Pokémon Black/White in-game discussion

Is anyone else really excited for the inevitable platform game? This game has allowed me to see that Pokemon games can be amazingly good instead of "just" Pokemon games. Hopefully they'll make a game that's a combination of Colosseum with a stand alone adventure mode and Pokemon Stadium with challenging stadiums and fun mini-games. Maybe the battle animations wont suck, either.

So I'm not the only one waiting for a Colosseum-like remake... I indeed hope there will be a new platform RPG like that. And this time with up-to-date animations, and a bit more stuff to do after finishing the storyline.

Something that I thought may support the idea of Gens 3/5 running simultaneously came from a Team Galactic member in N's Castle. He says something to the effect of "Team Rocket and Team Galactic were fools. They drew too much attention to themselves". This automatically places Gen 5 ahead of Gens 1, 2, and 4 because...well the exploits of those teams have already happened and are well-known even in the faraway land of Unova. You could maybe make a case that Team Rocket was around and well-known before R/B/Y, but that still doesn't explain Galactic which is assuredly after Team Rocket fell (for the first time at least).

Why wasn't Team Magma or Aqua mentioned though? Surely trying to resurrect gods of the land and sea respectively and causing a huge drought/tsunami across an entire continent would be well known. I assume this is because the events of Gen 3 are happening concurrently or a little before or after the events of Gen 5.

Just a thought.
There's no question about BW's place in the timeline- there's even more evidence like a grown-up Caitlin and the Team Rocket member who talks funny- what's not clear is RSE's placement. I've only seen one mention of Hoenn so far, and that was the hiker in the desert who mentions the Go-Goggles.

Just beat the game. I used Victini, Krookodile, Archeops and Virizion. Had no trouble with the E4, N or Ghetsis.

Archeops is a superstar and is arguably the best non-legendary in-game pokemon there has ever been. Acrobatics KOs everything that doesn't resist it and it has the movepool to KO everything else. It was definitely my MVP.

Even better than Scyther in HGSS?

RSE is at the same time as FRLG - since to trade between them requires adapting the trading system for long range, not for time travel.

B/W is post Gen 2/4 (which I assume is post Gen 1/3) In Underella you meet up w/ Cynthia and she references the hero from the DP games I believe.

Does anyone know where TM28(Dig) is? In my searches online all I can find is that it's "in Route 4". Yet I've combed Route 4 and not found jack.

I've got three gym badges and am currently in Nimbasa City.

I would just like to note this:

I transfered some Pokémon from HeartGold to White last night, and I was looking at their data.

I have a Dragonite from HeartGold and a Blastoise from Emerald. The Dragonite says "Apparently arrived at Lv. 55", whereas the Blastoise says "Apparently arrived at Lv. 50 after a long travel through time."

Could this extra sentence mean anything?

It's in a house on Route 4. From the Castelia City side of it, take the right-hand route and head north. It's in a house there.

Um... that's... helpful? >_> I've already been inside the only house and there was only a guy with a Krokorok that didn't give me anything.

Please, PLEASE be more specific.

The Braille next to the Sapphire Plate also said the plates were used to "connect the past" and not in the future to the past sense

I've just received my 8th badge! I was actually a bit disappointed, I think as far as dragon gym leaders go Claire was a bit more difficult, which was a surprise because the trainers in the gym (specifically ones with Druddigon) ripped huge holes in my team. By the time I got to Iris I only had 3 crippled pokemon left! It was a pain because you couldn't back track to get out and heal.

Which makes me wonder if my team is too underleveled to fight the elite 4.

Right now my team is:
Samurott lvl 45 (Rash)
Surf / Blizzard / Return / Megahorn
Samurott has been really solid, it can hit pretty hard and can usually 2HKO anything, and can still 1HKO a fair amount of things. It's been a lifesaver throughout the game so far, although it's kind of slow, and it's surprisingly not bulky for something covered in armor, but it can survive long enough to get most jobs done. All and all it has been very average and really relies on getting super effective hits.

Fluffee (Whimsicott) lvl 44 (Modest)
Giga Drain / Leech Seed / Stun Spore / Growth
Please hold your laughter. This thing is a freakin' rock star from mars. If not the MVP of my team, it's definitely been fun to use, my favorite by far. Priority stun spores and leech seeds have saved me many head aches, it even helped me beat Elesa and her Emolgas fairly easily. Plus with paralysis, leech seed, and giga drain it very rarely dies. Sure it's no quiver dancing Liligant and takes a little work to use, but it's not nearly as useless as it looks, and it's a bit tricky but when it can get a Growth or two to boost its Giga Drain it's just awesome, although I may replace growth with Hurricane.

