Ask a simple question, get a simple answer - mark 24 (READ THE OP)

If you only have speed, then you could just do 252 EVs, or at least keep going until Carbos doesn't do anything. That way you will know that they are full. If you are going for a number less than 255, though, then that won't work and you will have to.

Athenodoros- Carbos stops working once you have 100EPs right? So how would I be able to tell if it was or wasn't doing anything? (The Lucario I'm working on atm is only lvl 12) I am going for 252.

You can get a maximum of 100 with Carbos, but when you get those 100 is up to you. If you have 179, for instance, you would be able to give Luke 8 Carbos (If you hadn't given it any yet) and then it wouldn't take any more, so you would know that it had 100 Speed EVs or 510 EVs overall.

Am I right in thinking the only legal Arceus are neutral natured?

I believe it was random natured, but you can definitely get natures like Timid and Jolly.

I was wondering if there was any competitive value in the 'Eruption Heatran' from Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs. Obviously, you'd want to build a set around Eruption that can utilize it's slower Quiet Nature, but I was wondering if anyone has a set they've already made for it. I tried just searching the forum, but it keeps coming back with an error rather than a result. So, any help?

pokemon event legitimacy

welcome smogon community.

is there any way to find out that an event pokemon such as the latios/latias received from the enigma stone was legitimatly received from the wondercard or if someone has just aquired the stone through the use of an action replay device.

is there a difference between an action replay enigma stone used to aquire the pokemon or the actual wondercard obtained from the event.

Eruption Heatran only comes in Quiet, which reduces Speed. This is not ideal as Eruption works best when you have full HP, and lower Speed means Heatran is going to get damaged first before it can attack, resulting in a weaker, unreliable Eruption. If you're going to use it, give it the standard Choice Scarf set to patch up its Speed, and use Eruption in place of Fire Blast or Hidden Power/Dragon Pulse.

Can I use an Adamant nature for a Scarfed Jirachi?

http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/jirachi

Yes, but then you're missing out on the point of Scarfrachi, which is mainly to revenge stuff. Without a Jolly nature, it won't be able to reliably revenge kill DDnite, DDGyara, and Scarfgon.

It just seems like 299 attack is pretty weak for a revenge killer, despite it's amazing coverage. Would you recommend it over say, Choice Scarf Zapdos (which I'm also considering)?

You don't need much power if you're a revenge killer, as your main job should be KOing weakened sweepers. Jirachi gives better type coverage, is SR resistant (but at the same time takes Spikes damage), and can always Iron Head flinch.

So I'm about to win the 8th bagde in SS and Im already thinkin about my wi fi battle team. It should be like:

- Snorlax nature Impish hold Leftovers (Found while playing) Rest, Sleep Talk, Bodyslam, Whirlwind

- Nidoran nature Timid hold Life Orb (Route 25) Earth Power, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Toxic

- Larvitar nature Jolly hold Lum Berry (Safari Zone - Mountain) Crunch, Stenght, Dragon Dance, Rock Slide

- Lapras nature Modest hold Life Orb/Leftovers (Safari Zone, Union Cave) Ice Beam, Surf, Thunderbolt, Toxic

- Trapinch nature RASH/NAIVE hold Life Orb (Safari Zone - Desert) Draco Meteor, Earthquake, FIre Blast, U-turn

- Beldun nature Adamant hold Lum Berry (Safari Zone - Forest) Stealth Rock, Meteor Mash, Bullet Punch, Explosion

Is it gonna be really hard to obtain all of them like that? I will only EV train them, I wont be considering IVs, since Im not just that geek. Am I wrong? What do you guys think?

Just a bit curious, but I have a question concerning the move Charge. Say you spam Charge & boost up your Special Defence Stat, then you decide to use up the boosts by using an Electric type attack. The question is, after charging up & using an Electric Type attack, alongside the Charge boosts, does the Special Defence boosts gained from Charge go away as well? Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure where to post this, but anyway:

The UU/BL/OU cutoff is based off a percentage (3.41% is OU).
However, this hasn't been updated for a long time because Shoddy Battle stats haven't been there since August. However, seeing as Pokemon Online is now the official simulator, shouldn't we be using those stats?

