Acatia:

In generation 5, yes, because Simple doubles effects that raise or lower its bearer's stat stages. Thus, for example, if a Bidoof with Simple uses Curse, its Speed would be reduced by 2 stages instead of 1, and its Attack and Defense would be increased by 2 stages instead of 1. The changed stat stages can then be passed on with Baton Pass.

Thanks Poccil
but im actually wondering if it also works the other way around. say I use a Shell Break passing Gorebyss/Huntail and Baton Passed to Bibarel would I get +4 atk/sp.a/spe or just the original +2

And if anyone doesn't mind helping me with that math question, or even send me to a damage calculator that would be great.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work the way you're asking.

Thats sad, it would have been pretty funny to destroy stuff up with a +4 Bibarel.
Guess I'll stick to Nidoking and something like Cinccino or idk

Acatia:

As a matter of fact, in generation 4 it did work that way, sort of. In generation 4's version of Simple, each of its bearer's stat stages would be treated as though they were doubled when calculating damage and determining accuracy, rather than giving a doubled effect to stat stage increases and reductions.

For example, in generation 4, Curse would still raise Bidoof's Speed by 1 stage and its Attack and Defense by 1 stage, and exactly those stat changes would be passed on with Baton Pass. However, the Attack and Defense stat stages would be treated as 2 (rather than 1) when it comes time to calculate damage.

In generation 4, when another Pokemon passed its stat stages, via Baton Pass, on to the Pokemon with Simple, those stat stages on that Pokemon would be doubled when it came time to calculate damage.

All this is reflected on the different descriptions I give for Simple in generations 4 and 5.

Generation 4:

In stat calculation and accuracy checks, each stat stage of bearer is treated as though it were doubled, but not less than -6 or greater than 6.

Generation 5:

Effects that increase or decrease bearer's stat stages by a certain number of stages do so by twice that many stages instead.

I was reading a Clamperl analysis and can I ask why it hits 988 Sp. Attack after one shell break with a neutral nature? 50% of me is guessing that it's just a typo, but can someone clarify this for me? Thanks.

Got it Virizion. Thanks (again lol)
Edit: Crap, wrong quote. Was supposed to edit the one above T_T

can someone explain what an uber team is? Does every team one of each kind of pokemon..like support, sweeper, etc? What is an example of a decent team? just say the names of the pokemon..i'm really confused as to where to start on a team of EV trained pokemon. up til now, i've just kind of played and leveled up on everything but now i feel like i really have to start over and catch only certain natures of certain pokemon etc.

so what's a good team? i've heard much about chandelure, hydreigon, jellicent...what's a good team.

An Uber team is any team with at least one Uber in it. (Check the OU-banlist thread for the Ubers)

A "good team" is usually a team consisting of Pokemon that have good synergy with each other, either offensively (Can't think of a good example here..) or defensively (Celebi + Heatran, etc.), or if the members are good in a certain environment (Water/Electric/Steel types in rain, slow Pokemon in Trick Room, etc.)

A good team is a team that is well-built, comprised of pokemon supporting other pokemon and covering all the bases. There's no specific pokemon you need to use to make a good team, just pokemon that work well together. For instance, Magikarp can be a potent and powerful sweeper (pokemon that kills everything) if he's set up properly. My best piece of advice is play pokemon online (search pokemon online in google, it's an online battle simulator), and try out teams there. 5th gen is fairly undefined at the moment in terms of what's better and worse, so it's tough to say what's Overused vs. Under used etc... but Ubers are a tier of pokemon or pokemon+abilities banned from the regular metagame because they would be unfair to play against with any other, normally viable, pokemon within that tier. For example, all the legendary dragons are Uber pokemon, as their stats are through the roof and can 1 hit KO much of the other pokemon out there.

Ubers itself though, is a tier with no restrictions on the type of pokemon you can use, nor their abilities etc... Most competitive battlers like to at least use species clause (no two of the same pokemon on the same team).

Can someone please explain or link me to a place that explains the sleep mechanics of Gen 5? I'd like to know the minimum/maximum number of turns I can expect my opponent to be asleep, as well as the probability that the sleep counter will get each of those numbers.

If you're looking for good examples of teams, I find that the RMT archive is a great place to look at different playstyles or methods of constructing a team.

Here are some of my favourite RMTs:

Team Layla (by Iconic)

Revolutionizing the metagame in late 2007 (and rising (lol)) (by Aldaron)

A Greek RMT (by Stathakis)

I don't know everything about it yet, but I know that Rest is still only 2 turns (as there's been a bit of confusion in the past about that) and the sleep counter resets when a Pokemon switches out. I believe the most turns a Pokemon can sleep is 5, and the least is 1 (I've never seen a Pokemon wake up right after being put to sleep, unlike Freeze which can defrost right after a Pokemon is frozen)

Since the trade thread is down does anyone happen to have an extra female DW (immunity) gligar or (Poison Heal) Gliscor. I can trade BP items, female DW vulpix, poliwag or dratini for it. I also have some other random DW pokemon for trade. If you can trade me one vm or pm me please and Thank you =)

Sorry to keep asking about this, but just to be clear, swift swim armaldo or beartic aren't baned when used in conjunction with drizzle?

Well Swift Swim Beartic isn't released yet, but SS Armaldo is since it's still Swift Swim and would still be used under Drizzle (unless rules were changed recently)
