What's the Weather Report? Castform Discussion

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs!

Typing: Normal
Trait: Forecast

Base Stats:
Hit Points: 70
Attack: 70
Defense: 70
Special Attack: 70
Special Defense: 70
Speed: 70

Notable Physical Movepool:
Avalanche
Return
Facade

Nothing to choose from here. However, we don't want to use Castform as a physical sweeper.....

Notable Special Movepool:
Weather Ball **
Water Pulse
Ice Beam / Blizzard*
Solarbeam
Thunderbolt / Thunder
Shadow Ball
Flamethrower / Fire Blast *
Energy Ball
Ominous Wind

This movepool allows him to take adavantage of his trait, Forecast. * Denotes that with the respective weather, it gets STAB. ** denotes that it always get STAB unless in Sandstorm

Utility:
Substitute
Amnesia
Psych Up
Sleep Talk
Thunder Wave
Endure
Rain Dance
Hail
Sunny Day
Toxic

Some really excellent options to pick from here

Possible Movesets:

Castform @Life Orb / Damp Rock / Heat Rock / Icy Rock
Trait: Forecast
Nature: Modest
EVs: 104 HP / 252 SAtk / 148 Spd
~Hail / Sunny Day / Rain Dance
~Weather Ball
~Solarbeam / Thunder / Flamethrower
~Thunder Wave / Ice Beam

Typical moveset. With Hail, you run STAB Weather Ball with Flamethrower to cover most things except Water types. Sunny Day runs Solarbeam, but gets walled by dragons, so consider Ice Beam on the last slot. Rain Dance runs Thunder and is only walled by Quagsire. Thunder Wave is used to mediate faster stuff

So discuss the cloud. Will he see use in UU? With Para support, could he pass up to BL? It's hard to tell. One thing, it's extremely versatile and unpredictable, so that's a plus. However, bad stats ruin it's reliability.

I dont see it being improved enough to warrant tier upgrade. All he really got are the rocks, but that's about as far as Casty will go. Novelty that can cause a nasty surprise but lacks the power to do anything.

It's stats suck, but it's got the fun element in it, which has a bit of merit.

I see it nowhere near competitive (unless that person is suicidal), but could be of someuse in other tiers.

The thing is, you can't really change the stats. SO there has to be some way that you can use them. Choice Specs Castform sounds like a good bet, but you'd lose the vital STAB Weather Ball.

One thing that is good about Castform is that it can be utilized in any weather team, and it can help out Shedinja, who otherwise dies to Sandstorm and Snow Warning

Focus sash won't work. Castform is too slow, protect does nothing much, and sunny day will be setup, but you would be KO'd next turn by almost anything. Base 70 speed sucks.

Yeah, there isn't anything that Castform will be doing with Focus Sash if it doesn't get Counter or Mirror Coat. Best leave it as a weather changer

If we had an OU or lower Pokemon with Drought/Drizzle as their ability, we could see weather teams using Castform.

Once we get one, I'll probably use him for fun.

That won't happen, Drizzle is a big part of why Kyo is uber. Double-STAB Water Spout off 150 base SAtk at full health is a 2HKO on Blissey. Without Drizzle it wouldn't be a 2HKO. As far as Drought goes, it has nothing to do with Groudon being uber because Groudon itself never actually uses it.

I remember Castform would get an insane BP/stab on Weather Ball during Sunny Day.

I also remember thinking those cloud bits under it were actually breasts.

First off, Kyogre doesn't 2HKO Blissey if Blissey doesn't use stupid EVs, unless Kyogre has Choice Specs.

And, on topic, does Castform change to Rock in Sandstorm, and to Ice in Hail?

People never stop thinking about that xD. OMG, Castform is a cumulonimbus cloud, thats why

If STAB is applied along with weather change, doesn't Weather Ball become at the very least a 150 base power move?

Lol, before when I was a noob I made the mistake of teaching it sunny day, rain dance, hail, and weather ball, but i soon realized the flaw in that moveset
My first post: yay!

