Last Farewells (OU RMT - No Legendaries)

Hey everyone,

For some reason, I prefer 4th Gen over 5th so this will be my final team before I start playing Black and White.
This team was first built for Wi-Fi and I’m now looking for advice on fixing it. The general idea that started this team is the infamous move, U-Turn.
That being said, NO POKEMON HAS BEEN BRED YET, so I am willing to accept major changes!

Among my friends, we added other rules above the some of the typical clauses.

Additional Team Restrictions:
- No Legendary Pokemon

I do agree that lots of Legendaries are balanced, but it's just a rule for fun, and as long as it remains fun, that's why we're playing, right? :P

Starmie @ Life Orb
121.png

Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Grass Knot

Starmie was chosen because of its excellent coverage and its ability to take out many other leads. Surf and Thunderbolt give overall great coverage, and meanwhile Psychic takes out Lead-Machamps and Grass Knot takes out Lead Swamperts. After taking out a lead, Starmie can be saved for late game with Life Orb to punch holes in teams with its overall coverage. The EV set is a spread to maximize Sp. ATK and Speed.

Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
212.png

Trait: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Scizor is here as a revenge killer and a sweeper along with Stealth Rocks, it should do the job quite well. U-Turn allows for early game scouting while Pursuit is here to take care of Rotom forms, Gengar and Starmie. Superpower allows for a super-effective move against walls like Blissey. The EV spread used is the standard one to optimize HP and Atk.

Flygon (M) @ Choice Scarf
330.png

Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- ThunderPunch

The secondary scouter thanks to U-Turn. Flygon along with Scizor will be able to force switches and therefore inflict more residue damage on my opponent. Earthquake and Outrage are two excellent STAB moves for Flygon. Thunderpunch was chosen as the 4th move to take care of DDance Gyarados as Stone Edge has cost me too many games. EV spread revolves around Atk and Speed.

Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
260.png

Trait: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
- Ice Beam

With Scizor and Flygon forcing switches, it is logical to have Stealth Rocks set up to punish my opponent for when they switch. Swampert was chosen because of its good defences to reliably set up Stealth Rocks. After doing so, it can fair as a good wall to take hits and force switches. Waterfall and Earthquake were chosen for coverage and STAB. Ice Beam took the final spot to hit offensive dragons in addition to predicting grass switches. EV spread is based on HP and DEF.

Clefable (M) @ Flame Orb
36.png

Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Trick
- Softboiled
- Encore
- Seismic Toss

Clefable found its niche in this team because of Wonderguard. This ability allows me to predict status infliction and absorb it for the team. In addition, Trick and Encore are here to cripple other attackers and also force switches. Tricking Flame Orb onto a physical sweeper has saved this team many times. Clefable adds to the team defensively, in addition to contributing to scouting through its annoying attacks that potentially forces switches. EV spread focuses on survival through HP and Sp.Def.

Gyarados (M) @ Life Orb
130.png

Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Finally, I have Gyarados for a late-game sweeper. Gyarados was chosen as its weakness to Electric types is covered with Flygon and Swampert on the team. When Dragon Dance is set up in addition to Earthquake and Stone Edge, this Pokemon has the ability to tear through teams after all its counters are taken out through the rest of the team scouting. Although this seemed to be a good choice early on, Gyarados has always seemed to be countered (although I have trouble countering them myself). EV spread is used to maximize Atk and Speed.

Well, thank you for reading!
All comments are much appreciated.

Thanks again!

Quick rate: Scizor + Flygon checks alot of threats, but leaves you very vulnerable to defensive teams. In order to fix this, try out a Heatran and Breloom over Clefable and Swampert. Breloom wall breaks, while heatran gets up stealth rock and lures in Blissey. The sets:

Breloom @ Toxic Orb, 12 Hp / 252 Atk / 244 Spe Adamant w/ Spore / Focus Punch / Substitute / Stone Edge

Heatran @ Life Orb 6 Hp / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid w/ Fire Blast, Earth Power, Hidden Power Electric, (Taunt / Explosion)

Thank you for the suggestion!
I like the idea of getting a wall-breaker. Breloom is a very good candidate. In fact, I may consider replacing Gyarados.

Regarding your fixes, the only unfortunate thing is that Heatran is considered a legendary :(

In addition, so far I have been using Clefable as my wall-breaker (in a sense). Tricking Flame orb adds residual damage to any non-fire type Pokemon, thereby numbing major walls (with the added bonuses gaining Leftovers). Following, Encore forces switches or allows me to set up another Pokemon on a wall that is stuck with a healing move, etc. Clefable is also somewhat bulky on physical defences as well. My only concern is fighting moves, as Swampert will not be able to take that many Close Combats without a healing move itself.

I thought you meant legendaries like ho-oh or kyogre... Anyway one last thing to add: If fight moves are a problem you can always bulk up Gyarados a bit by running the taunt set or even the mono attacker. Gyarados is incredibly popular, so people have tons of checks for it, the key is to sweeping with it is not trying to set up on the first switch, as you will be met with a scarf rotom/flygon immediately. You can also try rapid spin on Starmie to make switching easier. Grass knot doesn't do much since lead Swampert is uncommon and already 2hko'd, so it could be very helpful.

I don't have much time, but something you might like to consider...

Rather than altering the structure of your team just to get around defense and stall, why not use a Calm Mind Clefable? It basically flat out destroys most stall, which can't touch it at all while it boosts. To me this looks like a much more valuable addition to your team than the Flame Orb variant.

First off, THANK YOU FOR NOT USING BLISSEY! Lol, it really can be annoying although on a balanced team you should have something to take it out. Once that is gone, in gen 4 (in any gen really) it is quite annoying which really adds to my rage-quit-meter.
Very good team, this makes resistances and counters for the counters on other teams (In english, a great core).
Because of this team really having to have no changes in the team itself i'll just be quick and to the point with the rate itself, so here we goooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Starmie Should Run: Timid nature, Ice beam over grass knot.
Scizor: Standard Scizor, and really nothing to change in gen 4 over it.
Flygon: In the last slot, test out Fire Blast for some coverage. On some teams, it is better than thunderpunch and it really just depends on opinion and personal success.
Swampert: Overall, it is a good set and you probably won't have to change that. A really good wall on your team and is effective.
Clef: This can be a good poke as well, really just destroying the ever common physical sweepers.
Gyarados: Should probably run adamant nature as to just destroy with more power. Good hyper offensive set.

GL with this, hope this helped!

I will test this change.

Actually, I haven't had many problems with stall and I don't plan on keeping Clefable in for a long time. Most times a player will switch out against Clefable after getting Encored (walls using 5 support moves in a row is no fun), and then that is when Tricking Flame Orb is valuable as they will most likely switch into an attacker that would check Clefable.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks! To be honest, I considered Blissey but Clefable really allows this team to function as it forces more switches thanks to Encore and Trick. Following, U-turn from other members also contribute to forcing switches. Blissey on the other hand just baits counters (which most players have as Blissey is so common).

Additional considerations:
U-Turn Infernape
U-Turn Gliscor lead

I am testing at the moment and am open to suggestions. Thanks again!
