from my experiences (up to 4th gym):

Tsutaja / Jynobi - pretty weak as Tsutaja, when it evolves it's... still pretty weak. doesn't seem very useful so far.

Hiyappu / Hiyakki - Hiyappu obviously trashes the first gym but seems pretty weak until you evolve it with a water stone (in Hiun City, before the 3rd gym), then it becomes pretty powerful.

Nageki - destroys the second gym if you level it up to 17 (gets Vital Throw). has Seismic Toss which works wonders for catching wild pokemon. despite mine being Bold it's damn powerful.

Dangoro - thought it would be shit but it gets Headbutt and Rock Blast and is insanely strong for a little rock thing. probably more useful than Geodude due to the upgrades to Sturdy - if you switch it in on full health it will always get a shot off. slow, and no ground attacks unfortunately, but good.

Miruhoggu - i accidentally didn't learn Crunch which pissed me off, and Minezumi is pretty weak, but Hypnosis is very helpful and this thing is sorta fast.

Haderia - surprisingly good for an early game pokemon. it's a 10x better Mightyena really (and it still has to evolve again). strong and fast and with decent defences.

haven't really used anything else, though i'd say the game is far more suited to training up one pokemon to a really high level over the course of one route then taking on the gym rather than training up a party of 6 evenly. 6 mons aren't going to be much help when you get to the gym and everything is 2-4 levels higher than you...

Regarding Tsutaja: Obviously he isn't the best offensive Pokemon. However with his bulk would it be possible to simply boost yourself several times and then sweep?

I picked up the mole, Morguryuu, before the 2nd gym. With 85 attack and 68 speed, and the ability to pick up Rock Smash (tm 94), he seems like he'd be quite good, especially after he evolves.

Were the heck did you find Morguryuu? I must obtain him for future usage @.@

Gonna start playing in bit, and try checking out the other pokes in the area. Alot of them seem to be conviently appearing based on the current gym, such as the construction worker looking pokemon around the 2nd gym.

The early game dog is amazing early game, though gets less useful once you get to midgame. the fire monkey prevo you find in the desert is near broken. even as a prevo it ohko's nearly everything with fire punch/thrash/flareblitz until it evolves into the base 140 atk monster. The final evo is very bulky for ingame, very fast at 95 speed, and ohko's pretty much everything. he's like the r/b/y alakazam of ingame

Noting that Shinpora is really impressing me. Take a slight detour in Resort Desert, catch one, and start tearing things up with that good SpA, Psybeam, and 97 Speed right away. The 72/80/80 defenses and Magic Guard are certainly handy, too.

I've been using Dageki a bit, and I like it. Double Kick from 125 Attack at the second Gym? Yes please! And 85 Speed outruns almost everything at that point... It's rare, but if you find one use it.

I didn't know it was rare. I encountered a few, and caught one. It's currently my "If all else fails, use it to win." pokemon.

It's 5 in the morning (ololol), but I'll post a couple more mons:

- Croc seems okay. Dig comes quick enough so it gets Dual Stab. Not sure on what else to say. I'd say both its abilities are useful overall. It's quick too, which you can't frown on.

- Darumakka is ridiculous. Hustle AND 90 base Atk? Holy shit. This dude almost feels like HGSS Scyther. Almost.

Only up to the first gym so far, but I must say that the doggy is incredible so far. Gains ridiculous experience, excellent movepool, bulky, I can't see this guy slowing down quite yet.

I'll add more once I catch some more Pokemon <_<

Holy crap.

I found a blue fighting guy on Route 4 and he blazed through my team with Double Kick while I tried to catch it. It's got 125 base attack and 75/75/75 defenses, plus 85 speed. I don't know how it will fare later in the game but for now it looks amazing.

The mole and it's evo are also amazing. Earthquake and Rock Slide are learned really early by lv up, and you get tm x scissor around the time you catch it too. Very strong, but not as strong as the fire monkey with 140 atk and encourage.

Just as Tabunne can be found in unusual moving patches of grass, so Moguryuu can be found in any cave, including the first one with Team Plasma, inside clumps of sand that suddenly pop up.

I also picked up Shinporaa, and it is one of the most reliable members of my team.

