Gimmicks R Us

First I am going to tell everyone right now that this team is still under construction, and is likely to be changed. Second this team is meant to be made out of gimmicks and is designed to use every Pokemon for an interesting purpose not the most effective one, so when suggesting a change make sure it still has something gimmicky or strange. I don't want my team to have things like a bulk up Conkeldurr or a Ferrothorn, those are too overused. So enough talking onto the team itself.

Garbodor @ Focus Sash
Weak Armor
Jolly
EVs: 252HP 4Attk 252Spe
- Explosion
- Gunk Shot
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes

This guy is probably my personal favorite toxic spiker in the game. Most leads are physical and if the attack this guy he just gets faster and is able to put up another layer of Toxic Spikes meaning he almost always gets two layers of Toxic Spikes up before he dies, and if your opponent sets up hazards the first turn he also is able to explode on your opponents lead making him pretty darn effective, unless your opponent has a Fortress for a lead or a Donphan since this guy can't really do anything if they are around.

606.png

Beheeyem @ Life Orb
Analytic
Quiet
EVs: 252HP 252SpAttk 4SpDef
-Psychic
-Recover
-Substitute
-Hidden Power Fighting

I bet you have no idea what this Pokemon is, well prepare to be amazed. This is one of the most powerful special attackers in the game when used properly. Here are some damage calcs:
Psychic
- 84.91% - 100% to neutral nature Garchomp
- 81.99% - 96.46% to neutral nature Volcarona
Hidden Power Fighting
- 66.33% - 78.21% to Careful 252 HP / 252 SpD Tyranitar
- 92.63% - 109.2% to neutral nature Hydreigon
So it is an absolutely amazing poke that is really underrated that can absolutely wreck.

227.png

Skarmory @ Life Orb
Weak Armor
Adamant
EVs: 252HP 252Def 4Spe
-Assurance
-Brave Bird
-Swords Dance
-Taunt

Oh, you thought it would be a normal Skarm did you, well you were very wrong. This is a custom Skarm that I made up that relys on good timing and prediction but can be very deadly when it's counters are out of the way. All it needs to do is, switch in on a physical attacker's attack and get his WA speed boost, Taunt or Swords Dance, and then sweep. He has quite a few counters but if you play him well he can absolutley destroy a team.

195.png

Quagsire @ Lum Berry
Unaware
Bold
EVs: 252HP 136Def 126SpDef
-Boiling Water
-Recover
-Toxic
-Stockpile

Well Quagsire is great this gen with boiling water and its new ability it is able to tank hits from boosting sweepers incredibly well. He provides toxic support and will annoy the absolute hell out of anyone that he decides to switch in on. It is also a reliable counter to the ever present Excadrill.

646.png

Kyurem @ Choice Scarf
Pressure
Lonely
EVs: 126Attk 132SpAttk 252Spe
- Outrage
- Blizzard
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast

All I have to say is poor Kyurem he has so much potential and his speed stat is what kills him. This is perfect for me though you may say he isn't a gimmick, but how many Kyurems do you see running around... none, I thought so. He proves to be an excellent mixed wall breaker and when scarfed is no slowpoke.

images

Murkrow @ Evolite
Prankster
Sassy
EVs: 252HP 4Def 252SpDef
- Perish Song
- Mean Look
- Roost
- Featherdance

The best perish trapper in the game, period. He is my trumpcard to get rid of counters to my team. All he needs to do is trap you and you are going to die, he may not seem very bulky but he can just keep recovering before you can hit him as much as you want and he just Roosts it off and almost nothing can 1 Hit KO it meaning he will keep trolling you until you die. He can also give useful support with Featherdance.

Well I would like all of you to tell me what you think this team is still being tested by me and I am thinking about making a couple changes in the future to it. I would also like to make more teams like this so if you wanna see any more insane ideas I have them so your support would be appreciated.

BTW when rating feel free to tear this team apart and be harsh. I can't make it any better if people are just nice all the time.

First thing I noticed is that you don’t have any Sp sweepers at all. So a majority of teams will be able to wall you. You say that you have Throh to break through walls, and honestly that’s not going work out for you very well, Ferrothorn will iron barb you to extremely low health before you kill it and will make him easy to sweep by any Pokémon on the other team. I know you say you don’t want to use common Pokémon so I suggest:
Nidoking.png

Nidoking (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt

This guy is an amazing sweeper and I uncommon, his move set isn’t gimmicky like you said you wanted it to be, but he’s not very common right now and underappreciated. I tried getting as close as I could to your wants while trying to stay within reason of competitiveness. He will take out any Physical wall and any Sp Wall you run into I suggest leaving your Garbodor to explode into it.
So switch Throh for Nidoking.

