Fake MixMence? What is this?

Ever since 5th generation came around, I've been itching to use a Salamence. Although with all the newer and seemingly better threats out there, it has been hard for me to fit one on a team. One day I was browsing through older RMT's on Smogon for possible ideas, and one caught my eye. I found a semi stall team made by george182 who had an interesting Salamence I needed to try out. After two whole days of constant testing I finally came to a conclusion. Here is my team.

Motor (Rotom-W) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 136 HP / 252 SAtk / 120 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Pain Split

Got tired of being locked into a move and having to waste of turn to Trick. The EVs let me outspeed adamant Dragonite, maximize his offenses and provide decent bulk. Rotom is pretty much the anti-meta lead, doing massive damage to Tyranitar, Politoed and anything switching into it. Not much wants to switch into a Rotom-W's attacks, kind of like LO Starmie in 4th gen. Volt Switch gives me the advantage over their own switch-in while dealing good damage. HP Ice is just filler and hit dragons harder. Pain Split helps out when i bring him into something i can get a safe recovery from like Jellicent and Gliscor.

Transexual (Heatran) (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 32 HP / 252 SAtk / 224 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Stealth Rock

Heatran comes handy when my opponent brings in Ferrothorn on Rotom's Volt Switch. From then on I have still maintained excellent momentum and force many switches so I can get up free rocks. Hp Grass is needed so I can take out those annoying Gastrodon giving Rotom a hard time. A few times I found people trying to set up with their dragons right in front of heatran as they assume I would have Earth Power. I found this flaw in my team so put in Dragon Pulse for the last slot. Other Heatran aren't an issue because in this case I have perfect synergy with Rotom as they are forced to go for Earth Power.

Eon (Latios) (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Not your ordinary Specs Latios but Expert Belt fools many people in thinking so. This guy is great synergy for things the team can't handle too well like Infernape or Rotom-W. This Latios is great bait to. I can KO Scizors thinking I'm locked into a weakened Draco Meteor. Bulky Tyranitar gets 2HKO on the switch with Surf from my Rotoms Volt Switch firstt turn. 1HKO if I had chose Hydro Pump. Thunderbolt is there to just round off all other coverage. As you can see by now I play this team very aggressively.

Don't Run (Scizor) (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Ofcourse I don't want to get wreaked by other dragons and ruin my team. The old school CB Scizor still keeps Latios/Latias in check. Reuniclus can get demolished too nuff said.

PK4L (Landorus) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Hammer Arm
- U-turn

This guy should be the next Flygon i swear. Although Landorus does it better. 101 base speed lets me outspeed anything with a speed boost even Volcorona. Lots of people don't even expect him to be scarf, I've caught many Thundurus off guard it's just funny. Thanks to sandstorm being the most used weather this guy hits like a truck. Hammer Arm is needed to one shot any Excadrill like the ones with a Air Balloon.

Spr_4d_373.png

Its2STRONG (Salamence) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 80 Atk / 252 SAtk / 176 Spd
Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage

I saved the best for last and that's how I usually like to end the game. The idea is to Draco Meteor first turn, early in the game dealing some massive damdage and tricking the opponent into thinking im a MixMence. This means they won't switch there Skarmory/Gliscor in late game fearing strong sp.atks, allowing me to DD up, take them by surprise and sweep with Outrage. Fire Blast is there for perfect coverage besides Heatran but that is why I keep Rotom around. Scizor is the only thing to worry about at this point but by then Latios or someone else has already dealt with it.

So rate, hate, steal ;) if you like.

I hate to be an ass, but one line of text isn't "nuff said." Maybe buff it up with some calculations or something.

Draco Meteor has a -2 Special Attack drop. I'd doubt you'd be hurting much with 175 Special Attack, even if Fire Blast becomes 156 due to Life Orb, it isn't really STAB'd and you mentioned about using it late game. It can do decent damage to Skarmory, just be careful about how you use it.

EDIT: Balls, didn't notice the date, ignore this post.

._. ???

But...I'm pretty sure a lot of people expected Landorus to be Scarfed :P

I'm a little tired so I'm not rating this. I might do that later in the day. Great team. Keep it up. :D

Hey hey I'm fond of havin recovery even if it's mostly seen on latias
moves. Better than dying too quickly lol don't be hatin

Great team, I like the creativity. One notable weakness is LO Starmie. All he has to do is come in on tran or Scizor locked into Bullet Punch and proceed to use the appropriate STAB move to OHKO something on your team. Also, Landorus cannot come in for free (unless they use tbolt, but Team Preview will most likely tell them to spam Hydro Pump) so you basically have to sac something each time Starmie comes in. Also, your specs Rotom should take a hefy amount from rocks + Hydro Pump + tbolt. I'm not sure if it KOs, but a weakened Rotom obviously isn't living.

To help this weakness, I suggest a Scarf Rotom instead. That way you can outspeed and KO Starmie. Anotehr option is to change Heatran to a Ferrothorn. I say this because your Scizor can easily use Superpower or your Landorus can use Hammer Arm. Scizor resists all of ferro's moves, and Landy can come in on the ever so common Leech Seed.

Hi. It seems that weather in general can be a big pain to this team. Tyranitar would probably work very well on this team over Latios since it can really help you take on other weathers such as drought and drizzle. A moveset of Stealth Rocks | Fire Blast | Crunch | Pursuit would work really well since you can destroy Latios locked into draco meteor and also switch into other specially based threats easily such as Heatran. An EV spread of 252 HP | 48 SpA | 200 SpD | 8 Spe with a chople berry and a sassy nature would also work very well. Excadrill is also a big problem for this team. In the sandstorm, a boosted Excadrill can OHKO every member on this team. For a quick fix, you could try Skarmory over Choice Band Scizor since it can check threats such as Excadrill and Landorus much more easily than anything else on your team. A set with Spikes | Roost | Brave Bird | Whirlwind with an Impish nature would work best. Also, a good EV spread would be 252 HP | 216 Def | 40 Spe and the choice of leftovers or shed shell is up to you.

Finally, I would suggest swapping some movesets on this team to make it much more effective. With the spikes that Skarmory provides, Rotom-W could really benefit more as a choice scarf variant with the moveset of Volt Switch | Hydro Pump | Hidden Power [Fire] | Trick. A similar change would be to change Landorus' set to an expert belt version with Hidden Power [Ice] over Hammer Arm and a Naive nature. With Skarmory's spike support, spamming Volt Switch and Expert Belt U-turn is a very powerful strategy which helps you wear the opponents team down. Salamence will usually be able to clean up later in the game as Rotom-W and Landorus will be wearing the opponent down very quickly.

Some changes just to consider I guess. Good Luck.

No recover for latios?
I'll look into that.

It a very very rare occasion if I see Starmie but I did some calcs. Thunderbolt from a LO Starmie does 38.5% - 45.8% to my new Rotom set and if all else fails I can U-Turn with Landorus. Scizor isn't a threat to anyone on my team so I don't worry about it.

Skarm has never been too helpful for me to counter Excadrill probably because I poorly use it just to get hazards up but I would rather use Gliscor. I don't ever let Excadrill set up just for that reason he can kill anything except Landorus in one hit so its been working for me. I'll try out Scarf Rotom.