I'd rate Haderia, the fighting type guys, and Shinporaa pretty high up. The mole was a usable ground type until he evolved at 31.

Even after evolution, I'm still contemplating replacing my zebraika with the electric lamprey.

Edit: The dark fighting lizard is not bad too. Its payback usually kos whatever hit it first.

Been playing some; Meguroko and Hihidaruma's pre-evo have been fantastic members of my team. I'd put Hihidaruma's preevolution in higher than god tier personally, the guy starts with Fire Fang, gets Fire Punch early, and boosted with Encourage dishes out OHKOs to at level Pokemon of neutral typing.

So far, after picking it back up today since I had time, I had been grinding up Moguryuu, and Otakome (I believe that's it's name. It's the pre-evo for the new pert pokemon). So far, it's been a slight choir boosting both of them levels, but they'll definitely become amazing if I continue to level them. Also, my grassy monkey has yet to fail me! Once it hits 22 and learns seed bomb, I'll evolve it, allowing it to only miss out on a few moves here and there. My Fire pig is also still proving to be amazing in conjuction with my money, with it being 21 as of now.

edit- My fire pig did the same thing to Aloe's entire gym with arm thrust.

It's been said, but Choroneko is awful. I'm currently wandering around the second gym trying to find this secret staircase (help plox), everyones' pokes are lvl 17+ and mine are 14 max. My team is Mijumaru/Yorterrie/Shimama/Koromori/Baoppu/Munna. Just off to do a huge amount of grinding. I'm not very happy with the game so far, in making it more challenging, GF have made it necessary to do hours of grinding before every gym. It really seems like overkill to me.

EDIT: In box, I have Tabunne, Choroneko, Mamepoto and Minezumi. Should I grind any of these up?

Just do what I did, go to the route left of the second gym's city and find a fighting type. There's a brown one that's the equivalent of Machop, a red one with 120/100/85/30/85/45 stats and a blue one with 75/125/75/30/75/85 stats. Any of these is good for the gym.

Darumakka should definitely get a nod for the high tier. It has good speed, good bulk, evolves at a reasonable level, and has access to the best physical Fire moves in the game (Fang, Punch, and quickly Flare Blitz), backed by Encourage. 140 base attack, Flare Blitz (yes, it's boosted to 180), Close Combat. It's amazing, and can 2HKO most Pokemon that resist Fire with Flare Blitz.

You really don't need all those though. Level up mijumaru to 17 (shell blade + evolve) and Yorterri to level 16 (evolve) and you'll have an easy time. Get Dageki and darumakka asap and you'll rape the whole game for a very long time.

just got my hitomoshi :) will rape ice gym + psychic/ghost elite four now :)

does anyone know where i can pick up ice beam? would come in handy for dragon gym

^ superpower not close combat btw

I normally tend to lurk Smogon, but I thought I'd give it a shot and post something about B/W in game.

Anyway, these are my two Pokedollars on what I've used and tried so far. Do note that I'm currently at Raimon City (4th gym), so my opinions may vary since I've only played mostly during the early game and I'm getting into the mid game.

Tsutaaja - Pretty mediocre from what I've tried. He's rather speedy and has high defenses, but that's really it for him. If his final form didn't look so damn awesome, I wouldn't have chosen him.

Yooterii - Powerful early game, but he does lose some of his usefulness until you get Strength. Still a recommended catch.

Choroneko - I really, really, really tried to use him. However, I ditched him when I realized that he just kept leeching off exp from the party. Not to mention, it's frail and is stuck with Pursuit until 44 for Night Slash. Don't bother training it unless you have some major balls.

Hiyappu - Slow to level, and it got outclassed by the water tadpole you get at the second gym. The grass and water ones are probably the only good ones, since the fire one doesn't start with a fire move like its brothers.

Mamepato - Stuck with using Air Cutter which come out its lesser special attack and doesn't even learn any physical flying moves. Not recommended.

Shimama - Very squishy, but if you managed to level it properly, it becomes pretty good with Shock Wave and Nitro Charge.