I see a few options for Castform.

Castform @ Focus Sash
252 Att, 252 SpAtt
Thunder Wave
Hail
Avalanche
Ice Beam/Blizzard/Weather Ball

Castform @ Salac Berry
252 Speed, 252 Att
Endure
Return
Natural Gift (becomes Fighting type 80 with Salac Berry)
Thunder Wave

Castform @ Salac Berry
252 SpAtt, 252 Speed
Endure
Weather Ball
Rain Dance OR Sunny Day
Water Pulse/HP(Water)/Thunder OR Flamethrower/Solarbeam

(this last one isn't a stand-alone pokemon - you must set up in preparation for it)

I believe so. I also remember the BP of Weather Ball changing to 100 when it's Fire type. Then add in double bonus because of stab and weather.

EDIT: Don't quote me, though. I'm not 100% sure.

I really hope we do

with every weather effect

I hate the fact we have to use ubers for rain or sunny teams

groudon itself actually uses but alot weaker move than eruption fire punch, gets to power up by weather but doesnt get any stab

Baton Passing could be considerably good for Castform. In OU, you could pass from Ninjask to Togekiss, and pass to Castform, and if you're lucky enough he'll survive and get a sweep

Assuming Dusknoir / Cresselia / Blissey aren't alive

Wow, I just ran the calcs on Choice Specs Kyogre.... Ouch, especially when coupled with Palkia.

Anyways, on topic, Castform was awesome, until I got him to Victory Road in Sapphire and he was Lv. 33 while everyone else was in the 40s. Castform is what you get when you feel like making a weaker Glalie. It also should have a Sandform and an evolution.

Hmm... let's see, Weatherball becomes base 100 when a Weather is in effect. Sunny Day and Rain Dance boost Fire and Water moves by 1.5 respectively and Castform also changes to a Fire and Water type and Weatherball receives STAB. So:

100*1.5*1.5=150*1.5=225

So it's basically a 225 Move. Add a Super-effective hit into the formula and you have a move with a 450 power. That's pretty deadly.

Castform... I remember when I was a complete nub I ran 4 Castforms: Castfyer, Castrein, Castheil and Castroks (Weatherball changes to a Rock form in Sandstorm). Castfyer and Castrein were suppose to be like sweepers using Attract/SunnyDay or Raindance/Weatherball/Thunder or Solarbeam. Castheil was Attract/Toxic/Hail/Weatherball. And I forget Castroks. But that was pretty amusing. I now look back at those days and say... "God... I was such a noob".

I could've sworn Castform learned Confuse Ray though... ah well... guess I was wrong. Lol. I agree with Tricky, if only it stats shifted when it changes into another form, that'd be pretty neat.

The main problem is that you can use Fire Pokemon with Sunnt Day to outclsass any sunny day set and a water pokemon with rain dance to outclass any rainy set. =(

Groudon should not ever use Fire Punch ever.

Do not use any of Aielyn's sets. =(

Gamefreak were really not kind to Castform. For a start from the moment it existed it should have transformed in EVERY weather effect, not having a sandstorm form is a real blow to something that would make a fun poke to use.

As far as Drought goes, it has nothing to do with Groudon being uber because Groudon itself never actually uses it.

Well it makes water neutral, but the fact that it boosts Fire Blast is probably a bigger setback as it doesn't resist fire and such.

With one exception (Ho-oh), anything that would use a Fire attack on Groudon would probably be better off using an Ice attack on it instead. The only real reason to even carry a Fire attack in Ubers is Metagross (and Jirachi, but meh). Shedinja is too lol now anyway. It's not worth burning a slot on a sweeper like Mewtwo just to take advantage of Groudon's weather boost.

EDIT: Forgot some of the newer Ubers, like Palkia I guess. Yeah, maybe Fire is making a comeback, but Drought is still in no way a hindrance.
