The Everything NHL Thread

Wonder how many games ovi will get for that dumb ass hit on Michalek.

Does anyone else think that Michalek should be somewhat spared a suspension simply because there was a point in which he could have hit ovi twice as hard (and dangerous) as he was hit while ovi was stumbling next to the boards. While his other hit was still dirty, he showed immense restraint on ovi. I would have absolutely crushed ovechkin if i were him.

Also fuck having Sharp, Toews, Benn, Buff, and RNH all out......Neal is playing (dominating actually) for me with a broken ass foot.

EDIT: literally as I post this, 3 games for Ovi. He dodged a bullet with this imo, he clearly intended to injure.

Fantasy team is taking a huge hit. Have Sharp, Toews, Crosby, Briere all injured.

Also, seconding/thirding/xxxxxing everyone else on Thomas. I don't give a fuck what your political beliefs are, but when the president of your nation invites you to the White House taking time out of his schedule to honor you, you accept. I'm probably too young for this, but there probably was a time when being respectful of a president wasn't a Republican/Democrat thing.

Also his statement out of that event was essentially "I did not go to the White House not because of my political beliefs, but because of my political beliefs"

If Rasheed Wallace, leader in Tech Fouls in the NBA, sucked it up to visit Bush while publicly airing that he hated him, I'm sure Timmy can man up and go for a photo op, without bringing a media circus.

In Thomas's defense however, he was defending himself against the much taller Barack Obama.

Glenn Beck, I wonder if I can still like Thomas as much as before...

But that he no-showed the White House doesn't really bother me. If I were a player and won the cup with a Canadian team, I wouldn't be tempted to dress up to meet the Canadian PM.

In other news, they had better add Letang to the ASG.

I wouldn't give Obama a photo op either if I was famous. Respect is earned, not commanded. I'm glad to know that the US is so well off that our President can spend time taking pictures with sports teams! This is a complete non-issue. Kudos to Thomas for standing up for what he believes in, even if he does believe Glenn Beck is a great guy (even though Glenn Beck may have raped and murdered a girl in 1990). It's just ironic because Thomas is one of the few American players on that team and he snubbed him.

You have two amazing goalies in Boston, basically a 1-A and 1-B, Rask could easily start for any other team. That's a great problem to have.

I guess, but it's still disappointing to see 1-B out there in a milestone game like that one. Although I like that they're playing the long game, and they got into first place by the end of the weekend on the virtue of a tiebreaker. The only team in the league with more points than them is Detroit, who has played 3 more games. I can live with that.

Who cares if Tim Thomas likes some stupid political talk show host and doesn't like the President? He is still a good teammate and appears to be a great person whenever the spotlight is on him. It's not like the guy came out and said he was a racist and wants to get some genocide going on. I find it funny that people have lost respect for the guy. "Man!!! HE DISAGREES WITH ME ON POLITICS! DISRESPECT!" If I decided to start disliking musicians and actors and other famous people because of their political beliefs, then I'd be missing out on a lot of good shit! I've had several friends and family members that I disagree with when it comes to politics/religion. I don't lose respect for them because of it.

Also, this doesn't make sense:

If Rasheed Wallace, leader in Tech Fouls in the NBA, sucked it up to visit Bush while publicly airing that he hated him, I'm sure Timmy can man up and go for a photo op, without bringing a media circus.

???

Justin not sure which part didn't make sense but I think I know what you mean. Wallace said (paraphrased) that he was only going to the White House out of respect for his organization, not because he liked George Bush. My point was, if Wallace, a leader in tech fouls, can suck up his pride to visit the president, regardless of personal likes or dislikes, then Thomas can suck it up and visit him.

I have the utmost respect for Thomas as a player; he's the best NHL goalie along with Lundqvist this season. However, as a person, he stands out to me as petty and disrespectful.

Also the Boston Globe ran a great article on this but I'm too lazy to link.

The real question is... why would he even be allowed to play in the all-star game if he's suspended(because he's an ratings draw, obviously, but I mean from a moral standpoint)?

Fuck Ovi. Toews being out is the real bummer here. Both Winnipeg reps are out...(Buff and Toews (hometown is Winnipeg). Who's going to replace him...Skinner?

Im hoping to see something like Lupul - Malkin/Giroux/Datsyuk - Kessel or Hossa / Gaborik - Hank - Daniel. Obviously Chara and Weber on the same PP unit would be hilarious. I would hate to be at the front of the net dealing with 105 mph slapshots from both pointmen...

I will add this to my list of reasons I love Cory Schneider. I knew there had to be something other than "convenient excuse to troll fans of Roberto Luongo"... The Thomas thing is something I'm ready to have fade away, but it definitely hurts the credibility of a guy who had such a squeaky clean team guy image before. He's originally frown a town 20 minutes from me and I think given his age and upbringing and this situation I can kind of imagine what kind of guy he is a little better now.

Also Neal and Eriksson have been two of the most underrated forwards in the NHL by the average fan/media member for a couple years now, figured Neal would get out of that when he got traded to Pittsburgh but apparently not. Neal is one of those players I'm kind of attached to as a fan -- I owned him in fantasy as a rookie and sophomore and followed his career pretty closely because I watched the Stars for Turco at first and later for their commentators and for him. He's the least marketed pure goal scorer in the league. Eriksson is a perennial winner of most underrated player polls in the NHLPA but the media never seems to catch on.
