Hello everyone its been some time since I've posted on smogon but since Black and White are out I've finally felt the urge to be competitive again! What I am about to introduce is something that I've been going back and forth about for a few weeks now. I've gotten so excited from all the new pokemon being out that I have been breeding and training but with no real focus! So I have seen a few of the new high quality teams being shown on the forums and I really like some of the ideas that I see so I admit to taking a few ideas from featured ou teams and trying to make something a little different. Hopefully everyone can help me out to design it better and give me a team that will get me back on the tournament circuit!
Breloom/Knuckles
Trait: poison Heal
Item: Toxic Orb
Nature: Adamant
Ev's: 252 Atk, 16 Hp, 230 Spd
Moveset:
>Spore
>Seed Bomb
>Focus punch
>Substitute
This little dude has been one of my favorite grass type's of all time and my second favorite pokemon. Since I finished my White version I found the transfer lab and brought Breloom back as soon as I could! The set he has is obviously his standard but for me it's just his usual tool kit that I've been using forever. For my own sake I decided to take a little out of his speed and throw it into Hp. I like teammates that have a decent amount of health behind them and it's my own anxiousness that made me make the Ev's this way. Not saying that I would not be ready to change them but even behind a substitute I like being able to survive. The thing I love about this set is focus punch, I love other fighting moves like close combat and drain punch but the focus and sub just makes me smile all the time! So enough about my obsession lets move on to the rest of the team.
Jellicent/Waldorf
Trait:Water Absorb
Nature: Calm
Item: Leftovers
Ev's: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe
Moveset:
>Taunt
>Scald
>Will-o-Wisp
>Recover
If it's one thing I seen when I battled in tournaments it's that fire and ice are always abound and in so many different forms including hidden power ice and fire. I wanted something new that would take care of water mons with ice attacks and fire maniacs who would try to hurt my buddy Breloom!
So I chose Jellicent, I have seen quite a few variations of this big ole jellyfish so Im very torn for the STAB water move slot. I wanted Ice beam since its a favorite move of mine and would aid in checking other grass/flying/rock/dragon mons and the like. The wisp is because burn is my favorite crippling tactic and is always a favorite utility. Recover just had to be included because I admire pokemon that have access to self healing and I never pass up the chance to use it. The water STAB is what is troubling me, Hydro has awesome force but not the best accuracy, whereas surf has better accuracy and is all around more stable but doesn't always have the energy that I want. And lastly Water spout because it has fantastic strength, impeccable accuracy, but relies on health to be effective but my reasoning for it would be since I already have recover I could always heal then fire it off but I feel like it might be more of a choice between hydro and surf.
Tyranitar/Godzilla
Trait: Sand Stream
Nature: Quiet
Item:Leftovers
Ev's: 252 Hp, 66 Sp Def, 190 Sp Atk
Moveset:
>Stealth Rock
>Ice Beam
>Flamethrower
>Crunch/pursuit
Ah Godzilla, hero of my heart, loved it ever since I caught my first Larvitar and my favorite of all time. In days gone by I use to run an Adamant, Stone Edge/EQ monster, but recently I've come to be amazed by Tyranitar even more with his new talents! I never would have used a Tyranitar like this before but since I want something new I thought after looking at a few sets like this I would try it out. Stealth rock is a given for me because above any other strategy for a battle entry hazards are a must for me! Toxic Spikes is more my style but for this team stealth rock is an important tool, because if there's two things I hate more than anything else in a battle its the sturdy ability, and those darn focus sash items! So being able to break that nonsense makes me feel much safer. I have Ice beam here because as I've said its a favorite of mine and I like extra insurance against dragons mostly. My trouble here is deciding between flamethrower and fire blast. The blast has more force which is what I always look for but flamethrower has better accuracy and I hate missing at the wrong time, so do I go for strength or stability in this slot? The last slot is for Crunch, it's got STAB, it has good power, and it just sounds painful.