Scrafty lvl 44 (Brave)
High Jump Kick / Crunch / Rest / Sand Attack lol
Scrafty is one of the only names I like from gen 5. I never planned on catching one for my team, but when I saw Scraggy do that thing where it pulls up its... pants? then puts its arms out and they fall down I was just like, "OHHH I have to have it!!!" I'm really glad I got it too, it's got an awesome attack, well, awesome enough to be able to reliably fight pretty much anything. It's probably the best guy on my team at taking hits while being able to hit back. Also I was kinda sad when it evolved, it lost its cuteness. lol

Archeops lvl 43 (Jolly)
Acrobatics / Crunch / Ancient Power / Bulldoze
I was really excited about this one. When I got Archen at level 25 I barely had to train it to catch up, and when it got Acrobatics it really did not disappoint. However as I progressed its Acrobatics just weren't doing the trick, it missed out on a lot of 1HKO's that it really needed, and began to eat up revives. Even after evolving it still misses those 1HKO's with an itemless Acrobatics on things it hits neutrally. When it's not being killed in one hit, I have to switch it out a lot, as right when I release it from its pokeball a gentle breeze brings its health bar down to the red. Rip me to shreds, but it's been fairly disappointing.

Victini lvl 43 (Modest)
Fire Blast / Confusion / Flame Charge / Thunder Wave
Mixed feelings here on this little guy. It has a very weak movepool early on, Headbutt being my strongest move for a while, although it had the raw stats to make some use out of Confusion and Incinerate in most situations, and once I bought Fire Blast it probably became the heaviest hitter on my team, it's really incredible now. It's defenses are actually really good too, it can really take a beating. I've been hoping to come across TM 29 for a while now, but I haven't so I might just teach it Focus Blast because confusion is really not cutting it these days.

Zoroark lvl 42 (Timid)
Focus Blast / Shadow Ball / Night Slash / Scary Face
FRAIL!!! This thing cannot take a hit to save its life! Super effective? Guaranteed 1HKO. Neutral or even resisted will usually result in a 2HKO unless coming off of a NFE using a weak attack, just watch out for those Sewaddle bug bites. However, it has excellent speed and special attack, the downside is for the longest time its movepool was almost purely physical, save for like, Grass Knot. Once I got shadow ball and focus blast it really began to carry its own weight. I was gonna dump it, but I kinda grew attached to it being on my team, I dunno.

I also have a seventh pokemon I like to swap out now and then.
Lampent lvl 43 (Modest)
Fire Blast / Shadow Ball / Will-o-Wisp / Flame Charge
Honestly I haven't used it too much, I exp. shared it to 41 because I couldn't stand Super Potion stalling with Litwick. Once it evolved though it really helped out, with WoW and the Eviolite it can really take a physical hit. It saved me from Iris's Druddigon, which after burned failed to even 3HKO it. I don't know if it's just me, but I think this lamp looks way cooler than Chandelure.

I think playing through in game has been really cool, like I love how the gym leaders are actually a part of the story line. Not like, "Oh no! The world is in danger by being destroyed by living legends, and only I can stop them! But first let me go and get these badges."

When pokemon first got popular I was... 6 I believe, and I got my first game at 7, and it was like the coolest game ever, when gold and silver came out it was really fun, brand new, combining two regions, it was awesome. When the third gen came around I was just in awe from the hugely improved graphics, but playthrough got pretty tedious at times, I still think gen 3 was the peak of attack animations, and possibly sprites. By gen 4 it was just... stale, playing through was almost painful for me at points and the graphics just didn't cut it. I wasn't expecting much, but gen 5 did not disappoint at all, and is really fun and had that "new and exciting" feel to it.

Any Pokemon coming from Gen 3 gives that message. The implication is they waited 3 years to be Pal Parked to 4th gen, and then an additional however many years (I think current estimates are maybe 4 or 5?) to be Transferred to 5th gen.

Um... that's... helpful? >_> I've already been inside the only house and there was only a guy with a Krokorok that didn't give me anything.

