Togepi

normal_big.png

[OVERVIEW]

  • Outclassed by most other defensive LC pokemon such as Munchlax.
  • With Eviolite because somewhat of a wall.
[SET]
name: Cleric
move 1: Softboiled
move 2: Heal Bell
move 3: Toxic
move 4: Fire Blast
item: Eviolite
ability: Serene Grace
nature: Calm
EVs: 236 HP / 76 Def / 156 SpD / 36 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Softboiled allows Togepi to heal damage done and potentially stall out opponents.
  • Thunder Wave is to support teammates while Toxic is used to help stall out opponents.
  • Yawn and Charm can both be used to promote switches.
  • Heal Bell is used to protect against status while Seismic Toss is used to have a damaging move.
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

  • EV's and Nature used to equalize Defense and Special Defense.
  • Rapid spinners make good teammates because Stealth Rock turns many 2HKO into OHKO's.
  • Bulky phazers make good teammates as Togepi can easily be set-up on.
[OTHER OPTIONS]

  • A Wish Passer set could work but Togepi has too low of a HP stat.
  • A Paraflinch set could be viable but Togepi struggles to outspeed even paralyzed Pokemon.
[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]

  • Most Fighting types 2HKO Togepi however Togepi has nothing to attack back with.
  • Anything that can set-up on Togepi.
  • Ex. Bulk Up Machop, Nasty Plot Zorua
  • Taunt-users completly shut down Togepi's without Seismic Toss

I just read the thread on who's unfit for a LC analysis and Togepi's on it. Feel free to close this if you want but I think Togepi deserves an analysis.

Yeah that thread's been locked for a while, you're fine.

Anyway, your comments do need quite a bit of work. Mention more teammates, in Additional Comments, such as things to deal with what Togepi can't handle (it needs backup for Fighting-types at the least).

And really I don't think anyone uses Specs Abra.

I'll take a closer look later, but keep those things in mind and you should be able to make this analysis work!

Outclassed by most other LC pokemon.

Make sure to explain what Pokemon outclasses Togepi and how Togepi differentiates from them. What makes Togepi unique and what kinds of team would Togepi fit in on; its ideal niche.

Alright, the set you have right now is horrible, sorry but it's pretty obvious. I've been doing some damage calcs and looking into Togepi and I came up with probably the best set it can do and I will not stamp this analysis until you either change it to it, or at least suggest something better.

Honestly guys, Togepi really isn't extremely bad. Seriously why does everyone in LC hate Togepi so bad, it's not even majorly outclassed, it's the best Heal Bell user in LC. It's one of three Pokemon with an instant recovery move and Heal Bell, the other two being Swablu and Chingling, who both have horrid typing for a Special Sponge, when considering the most common special attackers.

[SET]
name: Cleric
move 1: Softboiled
move 2: Heal Bell
move 3: Toxic
move 4: Fire Blast
item: Eviolite
ability: Serene Grace
nature: Calm
EVs: 236 HP / 76 Def / 156 SpD / 36 Spe

-Softboiled for instant recovery, it recovers 12 damage each Softboiled since Recover rounds up (confirmed in-game), which is useful to know for the below section.

-Heal Bell for team support and to help you take down Toxic using walls, such as Slowpoke and Lileep.

-Toxic for stalling out Pokemon

-Fire Blast to 2HKO Ferroseed, Magnemite, Pawniard and to help with taking down Life Orb Gastly, it also has a nifty 20% burn chance thanks to Serene Grace. Togepi has such a large movepool, that there's a handful of options that can also go over this slot.

-Other Options include: Thunder Wave / Body Slam is good for crippling some of Togepi's biggest counters, such as Mienfoo and Moxie Scraggy, Psychic is ok for random Poison-types, but they are relatively uncommon and Psychic is very weak off of only 10 SpA, it doesn't even 3HKO Tentacool, 2HKO Eviolite Mienfoo, or OHKO Gastly, Light Screen is ok for better taking on several stronger Special Attackers as well as further supporting the team, Reflect works in the same vein, but with Fighting-types so common, they would break through Togepi anyway, Wish and/or Protect could go over any move except Toxic, but make sure to compare the set with Cleffa as it has Magic Guard on its side, despite slightly lower stats, Encore, Yawn, Counter, Sweet Kiss and some kind of crappy Nasty Plot set are its only other viable options. Please note that Tri Attack is illegal in LC, thanks to the only Togepi that can learn the move being level 25.

