RMT: Lucario Core

548517-lucario.jpg

When I first build this team I needed to try and find a good core for my team I wanted to have a Lucario in it and then I needed to put a core in it so I went with the classic Jolteon and Gyarados core. Gyarados can sub into its weaknesses. I then decided to add Skarmory to set up spikes and sweep away any pokemon who try to set up on me. My reasoning for Kindra was because I felt it would have great synergy with the team. Lastly Ambipom I threw in being more a “filler” pokemon But still knocks some dents into teams.

Jolteon@Choice specs

Timid
ev 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Ability: Volt absorb
-Thunderbolt
-Single Beam
-Volt Switch
-Hidden power (grass)

Since team preview has been released and most people see Ambipom and plan their lead to counter it so I set jolteon as my Scout lead and Volt switch out if i don’t like what I see. Jolteon can also do good damage with his thunderbolt stab to anything that doesn’t resist it. If im expecting a ground move ill sub-out to Gyarados. Id also sub in jolteon when i expect a electrick attack on gyarados.

EV 252attk/252spd/4 hp
Adamant
Ability: Moxie
-Stone edge
-Waterfall
-Dragon dance
-Ice Fang

(I changed the moveset for this pokemon from the advice I had gotten it does make mroe sense this way)

Gyarados can sub-in to alot of attacks that Lucario and jolteon are weak agenst set up a substitute and then 1-2 dragon dances(if they sub isn’t destroyed) then start to sweep with Waterfall or bounce then gaining more attack after each mon goes down. I sub him out tho to jolteon when im expecting a electrick move and to lucario when expecting a rock move.

Lucario@life Orb

Adamant
EV 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Ability:Inner Focus
-Close Combat
-Sword dance
-Extremespeed
-Crunch

Lucario is the heart of my team one of my favorite pokemon(that hasnt been Banned*cough*blazkin*cough* anyways... it can be kind of a power house after even a single sword dance I use him to chip away at most walls like chansey + blissey, also do good neutral damage to skarmory if for some reason i dont choose to sub in jolteon.

Skarmory@leftover

Impish
EV :252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe
Ability: Sturdy
-Brave Bird
-Spikes
-Roost
-Whirlwind

While I thought my core was great and all I noticed some pokemon were able to set up on my team so i figured best way to get rid of that is to get a phazer and phase them out at the same time to put in spikes basicly he is meant to just do the spikes and roost then whirlwind.

Kingdra@chestoberry

Adament
EV 168 HP / 164 Atk / 4 SpD / 172 Spe
Ability: Swift Swim
-Dragon dance
-Waterfall
-Outrage
-Rest

I chose a rest + chesto since i can set up a couple of dragon dances and then rest any damage i took once my health gets low and then begin my sweep.

Ambipom@Silk Scarf
424.png

Adament
EV 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Ability: Technician
-Fakeout
-Double Hit
-Low Kick
-U-turn

I choose him tho more of a “filler” pokemon anytime I sub him in he can put a good dent anything that doesn’t resist them making and with Tech ability. When he is out my basic move is to Fakeout then U-Turn out to keep the person guessing.

I notice that anything that is very bulky my team has abit of trouble getting past them, on all other stuff I feel that some pokemon tho look good matching on paper don’t always seem to hold up in battles so my wins and losses are 50/50 losing to anything that outspeeds my pokemon or becomes way to bulky for them to take out. Basicly my biggest weakness i found is defensive based teams with really bulky pokemon.

I would suggest replacing ambipom for the standard life orb mienshao set. It possesses fake out and u-turn just like ambipom and with hp ice it can eliminate gliscor, allowing lucario to sweep easier. It also had access to regenerator, allowing it to regain health every time it switches out. Here is the set:

Mienshao@Life Orb
Regenerator
Naive
252Atk/4SpA/252Spe
-High Jump Kick
-U-Turn
-HP Ice
-Fake Out
Hope this suggestion helps and good luck.

There isn't much point in running Quick Feet on Jolteon. Jolteon is already extremely fast, and Volt Absorb will help your team a lot (you have Gyarados and Skarmory, and no other Electric resists).

\\oh yea it was volt absorb, i dont know why i typed in quick feet

If you only have Skarmory as your hazards setter, I'd suggest running SR instead of spikes just because it neuters the big threats in Dragonite and Volcarona more than spikes will, not to mention it obviously damages flying and levitating pokemon like Landorus and Rotom with their volt-turns.
Also, Signal Beam > Shadow Ball on Jolteon, since it does more to Celebi which is extremely common in the current meta, while being only slightly weaker when hitting psychic types compared to Shadow Ball.
I honestly don't see Ambipom doing much here, so I'd suggest something like a Landorus (preferably scarfed, although ebelt can obviously also do wonders) in place of it just for an extra insurance vs DD Dragons and the likes. It also provides you with another valuable fighting resist, although obviously it can't switch into too many Close Combat's. If you don't like running two choiced-pokes, you can change jolteon's item to LO or e-belt, which I personally prefer, but that is up to you.

thanks for th etip, ill try single beam on the jolteon, also I have tried landurous on my team but for some reason he wasnt holding up that well. I have dragon coverage already in the forms of kingdra

Your Gyrados set doesnt make sense..the EV Spread + Nature + Ablity SCREAM all out Physical attacker, but his set is a pretty standard Bulky 'dos set with bounce..try either or, not combining the 2

If you dont wanna change the EV spread/nature use Ice Fang/Stone Edge/Dragon Dance/Watefall

I made some changes tot he pokemon moves based on the suggestions made that seem to work out fine. As for Mienshao I had him in the team and removed him quickly seeing as I then had 3 pokemon with a common weakness.
