Bonobos...perhaps our closest relatives

I got the idea for this thread when I saw the "sex" thread. Has anyone ever seen or heard of a bonobo?? I first learned about these strange (yet fascinating) creatures when I took an anthropology class last semester. These monkeys literally crave sex! Much of a bonobo's lifestyle involves having sex with other members of the group (even the children are involved in these activities). Apparently, sexual activities are how the bonobos strengthen their relationship with one another. As humans, we are extremely similar in that we simply can't get enough sex! It's no wonder that bonobos are one of our closest relatives.

Scratch that, I realise now that what I just said was a common myth. I'd have deleted my post if you hadn't been so quick to quote and respond to it :/

But it is true that it is uncommon for animals to mate frequently outside of mating season. The few species that do include humans, dolphins, and bonobos.

The other day at school a pair of mating dragonflies landed on one of my student's heads. The dragonflies stayed there mating on top of his head for most of the class, both the student and the insects ignoring each other completely.

I was more shocked that dragonflies can mate while flying.

What Vineon said. While it's true that some humans have a high sex drive, not all do, and it's rare to find a group of humans as promiscuous as bonobos are reported to be.

If you want to see some very sex-driven males:

1. Take a tank
2. Put in 5 male guppies
3. Put in 1 female guppy

I bet the female dies within a month from over-stress from too many sexual advances

Dragonflies do everything while flying. Most cannot walk. Some cannot even stand, their legs only letting them hang from branches and leaves at an angle.

If you keep the nymphs, they also quickly learn that you bring food to them and start snapping around when you show up. You can train them as attack dragonflies.

Wait.. what? O.o

I'm not sure if that student had to be either extremely hygienic or not hygienic at all for that to happen...

Do dogs do random hook-ups too? I'm pretty sure I was sort of weirded out a long time ago because when I had a yorkie 8 years ago and I walked him in the park he met a female yorkie and I'm pretty sure they did it.. there in the park only after a few minutes of staring at each other. Maybe I was too immature to remember correctly.