Otamaru - Awesome water pokemon until you get it to the 20s, where it starts to lag a bit until it evolves. Bubblebeam early on is pretty awesome. Not to mention, he's like the only water pokemon barring Mijumaru and the sea turtle.

Nageki - Holy hell, this guy is a beast. He's very bulky and dishes out some major damage. He single handily took out Aloe despite my other pokemon struggling with her. Him and his brother are recommended catches despite your version.

Dangoro -> Gantoru -> Gigaiasu: A (very) slow Rock-type with high Attack and Defense. Rock Blast did great damage early on, especially against the bug gym, but it's fairly ineffective late game as it moves after everything else and has poor SpDef. My experience with it might have improved if I could trade to get Gigaiasu, but I doubt it. High tier initially, low tier later on.

Shinpora: A Psychic\Flying type found in the desert at the same time Darumakka is found. Its great SpAttk and Speed (~100 base) means Air Cutter and Psybeam do pretty good damage. It's pretty helpful late game too; I found Psychic and Air Slash 1-2HKO'd just about every Pokemon in the Dragon gym, which had resisted most of my teammates' STAB attacks. High tier.

Darumakka\Hihidaruma: Plenty of discussion on this one already. Definitely high tier.

Churine\Doraida: If you're playing White, she's a far better Grass-type for this game than the Tsutarja line, which I ditched around L20. Gets good enough speed (90 base) far better SpAttk, and Sleep Powder to boot. Its only real drawback is not getting good non-Grass attacks. Giga Drain gives it surprising staying power, and combined with Growth lets it sweep teams, even against Grass resists. Mid-high tier.

Gamageroge: Very versatile. I'm using a set of Surf\Dig\Drain Punch\Grass Knot, which makes it easy to level up against many different trainers. Also gives it a lot of PP for those extended missions when you're away from a PokeCenter for a while. Doesn't have a lot of raw power, though, but it usually makes up for it by being able to hit weaknesses. High tier.

Okay I'm going to list my opinions here, I'm right before the 4th gym and all my pokes are level 25. I'm just going to post about the pokemon I've tried out and placed them in a tier following this thread's model. Note that I have not had a full experience with the game yet so I'm not exactly the expert but as far as I have seen my opinions are valid.

Wotter: Top tier. He slows a bit right before evolving and learning Shell Blade but after that he keeps pumping out. He learns Fury Cutter naturally and having a Bug attack for those pesky Psychics and Darks without actually being a Bug type (weak to everything) is a huge plus. Also learns Water Pulse so you have both physical and special STAB just in case.

Yorkie Dog: High tier. Once he learns Take Down he 2HKO's or OHKO's everything, AND learns Bite or Crunch for a Dark-based alternative, making him essentially a battering ram. The problem is that afterwards he gets no other good moves later on

Fire Monkey: Lower Mid. Good for clearing the first gym and the forest, but his fire STAB move is pitifully weak and he doesn't learn his 'good' STAB until level 22, and if you want him to learn a good moveset you have to wait and level him up before giving him a (easily available though) Fire Stone. The thing is, Darumakka/Hihidaruma is SO MUCH BETTER.

Rock thing: Upper Mid. He gets Headbutt, then Rock Blast to deal damage effectively and has insane defense. Ylou can get a Quick Claw to help his Speed but a special attack will shut him down. He loses his usefulness if you're not able to trade for his final evolution though.

Darumakka/Hihidaruma: Top tier. This guys is insanely strong. He gets good STAB attacks and both Hustle and Encourage later on boost his attacks. If it's not OHKO'ed it's 2HKO'ed. And he's not a glass cannon either AND he's readily available in the desert.

Electric Zebra: Lower Mid. He's easily available but not too strong, and has paper defenses. He just can't keep up, even after his evolution.

Blue stone fighter: Top tier. 125 Attack, 75/75/75 defenses and 85 Speed right off the bat beside the second gym's town. Very limited moveset-wise but whatever his STAB can hit will be severely damaged, and he can afford to take a lot of hits. Can fetch a spot on any team.

Pigeon: Low. Only gets special STAB, and his special attack is terribly low so he can't do much of anything. He's not a Staraptor no matter how hard you want him to be. There are better flying types, like Shinpora in the desert and the Rock/Flying fossil. Which leads me to...