Personally I feel that Sableye is out of place on your team. He’s best used as a lead to screw with the opponent, whereas you’re playing him as a kind of mixed wall. I think you should take him out for a physical mid game sweeper. Your offensive Skarmory acts like an end game sweeper, so u might wana have a physical attacker to check Skarmory counters like Heatran and Tyranitar witch both end up being Specially bulky. Right now your best counter for those would be your Perish Trap Murkrow, but you’re better off using him to Perish trap a Choice Scarfers because I can see your team having difficulties with those. I also see your team having a problem with Jellicent, because you can’t explode into it and its unaffected by Perish Song. I would recommend:
466.gif

Electivire (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Motor Drive
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Wild Charge
- Brick Break
- Fire Punch
- Ice Punch

Now there’s nothing gimmicky about this set, but it counters the main problems I see your team having. He’s kind of like Nidoking; he’s very effective but not very common or over used a lot. I know I probably didn’t give you the changes you want because there not very gimmicky, but they’re effective and will keep your team up to speed and be able to check some of the threats of the metagame. Having 1/3 of your team not being Gimmicky isn’t bad; you’re still going to surprise the fuck out of people with an offensive Skarmory. I like this team its very interesting and will put a lot of people off guard. I hope it does well.

Thanks a lot,
I think I might try the Nidoking because you're right it is pretty rare in 5th gen and Sheer Force will help it a lot with special sweeping so I might try him, but I came up with another idea for a special sweeper I might post in a bit after I test it a bit more that is incredibly powerful and has a usage stat of about .01%. If it works I will use it but if it doesn't then Nidoking will also be pretty good, and still rare enough to use on the team.

Also, I don't think Electivire really goes well with the team because he is a little too common, but never the less it was still a good suggestion, and it has help me think of something much more gimmicky and rare that is actually really good. Still I will try E-vire if my idea doesn't work.

Rinx7

Assurcance can't work with prediction, as toxic spikes does no damage when it come in, switch that with another move, if you going the swords dance route... I guess rock slide is an option.

Incorrect place to post that question.

Sorry but I just don't have time to do this right now, and you seem to have some good rates. Also, you said you have a newer/better gimmick team your working on; so good luck with that!

The murkrow will catch people by surprise. so will skarmony. The only problem I see is how weak murkrow is. Say somebody hits you with a choice or 2+ dynamic punch or psychical fighting attack? he's dead. Just a though.

Okay people don't seem to know what a gimmick is nowadays. It is a popular Pokemon with a really strange set like Choice Band Togekiss or Weak Armor Skarmory. I will also consider a Pokemon for the team if they have a really low usage rate, like 1%. That is what I consider a Gimmick so stop posting things that aren't in those categories.

hey definetly try the nidoking he is great i use him all the time. and if you wanna have a gimmicky E-vire than run choice band, thats what i do to.

How about LEVEL 2 STURDY Probopass?

You use Toxic Spikes on your team already, and it works great to stall, it could go over Quagsire:

[SET]
name: Lv. 2 Sturdy
move 1: Pain Split
move 2: Magic Coat
move 3: Torment / Taunt
move 4: Protect / Toxic
item: Leftovers
ability: Sturdy
evs: 252 Spe
ivs: 0 HP / 0 Def / 0 SDef
nature: Hasty

Set Comments:
  • Probopass has access to both Sturdy and Pain Split allowing it to function as quite a gimmicky teammate that has the potential to catch many players by surprise.
  • The idea of this set is for Probopass to take an attack and be promptly sent down to 1 HP due to Sturdy. Probopass will then use Pain Split which allows it to recover back up to max HP and the opponent's HP is reduced in the process. Probopass is able to continue this until the opponent is reduced to low enough HP that residual damage will faint it. Probopass is able to come back in later on and complete this process over and over again.
  • It is an absolute necessity that Probopass is Level 2 and it has the lowest possible defenses to ensure Sturdy activates when your opponent attacks.
  • Magic Coat allows Probopass to reflect Taunt, status and other problematic indirect attacks back to the opponent.
  • Torment and Protect, work to add to the stall process, force switches, and ultimately stop Choice foes in their tracks, literally resulting in their "Struggle" every other turn. Protect can be used to stall for a Toxic damage turn, scout the foe's next move, and also heals HP if Probopass switches into entry hazard damage.
  • Taunt and Toxic allow Probopass to stall out the opponents with haste, especially if Toxic Spikes has been removed or if Toxic is used against a Flying, or Levitating type and can be used on a predicted switch to force the foe to attack, and make it simple to just Pain Split to heal Probopass, while lowering their HP by 50%, only aided further if they hold a Life Orb.

Additional Comments:

  • Prediction is key to this set and provided your opponent does not have a Substitute user and you predict absolutely perfectly with Probopass, it will not die.

