Building a team without those 10 Pokemon is gonna be pretty hard. HO without Scizor/Landorus/Terrakion/Rotom-W is hard, so I guess balance is the way to go (I don't want to play Sun)

Sun gives access to some pretty underrated walls, can't really tell what is going to happen and wherether it is possible without Heatran.

Update #1: So far so good. I have found that the only way to use Ninetales well is by using the Sunny Day set, otherwise you will never have your weather up like with Defensive Ninetales. Luckily Ninetales can still contribute with Will-o-Wisp, which she often gets because she lures in many Pokes. The centerpiece of my team has been Cresellia, what a defensive beast it is. It has beaten a +3 Bulky Dnite, +2 Landorus, and +2 Salamence (Dragon Claw does 50% with no Reflect!) 1 vs 1 with Ice Beam+Reflect. Moonlight makes it almost impossible to take down in the Sun; it gets back to pretty much full health with Lefties+Moonlight (66%+6%=72%!) Add Psychic in the mix (which I have) and it can take on fighting types too. With Skarmory and Donphan, almost all physical threats in the game are beaten. Roserade has Weather Ball meaning it can save EV's that it would otherwise had to spend to have the OHKO on certain threats with HP Fire (ex. Scizor). Roserade Toxic Spikes take down Tyranitar and Politoed with ease as well as Starmie when it comes in to Spin. My only problem so far has been finding a Spin blocker and for know Chandelure is doing pretty well. Chandelure allows a Fire immunity so I don't get wrecked by Fire Moves myself and of course makes an awesome powerhouse against teams.
 
Sun stall is an interesting concept! I've been wanting to experiment with it for a while now but I never got around to it. Are you using Harvest Tropius? It sounds like a lot of fun :d

I was using Harvest Exeguttor with Leech Seed, but unfortunately Sun is really pressed for spots to use on a team (basically a Poke down with Ninetales). The two standout Pokes have been Roserade and Donphan. Donphan of course has his water weakness been removed and always been an excellent spinner in Sun. Roserade has Weather Ball meaning she doesn't have to do any EV shenanigans to assure the OHKO on CB Scizors. As a matter of fact Weather Balls 150 Base Power+Pseudo-Stab of Sun makes it her stronger move, double the power of Giga Drain! Other good pokes are WishMence and Creeselia (moonlight is still subpar)
 
Had a nice run at the start...handling rain stalls seems to be the most difficult thing so far without Rotom-W.

just chuck in a Virizion (SD is usually best) since that thing just fucks up 90% of all Rain Stall Teams
 
Cresselia seems like a really good choice, and I've seen it used effectively, though its typing does leave something to wish for. Has sand been a problem for you, ThePillsburyDoughBoy? I feel like sand could effectively shut down teams with little offense, though I admit that Roserade and Donphan are decent options against it.
 
Hey just a quick question: Do we have to change our alt for team modifications or just total team changes. For example, I swapped out 2 Pokemon; does that warrant a change of alt?

And this is a very interesting project. It's caused me to discover Moxie Honchkrow who can be pretty powerful even in OU.
 
To answer that, no, you do not have to change your alt for modifying a team, but if you're using a completely new team, please do change alts! Thank you for asking! Also, Moxie Honchkrow sounds interesting! Are you using a Substitute set with Life Orb and Roost? :d

Thanks and indeed I am. For now I'm using the standard set on the analysis but I might drop Roost for another attack move/use Lefties instead of Life Orb. But I just made the change to Honchkrow today so I'm going to battle more before I decide. He seems to work well though especially if I can get a Sub up on a switch or something, but anyway we'll see.

But you have to remember: these teams are being used against the Standard OU tier, not just against other teams which follow these restrictions. As such, Politoed, Tyranitar, and Heatran are on your opponents teams so you do have to account for them.

If you are using Honchkrow as a wall breaker (mid game or so) using Hidden Power [ground] or [fire] or using pursuit can really boost its ability to take important things out, especially since pursuit on something weakened will usually kill it = auto moxie boost. Otherwise the HPs help take out Magnezone (2x flying resist), Metagross, Ferrothorn (Brave bird recoil + iron barbs = ouch normally), and other random steels.

If it is being used as a late game sweeper (making sure steels are eliminated) roost is probably a better option especially if you don't always get the SR removed.

I used him very extensively in RU... before 4 days ago that is...

So guys, I'm really interested to know how you've been faring! I've noted that sand offense can be really problematic given that you can't use Terrakion, Landorus, or Rotom-W. How are you guys dealing with them? Are you using Skarmory to soak up those hits and a sweeper to counter-sweep? I feel like the most effective team at this point would be stall, given how many sweepers I have banned. However, I know Salamence is still allowed, so is anyone experimenting with any of his sets?

Also I'm wondering if you guys are going back to a heavier offensive style of play. You know, the Deoxys-D + 5 assorted sweepers kind of team. I think that may not be a tough thing to do given Deoxys-D's relatively easy setup of hazards.

For those of you using hail, has VoltTurn been problematic? I feel like with all the Pokemon successful hail teams are forced to run (Abomasnow, spinner, etc.), it may be tougher to ladder with those, given there is so much sand in our metagame. Anyhow, what are you doing to be successful?!
 
HO 5 sweeper teams don't work because Scizor and Terrakion and Dragonite are banned according to this challenge.

Sun Stall doesn't work because VoltTurn shits on it. I've gotten to 1350 using this weird stall team because the sun stall team I was using doesn't work at all against the common VoltTurn team.
 
Imma just write the team i used so far, i'll make some more detailed post when i'll reach my goal : having more than 1400 pts at least.

Team 1
Hippodown / Blissey / Skarmory / Gliscor / Togekiss / Starmie

- Sand Stall i quickly built, even with Gliscor and Skarmory, it's hard to win vs Volturn, and damn, i'm just annoyed of how i have to play passivly with that team. Moreover, Starmie relies too much on a Scald Burn to not being traped by Scizor/Ttar, and without a Spinner, this is pretty much over
- Got 133x with it (and then, got haxxed)

- Random offense with some rain stuff. I was boring of stalling, and i had a losing streak, so i wanted something offensive to earn my points back. Azelf seemed cool as an all-out lead, i wanted to try Sub/BP Mienshao and Kingdra SubDD is amazing.
- Got my points back to 131x with it.

Hippodown / Gliscor / Latias / Forretress / Gastrodon / Cobalion

- Sand Stall, pretty cool to use, with two phazers, two Toxik user and two user of Volt Swich. Cobalion is my Steel RK (i had Heatran/Jirachi, but they are "banned", i tried ScarfZor, which was amazing, but i remembered it was banned then lol, anyway, it didn't matter)
- I have 1343 so far with it, gonna ladder more
- No replay yet


Really great challenge to play, i like it. I'll definitly give a try to SubDD Kingdra and Togekiss for my future serious team, they are incredibly awesome.
 
Thanks for such a detailed and thought-out response, McMeghan! Glad you like the challenge! I looked through your logs and saw SubMienshao, which is pretty interesting. Haven't seen Mienshao around OU too often, but it can still be effective! Your rain team was surprising; I didn't expect anyone to approach the challenge that way, haha. Your stall teams intrigued me, and I really think they can be effective even without any top10 Pokemon. Keep it up buddy, you're close!
