Finally, after two years gone, I've decided to try and worm my way back into competitve battling! I've never had a special knack for it, possibly because I've never had the time to practice or really truly invent a team that was able to cover itself well. I'm considering going in for Battling 101, and if I'm allowed, I'd like to use this team, or a variant of its members. I created this team for that prospect, to go ahead and get a little team building in. So I present to the lovely users of RMT:
My first team member, and the inspiration for this theme (unsurprisingly), is Heatran. Heatran's always been a favorite of mine. It's an amazing mon for having such a glaring weakness in Ground, plus its stats are not too shabby in either department. I chose OverheaTran because of its sheer power. In today's metagame, not many people expect to see Heatran both with Overheat, and the item I chose to equip it with: Choice Specs. Specs Tran deals awesome amounts of damage, especially under the Sun, which is farily common.
In my past battling experience, I knew that Pokemon with Specs appreciate fast Pokemon that work in tandem with them as cleaners. I considered putting Starmie or Jolteon in this place but I ultimately decided upon Latios. With its Life Orb, Latios achieves great damage output. Its Base 110 Speed Stat is comfortably fast, and not many Pokemon can withstand its constant Draco Meteors. Surf is also a great move, as Rain is also common in OU. Hidden Power Fire rounds off the coverage, for things like Ferrothorn or Skarmory.
The next teammate I chose to support Latios, as well as act as a Fighting resistance for Heatran. Gliscor is a fun Pokemon to play with. Taunt is a gem in Gliscor's moveset, easily dismantling Pokemon like Skarmory, Ferrothorn, Scizor, and even other Gliscor. I chose Facade over Ice Fang, as I find Facade deals greater damage over the course of the match. Ice Fang itself isn't sorely needed on my team, as opposing Dragons are generally dealt with by Latios. Facade also deals more damage against Skarmory, and works just as well versus other Gliscor. Gliscor is a great check to Pokemon like Tyranitar and Scizor, who give Latios some trouble. Latios returns this favor by helping Gliscor with Pokemon such as Rotom-W.
Wish support from Blissey is just awesome. What with Wish's new mechanics this year, Blissey is capable of fully healing my entire team. She's great at sponging Special attacks that Gliscor and Latios can't deal with, while also being helped out with her Fighting weakness by Gliscor.
Where would Blissey be without her good buddy Skarmory? Skarm is here to dole out Spikes, and she is awesome. She takes attacks from Physical Pokemon such as Scizor and Gliscor like a champ. I love Whirlwind on this team because it's usually very easy to stack up entry hazards. I find Brave Bird on Skarmory to be surprisingly powerful against opponents who think they can stay in and setup on it.
The second pink blob I decided on was Jellicent. I realized entry hazards were an essential asset to this team. Heatran scores 2HKOs and OHKOs with them, as does Latios and Gliscor. So, I needed a spin blocker that also was able to take Water and Ice type attacks easily. Jellicent is also a great status spreader with Will-O-Wisp at its disposal. Oftentime, she easily gets the upper hand on Ferrothorn with burn and Taunt, which allows Pokemon like Gliscor or Skarmory to set up either offensively, or hazards.
Heatran (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Overheat
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power Grass
I realize Toxic is a weird choice here, and am highly considering replacing it with Hidden Power Grass. I initially had Flamethrower in the fourth slot, but foud I never used it. Toxic's a fun way to mislead your opponent, but usually I simply use a coverage move such as Dragon Pulse.
EDIT: Replaced Toxic with HP Grass. So far, I haven't been in a situation I sorely need it.
Skarmory (F) @ LeftoversTrait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird
Standard Skarmory here, except with Brave Bird over Taunt. This prevents Skarmory from being Taunt bait itself, while Brave Bird deals good damage to Pokemon that Skarmory could beat otherwise.
Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Recover
Latios is, as stated above, my cleaner. I'm considering possibly changing Lati to a Choice Scarf set, to serve better as a revenge killer, as well as beat out +1 Dragonite. However, so far Latios has functioned well in its role, and I'm quite happy with it.
Gliscor (F) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Taunt
- Facade
Gliscor is quite possibly my favorite Pokemon on the team. It does so much so well.. It beats Pokemon like Conkeldurr easily, and becomes quite powerful after a Swords Dance. Again, Facade over Ice Fang, it's much more consistent.
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 216 SDef / 40 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- Body Slam
- Wish
- Stealth Rock
Jirachi is my replacement for Blissey, and so far it's worked wonderfully. It's awesome at taking Rock-, Ice-, and Dragon-type moves. I finally have room for Stealth Rock without sacrificing anything big. Jirachi operates wonderfully as a Wish Passer.
Gastrodon-Ea (Gastrodon-East) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Earth Power
- Recover
Excellent versus Rotom-W, and assorted Water-types. Gastrodon also helps with the Dragons, such as Latios, and does an effective job passing Toxic around. Overall, a better Pokemon for my team than Jellicent, though I sometimes miss Burn.
Overall, I'm familiar with my threats and am mainly looking for criticism so I can improve on the team. I sometimes have trouble with bulky Waters, such as Vaporeon and opposing Jellicent, as I really have no way of damaging them besides brute force. Blissey is capable of taking on Vaporeon, but Jellicent is unaffected by both Scald from my own, and Seismic Toss on Blissey. This is usually rectified by pure power from Latios, and good use of entry hazards. I've played about thirty or fourty matches with this team, and I've grown quite comfortable with it. However, if anyone sees anything changeable or wrong, help perfecting it would be greatly appreciated.

Jirachi has since replaced Blissey. While Jirachi isn't as bulky as Blissey, its resistances play a key part in helping out its teammates. Jirachi easily spreads paralysis, while also setting up valuable SR without sacrificing anything. ParaFlinch is very nasty, allowing Jirachi to win some one-on-ones it otherwise would lose.

I replaced Jellicent with Gastrodon, and so far Gastrodon has synergized much better with its teammates than Jellicent did. Though I miss the Fighting immunity, and the trolling of Infernape, Gastrodon has effectively countered all forms of Water-types. Toxic is great here.

This rounds out my team. I've had great success with it on PO's server. I've not yet wandered into the rated ladder with it, as I'm trying to perfect it.
