SUBMIT! (Mono-Dark Discussion)

This is no rate-my-team... because I don't have one, yet. That being said I hope this is the right place.

I want to make a mono-dark team, firstly for in-game because it seems like an awesome challenge. But secondly I'd like a competitive mono-dark team. Problem is I see any decent fighting type sweeping my team like nobody's business.

As far as I know Honchkrow is my most viable option that's not an uber for dealing with nasty fighting types like Machamp. But his speed is fairly poor, and if he goes down it's lights out for my entire team. How can I fix this, or is the idea of a mono-dark team laughable?

Salabye/Spiritomb is part Ghost

Don't forget about Spiritomb who is immune to fighting attacks and has Hypnosis, high defenses, and CM.

Edit: Beaten.

Also look into Drapion, it has a 100 defense base and poison/dark dual type makes it neutral to fighting. Skuntank maybe also worth looking into for Aftermath as it may hurt some sweeps significantly, being a Dark team you will have to expect being on the end of massive sweeps sooner or later. The fact that either are also neutral to Bug the other major Dark weakness is a bonus.

The problem with a pure Dark team isn't so much the weaknesses but majority of them have HORRIBLE support movepools. It'll be nothing more than a team of raw sweepers. Absol is the only one who learns something resembling support but just doesn't have the stats to use them and is better crit haxing.

For reference: all the Pokes I'm looking at.

Umbreon
Houndoom
Tyranitar
Mightyena
Shiftry
Sableye
Sharpedo
Crawdaunt
Absol
Honchkrow
Skuntank
Spiritomb
Drapion
Weavile
Darkrai (in-game only)

I see everyone's suggestions about Spiritomb as well as Drapion. I defenitely want to play with both.

As I plan to include HM use to the dark type policy, Honchkrow is a must, as well as any dark type that might make a good HM slave.

If I could get my hands on a member's pass I'd like to catch Darkrai too, if only to smash the elite four

edit: *keeps mind on Choice Scarf* :P

Umbreon is nothing but a support pokemon.. Mean Look + Baton Pass + Wish

Forgot Umbreon. But yeah Umbreon is a definite.

As for in game Dark mono team theres no real point in asking for help....anything can do fine in game. Competitive is the only thing worth discussing really.

Definitely use Tyranitar and Weavile, after that the best ones would probably be Spiritomb and Drapion. Darkrai is great too if you can get a good legit one.

Use these 6:

Weavile
Spiritomb
Umreon
Tyranitar
Houndoom
Honchkrow/Sharpedo

Sharpedo learns Earthquake/Ice Fang/Crunch/Waterfall.

This totally takes the place of Gyarados and instead of Dragon Dance, he gets ASCARF.

Gyarados does the same thing with: Dragon Dance/Water Fall/Ice Fang/Earthquake.

But Sharpedo gets 2 STAB moves. (Crunch Replaces Dragon Dance).

If you use anything, then use Tyranitar (and Darkrai if you can get it). Tyranitar is probably one of the most threatening Pokemon in the game; its advantages far outweigh Sandstream hurting yourself. Umbreon is sort of a double-edged blade; on one hand, it's one of the few Dark walls, but then again, it is the most gigantic switch-in bait ever.

Actually, Umbreon on a mono-dark team equals a Heracross sweep. All of your Pokemon should be able to do something to heracross, even if it means less covergae. The only Umbreon that accomplishes this is CharmBreon.

I used to use:

Charm:
Wish
Mean Look
Baton Pass

It works really well, and you can totally work a number on Heracross, Curse SNorlax, Dragon Dance Salamence/Dragonite/Gyarados/Tyranitar without Taunt. Umbreon can survive a Mega Horn as long as Hera doesn't have Life Orb, or CB.

I had a 128 Def, 128 Special Defense, 252 HP, BOLD Nature Umbreon.

Since Umbreon has a little less Defense than Special Defense, Bold helps its Defense catch up, and handle physical Attacks in general better.

Anything else I should consider when choosing a team of dark types?

Oh, as for in-game, I want dark-type HM slaves as well... Last time I checked, only Crawdaunt and Sneasel/Weavile are any good at it, and I don't think any of them get Rock Climb(!?).

I think Tyranitar gets Rock Climb, (and its a rock Type, so it really should, even if it is a Normal Attack).

Honchkrow gets Fly right?

Yes it does.

I followed a guide that didn't need Defog, so that TM is out.

Drapion also gets rock climb, so perhaps I'll use him for that as well.