Jirachi/Jedediah
Trait: Serene Grace
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Jolly
Ev's: 252 Hp, 190 Spd, 10 Atk, 56 SpD
Moveset:
>Iron Head
>Wish
>Fire punch
>Thunderwave
The adorable little star and a new favorite of mine. I use to have a policy to never use legendary mons because I always felt that non legendary can always become better but with the recent times and I clearly out of date I can't avoid it anymore. I do say that Im very please with Jirachi including his trait serene grace and iron head, I love the flinch factor and catching others off guard. Wish was originally Substitute but after some more thinking I decided I wanted more recovery and I could not afford to not use Wish. The third slot is really confusing, I like fire moves and find that fire punch works well for Jirachi, but because of his trait body slam also has the chance to paralyze, but the punch has the chance to burn and so this decision has become very hard. The last slot i wanted to leave for utility, thunderwave is another fun tactic but protect somehow makes me feel safer. I might choose the shield over the thunderwave in the end.
Excadrill/Mr.Mole
Trait: Sandrush
Ev's: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 Hp
Nature: Jolly
Item Balloon
Moveset:
>Return
>Earthquake
>Swords Dance
>Rockslide
To make the team better you guys said have the mole! I do like Excadrill, fast and dangerous and with swords dance because I love the atk boosting. I'll see how the new guy does for fitting into the team!
Gliscor/Batman
Trait: poison Heal
Item: Toxic Orb
Nature: Impish
Ev's: 252 Hp, 70 Atk, 186 Def
Moveset:
>Facade/Ice Fang
>Taunt
>Earthquake
>Swords Dance
And lastly we have Gliscor! Ive seen the set used by both Solum's Core and the new featured RMT Layla and both are very inviting. The first slot is my biggest issue, I already have two ice attacks but ice fang is usually so standard. But Facade is more interesting because of toxic orb, I remember when I used Ursaring for kicks and giggles facade would always work with flame orb for massive attack so I may just take facade because like the title it's good to be a little different!
Threat List:
Thundurus: Damn rain teams! Tyranitar will take out the drizzle and either ice beam it or I'll bring out Jirachi to deal with him.
Scizor: I know from using him that there's a force to be reckoned with here. Swords dancing and bullet punching I'd have to burn him first then Gliscor attacks or considering he is a steel breloom could smack him back
Rotom-W: Ive seen this guy show his face around lately and let's see him take a seed bomb!(What else could face rotom w?)
Reuniclus: Another psychic trying to absorb my burn! Slam him with Jirachi's iron head, flinching will be inevitably be it's downfall if I don't inclue body slam for paralysis.
politoed: This guy makes me worry and might make me consider Thunderpunch for breloom but he already has substitue to hide behind and seed bombs to throw. Although I do see them carry ice beams and encore to trap others so I might like to spore or burn it and let it smash Jellicent and trade blows in the sandstorm for a while.
Mienshao: The one thing to be wary of this the darn fake out, it creates tempo against you and is all around annoying, best to have breloom sub quick as wink and make it go to bed first.
Conkeldurr: Might be better to let Gliscor handle the slow fighters.
Latios: Ice beam the dragon and run away! Latios is definitely scary and always holds big threats like surf and draco meteor, take out the Jellicent and stay safe!
Dragonite: Another ice beam taker but can be fast and bulky so I might have ice fang around to tackle it.
Garchomp: Jellicent was made for this guy, dragon/ground against water/ghost who has ice and water ready to go. It may be fast but hit the recover button and hose it down quick.
Jirachi: Annoying yes but not invulnerable. Depending on the set it's using I wouldnt mind trading the status with it under paralysis if I can burn it and focus punch it, But to be safer might take Tyranitar's crunch and flamethrower to take it down.
I doubt that I've listed ALL the threats but I've only jotted down some of the biggest threats in my mind currently. So there's the team, I'm hoping I haven't gotten too rusty since I left the circuit. Thanks for reading and comment and rate well!
