laughs in D/P...

Though they're not known for it, the pokemon games do have a wee bit of humor shining through here and there. This topic is simply a place to post those amusing gleams that you've discovered...

One of my personal favorites is the female swimmer just outside of the 8th Gym town (can't remember the name at the moment). After you battle her: "When I wear a bikini, I don't know where to put my Pokeballs!".

Skuntank's cry is a classic; I do believe it's the only pokemon cry to make me laugh out loud.

Though it's more frustrating now, the continual stupidity of the populace of Hoenn, Sinnoh, etc regarding the origin of pokemon eggs. "Where do they come from? Does somebody put them there?" I wonder what those people tell their kids when they ask about human babies...

There's already a topic about this in Firebot. :/

The wild Regigigas can't get it going because of its Slow Start!

Ah yes, how could I forget that one. I continually wonder at why the translators put the "it" in there. You have to believe they added the "it" deliberately, as without it the sentence makes perfect sense. Dirty Gamefreak translators (or whoever did it)...

A cookie for whoever goes to the ending credits and gets the name of the Japanese/English translator.

dangit you're right. Ugh, I must be cursed to always miss like topics when I search for them. Curse my unobservant traits.

In the first encounter with Team Galactic, they say that they will "avoid causing massive damage" to Lucas, a reference to the E3 2006 Sony conference.

Pokedex entries:

Quagsire:
A dim-witted pokemon. It doesn't care if it bumps its head into boats or rocks while swimming.

Magikarp:
It always splashes about for some reason.

Roselia:
Don't even think about picking those flowers.

Someone in the town with the first gym says you're a noob if you don't have a badge or something along those lines. And someone in another gym later on also says that.

When I first saw Bidoof I just lol'd IRL. I mean c'mon look at it and it's name.

One of the grunts says "Cosmic energy for the win!" Also, somebody elsewhere says "A winner is you!" Clearly the localisation team are not unfamiliar with internet culture.

Good topic though, the sheer inanity of the NPCs has always been my major motivation for interacting with them; they're never less than charming. I'm not sure any particular expression this gen has matched the sheer brilliance of "I like shorts, they're comfy and easy to wear!" from Red and Blue. You do wonder if its those kerrazy japanese, or an idiosyncratic translation team.

WTF Is up with Drifblim's cry? I swear, Drifblim + Kricketune + Staraptor = Pokemon Orchestra Rock Band

Regigigas has a nice cry too. If you put them on your team and select the pokétch thing where you check their status you can hear their cry by tapping them with the stylus. You can make some nice music this way :]

Lol is also in the dictionary, lol.

The music in the game corner is also like... wtf? It's good but it's very non-pokémon.

If I was a DJ, i'd bust that shit out in a club, and they'd shitting love it. I'd then freestyle some Pokemon MCing over it, like DIGLETT DIGLETT DROWSEE YO, which would likely go down less well.

Actually, you can fight the shorts kid in the Battle Tower. He says something like "I still like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear!"

all the people on wifi battle tower say one thing (so far)
Please! COME ON!
i first thought it said
Please? Come on.

Also Bibarel made me lol when i saw that bucktoothed grin of his.
