In-Game Tier List Discussion

Darmanitan learns Fighting moves, so I don't think the Afrobull's gonna be a problem. Most Water types can learn Ice moves, which is good against the Hydreigon, so I guess I'll go for a Water type.

The one Ice TM you get is Blizzard, so have fun relying on shit 70 accuracy.

Especially with no Snow Warning users ingame.
ah shit. Not that many options then. I originally wanted Haxorus, but looking at the tier list I figured it'd come extremely late and be hard to train, which is why I ended up not picking it.

However, I haven't played the game at all, so I might be wrong. What do you experienced players say?

Haxorus comes right after you get Surf(which, IIRC, is when you beat Fuuro, then beat Cheren at route 7.)

It's off in a cave on route 6(the route from 5th gym town to Electric Rock Cave) which requires Surf to access. You can get Cobalon there too, so having the 7th/8th gyms strong against Axew is not even a problem.

(READ: EXP. Share Axew while Cobalon roflstomps the 7th and 8th gyms)

You get Axew as soon as Surf (sixth badge? can't remember now), it comes at level 30-31, learns Dragon Dance at level... 32, evolves at lv38 into Fraxure, learns Swords Dance at lv48 and then evolves into a 147 Atk / 97 Speed monster which can also learn Brick Break, Shadow Claw and X-Scissor to do however it pleases against the E4.

It's a high-to-top-tier pokémon in my opinion. Actually, if you get one Dragon Dance against Ghetsis's pokémon (except for Hydreigon), I guess you win the game right there lol. Its only problem is leveling it up a bit, but then you already have Exp. Share and Lucky Egg IIRC.

+1 Haxorus kills Hydreigon fairly easily, providing his Cofagrigus didn't manage to stall you to death first. Mienshao and Galvantula have a pretty easy time too. Other than that... good luck. O_O

And as for Bouffalant, again, Mienshao murders it, but even at +2 or +3 Haxorus can't kill it. =/ A Ferrothorn resists its entire moveset if you can be bothered to train one, though.

My Mienshao(dont know the Atk stat) failed to kill that bull with a HJK.

You probably failed and got one with shit Atk IVs and a -Atk nature.

Also training Axew is not a problem. He's only lagging a few levels behind your party, and you get Cobalon(Fighting/Stl legend) in the same cave anyway. Cobalon destroys 7th gym while with the new exp. mechanics of gen 5, Axew actually gains MORE experience, making it easier to train him.

You get Surf for beating Cheren on route 7, which IIRC is only available upon beating Fuuro.

It's ridiculously easy to setup DD on Cofragrigus, then sweep. I recommend going the overkill path and going +6, since Afrobull somehow managed to survive a +3 Dragon Claw(once again, FUCK YOU QUIRKY FUCK YOU), Afro Broken Haxorus, survived on 1 HP, Geechisu used Full Restore. >_>

At least its still a dragon with Rayquaza's Attack.

Gotta see how CB Haxface destroys the subway with Outrage and Earthquake(unresisted coverage ftw except for Skarmory >_>)

How late does Shelmet come in-game? Assuming I could evolve by trade, would it take too much grinding to train it and Litwick (apparently they come around the same time) or should I just go with a Venipede which comes earlier for my bug type? :S

Funny you mentioned going overkill on the set up plan because I was thinking of using Exacdrill against him. The Mummy can't do shit against him what with him being immune to Toxic, resisted Shadow Ball/Psychic, and I'll eventually break through his Protect. An X-speed and a few Sword Dance later and this madman will be going down still Geechisu's dragon and bull do seem like pains in the ass to me.

@ TM13IceBeam & Mario With Lasers - Well, then I guess I have my final member!

What do you think of this in-game team (I always have a Main Team and a Reserve Team that I mix and match to get the best type advantages I can over Gym Leaders/Elite Four).

Main Team:

I can trade, so I can get Conkeldurr and Gigalith.

^ I must thank you for posting Timburr's epic animation. =D

Anyway, both teams look great, but the reserve team has a few hard-to-train Pokemon it it; Blitzle dies to everything, Roggenrola becomes hard to use late-game, and Yamask is just hard to train in general. But with perseverance it'll definitely be worth it.

Yeah, I don't mind working on training Pokémon because I enjoy grinding.

So, I could use some help building my Black team... I have the general idea for Pokémon I want to use, but I just haven't got a good feeling about it all...

Oshawott - I always pick the water type starter on my first playthrough. I just can't help it.
Pansear - Coverage, basically. Would probably end up dropping him in favour of Deerling or some shit.
Drilbur - Like his look, and Excadrill should be hilarious.
Sandile - Again, like the look, and MOXIE.
Gothita - Guess what I like about her? I like Psychics too, and I'm anxious to test Psycho Break
Klink - I was completely sold on this guy by the explanation by someone a couple of pages back. Jesus, on paper, he completely WRECKS from the 6th Gym onwards... And he looks awesome.

Others I have considered:

Woobat - Made of paper, but I adore the design, and its Japanese name (Koromori, bitches)
Lillipup - To ease the earlygame, but I'd probably end up dropping him...
Deerling - I mentioned him before, but the reasons I'd use him are for powerful Jump Kicks, Bambi references, and Wood Horn.

Any suggestions? It is highly unlikely I'll be able to trade...

Gothita only gets psycho shock, not break. Kling comes at a really low level, imo...
And Pansear is just ugh, those monkeys are terrible. They're good only for early game. D: I'd suggest you to stick to Chandelure / Darmanitan for a fire-type.

*facepalm* DAMN MY TIRED BRAIN! I meant Psycho Shock, of course. He does, but the EXP system, Lucky Egg etc. will make that easier.

I would really only use Pansear to make the early game easier, so Oshawott doesn't get roflstomped much. Darmanitan would probably my choice of the fires you mentioned, but I'm worried about how... Physically based my team is...

The only things that have given trouble to my otter were Pansage and Leavanny, so I think you could make better use of those exp points by letting other pokes take them. And yes, Return/Gear Saucer should do just fine to take out some Audinos for a crapload of exp.
Being a steel-type is amazing in this storyline, I think.
