Jirachi (Charge Beam)

This set utilizes Jirachi's move Charge Beam with its great base 100 SpA and Spe.

Jirachi

[SET]
name: Charge Beam
move 1: Charge Beam
move 2: Flash Cannon
move 3: Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Shadow Ball / Wish
item: Leftovers / Life Orb
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Why this set deserves to be on-site:
-The presence of other Jirachi sets forces a lot of switches, times that Jirachi can set up the Charge Beam on
-Jirachi has perfect neutral coverage with the above listed attacks

Additional Comments:
-Wish can be used for recovery if needed
-Great defenses provide plenty of opportunity for set up

Teammates & Counters:
-Things that remove Special Walls such as Ferrothorn and Blissey are great partners (HP Fire will OHKO Ferrothorn even without a boost)
-Blissey is an excellent counter to Jirachi, as it will switch in and can beat it with Seismic Toss.

Use Calm Mind. And HP Fire will not OHKO Ferrothorn without a boost...and you have Shadow Ball...adfasjdfjsajfds.

What's this got over Calm Mind sets?

Your Jirachi dies too quickly with Life Orb instead of Lefties, and no wish slashed in. (Yes, I do see it in AC)

It just doesn't have the staying power of a Calm Mind set in my opinion, plus Jirachi is much better off using Calm Mind, while leaving something like a Rotom-form to use Charge Beam.

EDIT: Ninja'd

But why would you use Charge Beam over Calm Mind? The latter guarantees you the SpA boost and also gives you a SpD boost, whilst Charge Beam only gives you a 63% chance of a boost with the accuracy factored in. If you desperately need an Electric attack, use Thunderbolt over Shadow Ball.

Also, double ninja'd. :P

Sorry, had Modest in when I ran that calculation. Without any boosts, it still deals a minimum of 92% to Ferrothorn which will KO it with SR up.

I agree for leftovers, and I'll slash in Wish.

The difference is that this set takes an immediate offensive that CM doesn't. It's the same reason you use any CB set.

Choice Banders are usually very threatening. What is so threatening about a Life Orb Charge Beam? So being "immediatly offensive" is a poor point in my opinion.

Calm Mind guarantees a boost, and doesn't make you worry about grounds switching in. It also boosts your special defense, which means you can set up a couple of boosts on a weaker special attacker for instance.

I agree to some extent, I'm not suggesting this be the primary moveset for Jirachi, but I do see that it could be a valid moveset.

Charge Beam does pathetic damage and there is pretty much no reason to run this over Calm Mind.
This is directly outclassed, I don't see your point of "immediate offensiveness" when Charge Beam is effectively a Calm Mind that trades the sure SpA boost and SpD boost for a really, really weak attack.

Agreed, Charge Beam should only be used when it has STAB and there are no other boosting options, otherwise it's just uncompetitive.

So what I'm getting out of this is that there is no way whatsoever to make this moveset better, so everyone is just going to turn it down?

BTW: That was an actual question, not meant to offend anyone.

Yeah, if you playtested this, try Superachi (CM + 3 attacks) in that slot instead. You'll realize it's much more reliable, can set up on more stuff, and is less prone to be revenge killed.

Technically this will only be locked after 3 QC rejections but yeah, it's as good as done.

In the future, don't be afraid of posting sets you've had success with!

An unSTAB 50 BP move does not "an immediate offensive" make. And for the record, the only reason Charge Beam is ever used is when the Pokemon either doesn't have access to any other boosting moves (Jolteon and Rotom-A) or doesn't have room (Cresselia, specifically RestTalk variants that need multi-type coverage).