Please, PLEASE be more specific.

1. Fly to Nimbasa City(or walk/run/cycle)
2. Go through the southern gate
3. Follow the road, shortly after going under a motorway, follow the road to the left.
4. At the next turn there is a house, talk to one of the guys in there and he'll give you the TM

If you have found the six Sages, beaten Cynthia, and Looted the Abyssal Ruins (and sold the Relic items to the guy in the big villa for a LOT of money), then I don't think there's much left in-game besides catching Pokemon and the Battle Subway. (At least until the season changes.)

My only complaint is that the battle music is godawful. Every theme is worse than the same theme from a different generation, and the wild/trainer themes are the worst yet. The outside of battle themes are nice though.

Also how the trainers immediately turn to face you when you walk by. Very annoying.

Well, and my DS also broke 2 or 3 days ago.

TMs being reusable, the Dowsing Machine always being on and the storyline are good.

My team is horribly unbalanced. I'm about to go on Route 8 (once I get a new DS), with a level 41 Zebstrika, level 35 Panpour, 34 Unfezant, 33 Pignite, 32 Victini and a level 30 Pansage that will be the first to be replaced.

I don't know about anyone else, but I found Zoroark and Gigalith really helpful. Trainers (such as N or Caitlin) just throw psychic moves at things like Gigalith and never seem to realize it's actually Zoroark... and Gigalith, despite its bad defensive typing, has plenty of Defense to take anything that isn't special or super-effective. That said, I use Gigalith a little less now that I've got poketransfer, granted it's more my bad than it being ineffective, hard to pass up a Porygon-Z that started back in FR. On that note, I'm trying out psyshock on the Z (to cover special walls), are there better attacks or does psyshock fare well enough in V?

I completed the game Friday evening and if there's one thing this game deserves praise for (out of many), It's the poketransfer system. I can transfer a box of Pokemon in under 10 minutes. That's fantastic compared to how slow the 4th gen pal park system was!

So, the Elite Four were a little easy... I guess I do tend to overlevel a tad, though. I had one really annoying fight sometime before them, though, against a guy with a Darmanitan: I'm leading with Emboar. I decide to Hammer Arm to KO. It Belly Drums. My Hammer Arm misses. Then it Flare Blitzes... One roasted piggy. Luckily, Swanna outsped it.

Ghost: I lead with Krookodile. Crunch doesn't quite OHKO Cogragigus (oops, still have Soft Sand instead of Black Glasses), and he gets WIll o Wisped. I Crunch as she Full Heals... Then I burn heal as she does some damage, before finishing it off with another Crunch. I send Lilligant out to fight Jellicent. Sleep Powder buys time for a few Quiver Dances, then I Giga Drain it to death - and Cursed Body activates. Petal Dance OHKOs the rest of her team, though.

Then I thought I was facing the Psychic person. But I went in the wrong door. So, Krookodile leads off against Scrafty, and I've no idea if this is the Dark or the Fighting leader. Swanna comes in, and Brick Break doesn't hurt much. Fly finishes it off. And then... Krookodile. Okay, this is the Dark leader. Surf! Liepard comes out. Fake Out does some damage. I Fly, and don't quite KO. Night Slash crits. Swanna faints. I think I finish it off with Stoutland. Then I send Emboar against Bisharp. Hammer Arm makes it very dead.

So, this is the Psychic leader... Krookodile starts off, and OHKOs Reuniclus. The Sigilyph Ice Beams. Ouch. But the Crunch in return is a OHKO, and I'm left at low health. So I decide to switch out of Musharna, in case I don't quite finish it. My Reunclus Shadow Balls, doing about half. Musharna's Shadow Ball crits and gets the Sp. Def drop on Reuniclus, leaving it in the orange/red. Nuts. Well, she'll obviously Shadow Ball again, so I switch in Stoutland. She Psychics. What? Why on earth would she do that against Reuniclus? Big meany. Oh, well, Crunch. She gets a crit Psychic and kills Stoutland. Grrr. I send in Krookodile. She fully heals Musharna, but Crunch was a OHKO. So why didn't I leave it in from the start? Sigh. Crunch finishes her team off.

Fighting guy now. I lead Swanna. Swanna Featherdances and Roosts, then kills with Surf and Fly. I sweep his team without ever being in serious danger (unless one of the Stone Edges were to crit). Yay Swanna.