-A Bold nature can be used to take several random physical hits better, such as dodging a 2HKO from a Scarf Adamant Taillow's Brave Bird. It only has few significant drawbacks on the special side, since 15 is apparently a special non Eviolite number. The drawbacks include: Eviolite Timid Max SpA Houndour now 2HKOs you with Fire Blast, Gastly does one more damage on average with STAB Sludge Bomb/Hidden Power Fighting, Snover's Giga Drain does one more damage on average, and random neutral Hidden Power attacks from most Special attackers do one more damage on average (but most of those are from like 5 to 6 damage).

-An alternate EV Spread of 236 HP / 76 Def / 76 SpD / 116 Spe would still include the previously mentioned drawbacks, but it gives you 10 Speed allowing you to outspeed 9 speed Lileep and Wynaut, so you can Toxic them before they Encore you or whatever.

-Another alternate EV Spread of 236 HP / 236 SpD / 36 Spe would only help with making Eviolite Timid Max SpA Omanyte's Hydro Pump fail to 2HKO, Snover's Giga Drain do one damage less, and other obscure usually uneeded things like that.

-Another alternate EV Spread of 236 HP / 76 Def / 36 SpA / 156 SpD can be used for a slightly stronger Fire Blast, but the extra speed point is usually more useful speed tieing with 12 Spe EVs Wynaut and Lileep, as well as outspeeding Slowpoke.

Special Walling

(23 HP, 14 Def, 16 SpD before Eviolite)

-To start, I'll list the most common special attackers in LC (please tell me if I miss any): Staryu, Chinchou, Gastly, Clamperl, Houndour, and Snover.

What it beats

With this sets EVs, Togepi will take this much from an Eviolite 16/17 SpA 120 BP STAB move, which includes: Timid Max SpA Staryu, Modest Max SpA Chinchou, Timid Max SpA Houndour, Timid Max SpA Clamperl, and a Modest Max SpA Snover.

9 - 12 (39.13% - 52.17%) - Average of 10 damage

The above is also true for a Choice Scarf Modest Gastly's Sludge Bomb.

--

Togepi will take this much from an Eviolite 19 SpA 90 BP STAB move, which includes: Timid Max SpA Gastly

7 - 10 (30.43% - 43.48%) - Average of 9 damage

Togepi will take this much from an Eviolite 19 SpA 70 BP Super-effective move, which includes: Timid Max SpA Gastly

10 - 12 (43.48% - 52.17%) - Average of 10 damage, yes I know that's also the minimum, LC calcs are weird like that

What it has trouble with

Togepi is 2HKOd by all of them, should any of them run a LO (or Deepseatooth in Clamperl's case) and hit Togepi with their respective 120 BP STAB move, or 90 Base Power move in Gastly's case.

All LO: Timid Max SpA Staryu, Modest Max SpA Chinchou, Modest Max SpA Snover, Timid Max SpA Houndour

12 - 15 (52.17% - 65.22%) - Average of 13 damage

Any rare Pokemon with Eviolite and 18 SpA and up + 120 BP STAB, such as Omanyte, will also 2HKO you:

10 - 13 (43.48% - 56.52%) - Average of 12 damage

Togepi could stall out the Special attackers, however, should it catch them on the switch with Toxic.

--

LO Timid Max SpA Gastly's Sludge Bomb:

10 - 13 (43.48% - 56.52%) - Average of 12 damage

LO Timid Max SpA Gastly's Hidden Power Fighting:

10 - 14 (43.48% - 60.87%) - Average of 12 damage, Softboiled Recovers exactly 12 HP too

Gastly, however, is a special case. Since it is immune to Toxic, you have to take repeated Sludge Bomb / Hidden Power Fighting hits until you dwindle down its HP to at least 11 HP with repeated Softboiled's, so you can OHKO it the next hit when combined with LO recoil, on average.

Togepi does 9 - 11 (47.37% - 57.89%) - Average of 10 damage with Fire Blast on Life Orb Gastly, which is one of the reasons why you want to use Fire Blast over Flamethrower.

Put the above information into your own words or something and add it into your analysis, then I'll take a look at it, thanks.

Should mention that togepi loses if dour switches in on fire blast... als check looks good once everything is updated...

Once it is, QD APPROVED 2/2

Al should probably say something before it goes to copyediting though
