The Everything NHL Thread

I'm actually embarrassed for Backstrom on that one. You can see him just watching the puck move from side to side while Kane stands there. He definitely should've played that a bit more aggressively once he noticed Kane was slowing down/coming to a complete stop. His poke check attempt was hilarious though. He was like "hey i guess i should poke...wait! no! he might shoot!"

Everyone should be watching HBO's 24/7

I've attached a full length youtube clip for everyone's pleasure.

They are. Bryz and Torts are as good as anticipated but Anisimov surprise star atm. Most of the players are pretty interesting outside of a few lameasses like Richards though, should wind up being a fun few episodes.

HBO has this weird tendency to randomly zoom in and out during interviews which is usually super annoying but in Bryz's case is pretty funny since it makes him seem even more off-his-fucking-rocker-crazy somehow.

Pronger out for the rest of the season and playoffs. Wow.

What a fucking joke of reffing by the refs tonight. Tonight is probably the worst reffing I've seen in any Canucks game this season.

Oh and that guy named Ward. He's pretty good.

Ovie is a piece of shit. Jets first lost in 6 games at home...

Neuvirth shut out? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ??? ? ? ? ? ?

And yea, great start to the 24/7 mini series this year. Incredible work so far. Both teams are very fun to watch. King Henrik seems like the nicest guy.

I slowly went from :| to :D as I read the Milbury article and thought about where that could lead

Also man I feel bad for Mason Raymond on that clip he totally deserved an assist :(

Whoa, I should turn on the tv, maybe. GM Gauthier is the one that should have been fired.

Randy Cunneyworth is the new coach "per interim". I might break something....

Gauthier really has to go. The ownership in Montreal is way too complacent.

Don't be too down on Cunneyworth, he used to coach the Sabres affiliate in Rochester (Americans). IIRC he won the Calder Cup with them a couple times, or at the very least got there.

Frankly, I don't care if he's God's gift to hockey coaching or not and he probably is a great guy but we haven't had a coach that couldn't speak a word of French in 40 years and that's a trend that was just broken.

I don't expect many to understand this sort of a reaction versus one they perceive should be 'get the best coach available no matter the languages he can speak', but this is an organization that has historically always been a bearer of québécois French national pride and culture that will now hold all it's coach press points in English in front of a mostly French media and fanbase. Dare I say, it has this extra role that most other teams don't.

No need to tell me that as a another team's fan, the coach's languages would be the least of your worry, I fully believe it. You do not live in an environment in which a language overwhelmingly pressures the one you belong to, likely don't see more to languages than a simple communication code and do not see every small setback as part of a threat to it and the culture to which it is intrinsically linked.

The very least they could do is not believe people to be complete idiots by calling it a 'per interim' thing. If Cunneyworth enjoys some success they certainly won't show him the door, so can they just call him the official head coach and deal with the criticism like men instead of implying it is an emergency and temporary move?

That there contract holdout probably had something to do with it, pretty irreparable harm to relationship with organization (and maybe his career)

Also don't fire Jacques he's adorable ;_;

Rundblad's severely overrated, but it's still a big risk for Murray. IIRC Rundblad had said in the beginning of the year that if he didn't make the team, he'd go back to Sweden rather than report to Binghamton (AHL afiliate). This is key since his defence is piss poor and going to Sweden won't fix that. I've always been high on Turris, so I really hope this works out.
