Cradily Discussion

Most RMT threads I've looked at recently were all lacking Special walls and I personally hate Blissey, then I noticed Cradily. Decent stats, a nice movepool, and some new moves from D/P.

#346 Cradily
http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/346.shtml

Type: Rock/Grass
Trait: Suction Cups - Pokémon with this Trait use suction cups to anchor themselves, negating the effects of Roar and Whirlwind.

86 HP / 81 Atk / 97 Def / 43 Spd / 81 SpA / 107 SpD

Some of Cradily's better moves:

Physical:
Earthquake
Stone Edge*
Rock Slide

Special:
Energy Ball
Giga Drain
Grass Rope
Ancientpower
Sludge Bomb

Support:
Toxic
Stealth Rock*
Swords Dance
Rock Cart
Rest
Recover
Sandstorm
Protect
Ingrain
Confuse Ray
Amnesia
Substitute
Mirror Coat
Barrier

Cradily's weaknesses are 2x Bug, Fighting, Ice, and Steel. Rock attacks would help against Bug and Ice while Earthquake would handle Steel. There are too many moves I want to give this guy. I would love to hear some suggestions.

I think the most common will still be EQ/Stone Edge/Recover/Stealth Rock, altough it certainly got better with the addition of SR and a better rock move. Also, you may or may not want to use Rest over Recover, because if you use Recover you get owned hard by Toxic. I like Cradily, I use him on my ADV UU team.

if you want a special wall, heres my set i thought up of in 5 minutes:

Cradily@Leftovers
-Stone Edge
-EQ
-Recover
-Amnesia
Careful@180 sp def, 252 hp, 72 atk

hope i helped:)

Too bad Steel sucks so much or I wouldn't mind dropping EQ. Toxic would be nice but it sucks against Steel too.

Would this be doable?

Cradily@Leftovers
-Stone Edge
-Toxic
-Stealth Rock
-Recover
Careful@ 252 Sp Def, 252 HP, 6 Def

Stone Edge deals Stab'd neutral damage to Skarm but against most other Steels you'd have to switch out. Are there any Special Steel pokemon that you'd want to wall with this guy?

Toxic/recover is most likely going the way of the dodo. I never liked toxic anyway, its too damn slow and has the potential to help rather than hinder your opponent.

Eq/stone edge/rest/stealth rock is great, but you can do the barrier/mirror coat thing as well thanks to suction cups. It learns both from tentacruel.

Cradly does have STAB Ancientpower in its special movepool, and also Squeeze.

Squeeze's BP is 20 + (Opponents HP percentage), basically meaning healthy foes get hurt a lot. Once the opponent drops below 70% HP it isn't so great, though.

Heracross is always gonna switch into Cradily, it's best bet at countering is a gimmicky HP Flying I guess, or getting lucky with Toxic on a Swarm Cross.

I'm currently breeding a lileep for DP, and I'm going with the set:

Cradily@Leftovers
[Sassy]
-Swords Dance
-Stone Edge
-Grass Rope/Energy Ball
-Recover

This thing has ages to set up Stealth Rock, I'd probably use Toxic/Stone Edge/Recover/Stealth Rock or something. With a ton of Defense investment it can probably try to go toe to toe with Gyarados as well (though Ice Fang might be a little too much).

In before someone says Amnesia/Barrier/Toxic/Rest. That does not work at all and is just setup fodder for everything with Substitute (there are a lot of those), every Steel or Poison type (there are a lot of Steels), who are going to get a critical hit sometime and will eventually sweep your team.

My favorite Cradily set is Barrier/Toxic/Rest/Mirror Coat. Rest >> Recover because Toxic and WoW shut it down. Kills one or two pokes when used right.

I want to see Swords Dance/EQ/Stone Edge/Recover. Probably fails hard in OU but could be fun to watch in UU.

I guess it makes a good UU Stealth Rock user... I guess Stealth Rock/Toxic/EQ/Recover will generally work outside of OU (since Skarmory laughs at that set).

Alittle off topic but if you think this doesn't work well in OU, what are other acceptable Special walls other than Blissey?

None, really. Snorlax still works to an extent, and I guess Regice too as long as there aren't too many Flare Drive users out there (SR damage kills it though). You just need to batter the opponent before he batters you in this generation.

Grass/Ground is a fairly nice combo in ADV UU, so combined with Stealth rock and Recover, Cradilly is a pretty decent pogey to have around.

Grass/Rock. </nitpick>

I suggested the set Misty posted (Stone Edge/Earthquake/Swords Dance/Recover) in the last Cradily thread, only using Rock Slide over Stone Edge simply because of PP. Stone Edge would probably be more appropriate since even with Swords Dance, Cradily isn't the best attacker. I'm gonna try that out on Competitor once it comes out.

Cradily is Rock/Ground, fyi.
Actually, it's Rock/Grass.

EDIT: Also, Snorlax isn't a good Special wall in D/P by any means. He's 3HKOd by most AG hits, has no instant recover besides Rest, and doens't get Leftovers in Sandstorm.

Keep him away from Focus Bomb and Snorlax does fine as a special wall. Getting 3HKOed isn't too much of a problem when he can at least 2HKO most of the likely Glasses users.

Cradily belongs in the same group as something like Togekiss as far as special walling goes. It can do quite well against some specials, but gets battered by others. He does a good job against something like HP Grass Raikou though.

Numbers of Cradily's Walling:

Timid, Max SAtk AGZAm Psychic on Max/Max +SDef Cradily:
42~49%, 62~74% after SDef drop.

Modest Max SAtk AGZAm Psychic on Max/Max +SDef Cradily:
46~54%, 69~81% after SDef drop.

Timid Max SAtk AGZam Focus Orb on Max/Max +SDef Cradily:
74~87%, OHKO after SDef drop.

Modest Max SAtk AGZam Focus Orb on Max/Max +SDef Cradily:
81~96%, OHKO after SDef drop.

I believe those numbers speak for themselves. A Special wall cannot be 2/3HKO'd by a Special attack. Even Snorlax survives longer. It's still 2HKO'd by Focus Bomb, but not by as large a margin or is able to be 2HKO'd by Psychic.

Otherwise, it does a fine job walling HP Grass Electrics.

Max special attack Zam with Choice Glasses Psychic :

72 - 84% against Togekiss with 0 HP and SDef EVs.
44 - 52% against Togekiss with max HP and SDef EVs and a +SDef nature.
