I don't plan on staying in New Zealand all my life and I'd love to end up working either in the U.S., Canada, or England. Given the rapid progress it's making, heading back home to China is not a bad option either.

A blessing. I get away with ignoring strangers if I pretend I don't speak English. Strangers always get a pleasantly surprised look on their faces when they realise I speak perfect English. Plus I'm bilingual, that's a major fucking plus right there, considering Chinese and English are the two languages that dominate most of the world and are widely believed to be the two hardest languages to learn.

Culturally, how much do your Asian heritage and New Zealand environment influence you, and further, what is more important to you and why?

The laidback Kiwi attitude has definitely taken over my sense of humor and my outlook on life, which is to be expected as I spent most of my formative years here, and even my parents have little influence over this; I feel like the only connection I have with my Asian heritage anymore is the food. But it's because that I'm immersed in the New Zealand environment that I must strive to never lose touch with my roots, and that's why I'd place my Asian heritage higher on the order of importance. I plan to go back and visit China much more regularly, so things on that front are looking up.

What are your feelings about war (when is it justified etc.?)

I don't think war is ever justified, and even if you say it is, it doesn't make it right. Even when there's claims of self defense it usually comes to light later that the main motivation was geopolitical gains. The collateral damage that war causes to a nation is simply abhorrent, and I would encourage countries to always always seek the peaceful option before using war as a last resort. With heavy emphasis on last resort.

And what is your stance on the state of the Chinese Government?

the chinese government is kicking ass and taking names, and showing the rest of the world just how brutally efficient a one party government can be when they have their shit together, especially when you compare it to the paralytic democracy that's going on in the US. to be honest i'd much rather have the government owning chunks of big businesses than to have businesses sending over lobbyists to bribe the government. the chinese government has realised that as long as the people are wealthy and well-fed, there's zero chance of a revolution, and i approve. it's a crying shame that there's still blatant propaganda and censorship in the media though, which is something that pisses me off to no end. ugh you guys are so close...

No offense to the user since I've never interacted with him, but ever since I saw Bologo's username I've thought that it was really an intelligent monkey who was behind all those posts.

So yeah I would name him Bologo.

I was actually 8 but close enough!

I don't think I really felt anything. I had a vague understanding that the move was for my benefit, but overall I was just a little kid who was going with the flow and following my parents wherever they went. Looking back now I realise how clueless I was about the whole thing, and how much my parents sacrificed to immigrate here.

As for cultural misunderstandings, well when I first got here I used to lapse back into Chinese quite a lot, and then not realise I'd done anything out of the ordinary until I saw the confused look on people's faces and that they were all staring at me. One incident that still stands out to me was when I was accidentally poked in the eye by someone's elbow. The other kids kept asking me a question which was basically gibberish to me, so I assumed they were asking if I needed help, to which my response was no. But then the same question kept coming, and even me saying no and shaking my head couldn't stop them, so I eventually said yes and they finally let up. I realised later that they were asking if I was OK, and at that age, their response to me saying no was to...ask if I was OK again and again and again.

I can't think of a story like that, but I can tell you that I've always been afraid of dogs for some reason. I get nervous even if I see a dog behind a fenced gate, though as I've gotten older I've learned to suppress the urge to run the fuck away. I've asked my parents about this and they swear I've never had a bad experience with a dog, so I don't know where this fear comes from. Also when I was real little I was scared of roosters crowing, man those fuckers are loud.

the one where a dumb/new user makes a really stupid/weird thread and a sizeable portion of the badged users post in it making fun of the OP and everyone thinks it's the hottest shit for like two days but then much much later there's still people posting in the thread wanting to get in on the joke and it feels like a stand-up comic not realising that the venue he thinks he's performing in got dismantled last week

It was basically a supposition of where I'd like to work and settle down in the future, but it's funny that you interpret it that way. But yeah, when the time comes I will most likely quit Smogon permanently, especially if I settle in China, but I don't see that happening for a long while yet.

I would tend to support justice over mercy over every time, since to support mercy over justice we must necessarily make the assumption that people are driven by circumstance to perform the crimes that they did, and that ultimately they bear little to no personal responsibility for their actions, which is just bullshit. Justice means that everyone owns up to the crimes that they have committed, and I believe choosing mercy at the possibility of not delivering justice in the end undermines the whole criminal justice system. I support a system that cracks down on offenders, as only a rigorous system can instil faith in the people, and people having faith in the system means that people are more likely to adhere to the law, which is an obviously desirable goal for any society.

I tried to log onto Smogon in China but it was a complete pain in the ass since Youtube and most imagehosting sites were blocked by the Great Firewall of China, making my forum experience shitty and in the end not worth it.

I guess the question would be...where in China have you been, want to visit, and want to ever settle in.

Not counting my hometown, Beijing, Nanjing, and Hong Kong. I plan to go back and visit Shanghai, Shengzheng, Haikou, and probably a couple of other places which are currently undecided. As for the hypothetical of settling down in China, I don't have any special preferences, but maybe somewhere coastal where the pollution isn't as bad.