If we use the January 2011 stats:

@Tomahawk9

We are still in the process of conducting OU suspect tests, it's impossible to know which Pokemon will be UU / BL until the OU metagame settles down, which won't be a while yet. If the OU environment is constantly undergoing dramatic changes then there's no point in establishing a UU tier yet.

EDIT: oh you're talking about gen 4, maybe refer to that in your post???? just a thought

No. It's like Skull Bash.

I think that with gen V starting, gen IV has been left behind to the extent that the metagame is essentially being frozen. The tiers are thus frozen at the moment (admittedly due to lack of interest in gen IV at the moment). It is much like the way we don't update tiers in ADV any more. Remember that people tend to play OU in past generations, and OU is not changed by statistics.

When using a rain team, you need to be 99.9% sure that you'll set up the rain every time, or you're just using a bunch of Pokemon with shared weaknesses and similar type coverage for no reason. Ludicolo and Toxicroak are typically used together, and for good reason: Ludicolo has pretty good bulk, can set up the rain, and can outspeed almost everything and smash face with Surf once the rain is set up, while Toxicroak can use Fake Out to flinch anything that might be threatening to Ludicolo (except Inner Focus users).

People don't just use OU Pokemon like Zapdos and Kingdra on rain teams because of their high base stat totals; they provide valuable resistances to the other members' common weaknesses, and they have enough bulk to switch in when they need to. Kabutops is the weak link here; the biggest reason to use rain teams is the ridiculous sweeping power of using two rain-boosted Surfs at once (or smashing your opponents with Surf while healing your own Water Absorb Pokemon), and Kabutops's poor bulk and unreliable secondary STAB don't make up for its inability to help that strategy. I'm not sure what to recommend if you're refusing to use Starmie, Suicune, Zapdos, Kingdra, and Empoleon; you could use Gorebyss for its power, but it only has a 2x resistance to Water (meaning you'll often kill it with Ludicolo's Surf; it's pretty poor in terms of Special Defense) and its pure-Water typing doesn't really provide much to your two leads, even if it does more than Kabutops' Water/Rock. As insane as it sounds, Lapras could work; it has decent bulk (ignoring its Rock and Fighting weaknesses, but the BL restriction doesn't offer much that resists those while making good use of the rain), has Water Absorb, and can make good use of Surf, Thunder, and Ice Beam. Of course, it's very slow, but you take what you can get. That gets rid of one of your Ground weaknesses, and without being able to use Zapdos (whose Ground immunity is one of its main selling points on Rain teams), that's about the best I can come up with. You'll appreciate Ludicolo's Ground resistance, at least, and hopefully you'll outspeed and quickly KO most Earthquake users.
Gonna reply with a list of points:
  • Ever thought that maybe people don't always want to make OU teams?
  • Kabutops is far from the weak link. I run an unorthodox set (Rock Slide and Aqua Tail with a Wide Lens) and it wrecks stuff GOOD
  • I'd need a new Toxicroak for Fake Out. What would this hypothetical new Toxicroak do after Fake Out? It's kinda weak (or is that just mine?)
  • I can't see anywhere to put Rain Dance on my Ludicolo. Leech Seed seems to be the best choice to drop for it though
  • Lapras could work. I faced one on PBR wi-fi with this team and it had me worried. Beat it though (hilariously it was a rain team and we both counted on having each other starting the rain. Neither of us did)
Keep in mind I only really play on PBR and in the Battle Frontier, although I'd like to battle a friend if/when I manage to get a full squad of six.

up.

@Tomahawk9: PO server's metagame is different from ours, meaning that they'll have different usages. When we get up server stats, it's possible but not likely that we'll update the tiers due to the concentration on 5th gen.