If you want a staller, then use shell bell aron or this cottnee

lvl 1 cotennee @focus sash
ev: 255 HP/ 255 Spe
nature:timid
ability-prankster
-leech seed
-subsitute
-endeavor
-grasswhistle

comments
-leech seed and subsitute with prankster and 12 HP allow it to stall.
-if leech seed misses, use grasswhistle to try to put the enemy to sleep, then procede to seed and subsitute.
-endeavor can be used if sub is up to kill something.
-this makes a good lead
-can be countered by piority moves, damaging weather, or stealth rock, spikes, toxic spikes, or any status. Also by other things with prankster.

Any grass/Liquid Ooze types counter that set, beyond possible sleep from Grasswhistle. Taunt does as well. Ghost types also block Endeavor.

Probopass can skip all of those with Pain Split as it is essentially typeless, and Magic Coat reflects Taunt back on the opponent.

There is one problem if you remove Quagsire the team loses its best defense against Excadrill and other boosting sweepers as well as Baton pass teams, and even though he isn't as gimmicky as the suggestions you guys made I thing Quagsire supports the rest of the team better.

well why use toxic orb? on guts pokemon or anything that benefits from it why not toxic spikes your team! Yes its a crazy gimmick and it works............ GREAT!

Xatu,Magic Bouncer,Timid,252 speed,252 special attack,4 HP,Choice Scarf

images

Moves:

Skill Swap
Psyco Shock
U-Turn
Shadow Ball

The strategy with xatu first is to skill swap first and then switch to a toxic spiker or something that can benefit the effect of a status condition or boost.

images

Forretress,Sturdy,Careful,252 special defense,252 Hp,4 Attack,Leftovers/Sitrus Berry/Lum Berry

Moves:

Rest/Pain Split
Explosion/Counter
Toxic Spikes
Earthquake

first dont switch to fire moves! unless your xatu dies once he does skill swap first to do is toxic spikes and the rest is up to you its actually good to save him for counter while benefiting from sturdy.
,
Breloom,Poison Heal,Careful,80 HP,240 Defense, 252 Special Defense,Leftovers

Breloom.jpg

Moves:

Substitute
Focus Punch/Drain Punch
Leech Seed
Protect

Now this set makes breloom into a kind of stallrein Protect for free healing substitute and leech seed for effective subseeding and focus punch/drain punch for dangerous situatuations.

Conkeldurr,Guts,Adamant,252 HP/Special Defense,4 HP/Special Defense, Choice Band.

conkeldurr_v_2_by_xous54-d38f657.png

Moves:

Mach Punch
Drain Punch
Earthquake
Stone Edge

This conkeldurr set starts with 936 ATTACK!........ Sickening to hear......... mach punch makes him strike first drain punch lets you heal almost full health against most pokemon, stone edge provides good coverage and earthquake for even more converage.

Zangoose,Toxic Boost,Adamant,252 Attack,188 Speed,68 HP,Choice Scarf

Zangoose.png

Moves:

Facade
Close combat
Night Slash
Rock Slide

Now this zangoose is really fast and hits really hard he can one hit KO Snorlax with facade Almost kill Ferrethorn with Close Combat and much more.

Well the last is all up to you I personaly use heatran with baloon and Will-O Wisp and make it magic bounce Will-O Wisp meaning it will increase damage of fire attacks cause of flash fire..... yeah pretty cool anyway I hope you love it!

That is one of the craziest maneuvers I have ever seen... I like it. Next team I post will use that to some extent.

Slowbro could use swagger while it bounces back sharply increasing its own attack while it would be immune cause of Own Tempo.

Dodrio could also use swagger at himself to increase evasion while sharply increasing attack.

I think you should try tropius he is pretty gimmicky with the ability harvest that enables the use of a berry unlimited times.

I suggest a sitrus berry cause it heals you 25% when 50% health this means you could guarantee the use of a substitute when low heal and you could use it up to 2 times at once.

He is also an outstanding subseeder and can even be a sweeper which is amazing.

Smeargle could actually be a potential sweeper.

Smeargle,Own Tempo,Adamant,252 Attack,252 Speed,Focus sash.

Moves:

Shell Smash
Spore
Freeze Shock
Lightning Strike

The trick is to do shell smash spore then another shell smash then start sweeping with unresisted boltbeam.

Cinncino,Skill link,Jolly,252 Attack,252 Speed,Scope lens.

Moves:

Tail Slap
Rock Blast
Bullet Seed
Charm

Cinncino with scope lens gets a 47% chance of getting a critical hit cause of scope lens with its multiple hitting attacks.

Well more to come.

^ hate to spoil your idea, but couldnt they just switch out their poke with magic mirror? also by using magic mirror-skill-swap on them, youve just wasted a turn. then you switch out, another turn wasted, then you move. that's two free turns for your opponent to do whatever they like while you do jack all! oh and hi guys first post :)

Tropius is a good idea but the others are a bit circumstial on whether the decide to work or not. But Tropius is most definitley usable. So I may add it to the next team I post.

Not everyone uses magic mirror pokemon so its unlikely.
