average player (aka an actual 10 year old) doesn't give half a fuck about IV breeding and shit yet he gets that warm feeling inside when his charizard outspeeds the enemy charizard by 30 stat points, even if he might not know (or even care) exactly why

I read a while back about a grass/steel poke? Where'd that rumour come from? It's not on any of the usual sites.

Edit: Nvm, on pokebeach. Durrrr

Looking at the new Serebii stuff, seeing the following types make me have the following reactions:

Ground-Flying: Hi, Gliscor again.
Water-Fighting: Poliwrath revamped?
Steel-Fighting: I always liked this combo ever since I saw Lucario.
Rock-Fighting: Wait... So Regirock with boxing gloves?
Grass-Fighting: If it gets spore its fucking breloom all over again.
Pure-Flying type: ABOUT FREAKING TIME no more neutral to fighting shit.
Dragon-Ice: Don't mess this one up.
Normal-Psychic: Immune to Ghost and regular to fighting. That's alright, I guess.
Bug-Steel: The steel bugs have always been coo- Wait, forgot Wormadam-S.
Ok, they've been pretty cool bar some exceptions.
Dark-Dragon: GYAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!...
Wait, weak to fighting, ice, dragon, and BUG?! I don't recall dragons ever being weak to bugs.

That's how I see it.

I see the features that could make him a fighting type, but fighting is a pretty vague word. I'll admit that was a pretty horrible example to choose, I said I basically picked 2 random fighting pokemon. I guess I should've stuck to the most extreme examples like Gyarados being a flying type.

It's basically a 50/50 chance of getting good IVs or getting bad IVs. For every kid with a warm feeling, there's a kid with the cold feeling of getting outsped. I don't see why that's any better than making every pokemon automatically perfect.

im calling bullshit on everything that isn't confirmed (including the starters)

so far, no one has any proof for anything. Who knows if this pokexperto guy is telling the truth or not? He could be just be spreading false information. People have done that in the past. The dark fighting seems like great typing, but i don't think its that thing, especially because before, pokexperto said that there would be no kangaroo pokemon (and that thing looks like a kangaroo to me). Isn't that one spider pokemon electric bug? Why do we have another spider pokemon with steel bug typing? There are two bug steel pokemon according to the pokexperto, but he lists three: the event pokemon, the bug in knight armor, and the spider. Also, if the three headed hydra thing is true, then wtf is Kibago? Is that just some random dragon type? It looks to me like the psuedo legendary, but it doesn't look like it's going to sprout another two heads. Also, what is that pokemon that was shown in the double battle with the mole, the sarcofigus, and the electric spider? Many things seem very un-gamefreak as well. A green spike ball with tentacles thats grass and steel? A clown with cinder blocks on its hands? That grass bug thing evolves into that weird bug thing? What is the weird plant that was seen at the daycare, and what are those cloud things? Also, how can there be no evolutions of pokemon from former generations? There is no way that Luvdisc and Mananbou are unrelated. There also seem to be a lot of things that don't add up with the pokexperto's posts. Where are Zorua and Zoruark's pokedex numbers? What about Victini? If Zorua and victini are event pokemon, and there are only three, then how about the bug steel thing, the water fighting thing, and the normal psychic thing?
For now, I'm not going to believe anything. i can wait a week to hear the truth when the game comes out.

I've essentially been thinking the exact thing that you have been. Those new Pokemon that Pokexperto spoke of sound absolutely ridiculous - especially the green spike ball that grows tentacles upon evolution! I also believe that the new starter evo's are fake - we have no real confirmation apart from the very slight hinting from that interview - and even then, it is very vague. My theory is that Pokexperto is using the upcoming release date as a timely event to release this 'info' now... in theory, stuff would be leaked by this point, however (correct me if I'm wrong) we didn't get so much vague info this early on in past generations. I'm waiting to see the only confirmed Pokes with ones that have not been spoken of yet on the release date.

However, I would like to point out that since past-generation Pokemon are not available until after some point far along in the game, Mananbou may be unobtainable until post-national dex, or otherwise, may be unable to breed a Luvdisc.

Im still hung over the starter evolutions. Especially Pokabu's. The coloring is very very weird. It looses the yellow on its nose and the evolutions have white feet claw things while Pokabu has black in the front and none in the back. And Pokabus tail seems more stylized than its "evolutions" but i guess thats not always the case: Infernape desnt have fire and chimchar does.
I also find it hard to believe that a pokemon with apendages evolves into a pokemon without apendages especially a goofy one like that

I wonder what the unifying physical factor will link the trio this time around.
I hope they'll be like the Regis (offensively speaking):

Water/Fighting= Special
Rock/Fighting= Mixed
Steel/Fighting= Physical

Also, sad that although there will be a pure Flying, no Poison-type legend.

So...I'm really the only one that figured out Heatran, the Lava Dome pokemon, was based off Dome Volcanos?

Eh. Odd.

Myself, I'm really thinking the fish isn't a luvdisk evo- at first glance it looked like it... but once the sprite came out, I started doubting it. It really isn't that heart-shaped.
Look for yourself.

I'm not entirely impressed with the legendary typings. They're good, but I'm seeing a lot of repeats here. The Ice/Dragon one sounds like the third main legendary right next to Reshiram an Zekrom, and will probably look really cool.

I'm not really holding my breath for it unless it's officially confirmed, though. I just can't trust any new information, not even from Serebii or Pokejungle and whatnot unless there's cold hard proof. Way to much controversy about.

I mean what they'll look like, not how they'll act.
The birds were...birds. The beasts, though arguments over just what they are will never end, are all quadraped dog/cat esque creatures with face adornments. The regi are all golems with braille on them. The pixies are floating blue dudes with two tails.

I agree with that. Pokabu's final evo does lose some key traits from the original Pokabu, and I can't imagine how Gamefreak will make it look decent in sprite form - its markings are quite intricate. Also, Mijumaru's final evo looks totally ridiculous, I see barely any resemblance between the two, despite the middle evo. I mean, you could tell in past generations that the starter logically would evolve into its final evo. And bipedal starters have yet to evolve into a quadruped.

One last note, I remember reading somewhere that Gamefreak tries to make the starters evolve into Pokemon with 4 arms/legs so that they may have a deeper movepool than other general Pokemon. Anyone know where I may have read that? The reason I bring it up is because of Tsutaja's final evo - it loses its arms and legs and becomes a snake/dragon...

Samurai-like pokés with an ancient shogum mask would be cool.

Are you still talking about the "real" starters? If you're not, then could link me a picture?

Also, did they bring back the first thread? I gained over 400 posts while I was gone.

Edit: Still hoping for Grass/Electric, Fire/Ground, and Water/Poison but I doubt it's gonna happen.

If by "real" you mean the ones from the pic leaked a few days ago, then yes. It's the evos that have been "confirmed" by Serebii.

Edit: Yeah, my post count very recently jumped from 45ish to 60ish, and I just noticed too.

I think you mean Grass/Fighting. The Water/Fighting isn't part of the Trio. And I'd say it should be
Grass/Fighting=Special
Rock/Fighting=Physical
Steel/Fighting=Mixed

Rock/Fighting is such an amazing offensive typing, it gains absolutely nothing by wasting it's BST on a high special attack stat, plus Rock Types are almost always physical, it just needs speed.
And a Rock move better than Stone Edge maybe.

It's awesome that we may finally be getting Fighting Legendaries, though I always thought we'd end up with a Dragon/Fighting Psuedo. And I think the Samurai with Stylized Shogun Masks would be cool, maybe even make them similar to centaurs too since they're apparently "roamers."