Shinpora (weird desert bird thing): High to Top tier. I just got him and he's been ripping everything apart with STAB Psybeam and Air Cutter off his 103 special attack stat. Has good defenses and is quite speedy to boot, AND learns a variety of support moves, but ingame support isn't exactly viable.

Leaf caterpillar: Low Middle to Middle tier. Suffers from horrid typying but gets good STAB attacks, but unless you can make him happy enough to get to his (pretty good) final evolution he's not worth a spot on your team.

Cactus: Middle tier. Pretty much the same as the leaf caterpillar's middle evo minus the bug type plus Synthesis and absorbing attacks. If you're willing to evolve leaf caterpillar all the way don't consider this guy, otherwise he's better than leaf caterpillar.

might as well toss in my opinion again due to completing the game

Muurando: mid-high tier. surprised me with its usefulness late game. great if you have intimidate, still useful with sand power. rips through half of the elite four with Crunch, though there probably are better choices. movepool is... kind of shit but Strength is reasonably powerful along with Take Down and Cheer Up is a great boosting move.

Jaroda: once it gets Coil Up at level 38 and Leaf Blade, easily high tier... it's kind of bad until then. Coil Up is basically Curse without a downside and due to Jaroda's reasonable bulk (probably helped that mine had an Impish nature), very high speed and the AI's reluctance to switch it's easy to stat up and sweep with +6 attack and defence.

Nageki (red judo guy): mid-high i'd say. takes hits well and Bulk Up is a great asset. its movepool is very restricted (i relied mostly on Vital Throw / Body Slam) but it hits hard so who cares?

Gantoru: i can agree that its usefulness greatly declines late game, i don't think i used it once against the elite four. relies on scoring 4-5 hits with Rock Blast to KO shit, at least until it learns Stone Edge at 49 at which point you have to worry about missing everything. high or possibly top tier early game, mid-low lategame.

Maggyo: BEST POKEMON EVER (it takes hits surprisingly well for a mud fish thing but attack wise it's very very weak. used it as a joke. i did manage to kill Zekrom with it which was pretty cool but who cares. i really don't recommend it.)

Hiyakki: Hiyappu is pretty weak and you need to evolve it ASAP or else it drags behind. unfortunately, then it's stuck with Water Gun and Fury Swipes as its attacking moves. if you stick with it until you get Surf it becomes much stronger though. mid tier?

thus concludes my tl;dr opinions. the game becomes much easier after you beat the 5th gym and get the lucky egg; since your pokemon gain more exp. you don't end up underleveled and the gym leaders aren't as hard.

Tiering my team now that the main quest is over. I'll update after I'm done finding the Sages.

Daikenki: High tier. A little slow around the second Gym, but once it evolves into Futachimaru it starts kicking ass and never slows down. Excellent mixed offenses and bulk are wonderful, and it has a good movepool with Surf/Dig/[physical Water move]/Slash.
Shinpora: God Tier. Comes relatively early, and starts destroying things with its STAB Psybeam and Air Cutter. Psychic/Shadow Ball/Air Slash make it an irresistible force.
Reshiram: Top tier. Comes crazy late, but at a high level. Tore through N/Geechis, and is very useful in finding the Sages.
Dageki: High tier. Best Pokemon in the game early on, but later on 85 Speed and 75/75/75 Defenses aren't nearly as impressive. Still, 125 Base Attack means a set of Close Combat/Dig/Vengeance/Rock Tomb will kill most of what you encounter.
Warubiaru: High tier. Comes early, has good typing and double STAB with Dig/Bite. Meguroco and Warubiru become a bit less useful a few levels before they evolve, but for most of their lifespans are very, very powerful. Lacks bulk, even with Intimidate.
Muurando: Mid-high tier. Very useful early on, but starts to dwindle around the Ice gym. Even then, a useful HM slave and a reliable, bulky physical attacker.
Kenhorou: Shit tier. Sucks when you catch it, evolves, is briefly useful, then resumes sucking more and more as you go on. Never actually evolved into its final stage; I ditched it around level 24, and kept it at the bottom of my party for death fodder and Fly until Reshiram showed up.
