LOST IN THE ECHO
IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS

Hi everyone, welcome to my first RMT for the BW2 metagame. As the title suggests, this team is a weatherless offense team. The main strategy of this team is to facilitate a sweep with Mamoswine, Kingdra, Latios, or Scizor using Magnezone to eliminate their checks. It isn't a new strategy by any means but it's effective nonetheless. Although this team is viable for BW1, it was designed with the BW2 metagame in mind. That's primarily why I based the team around Mamoswine and Kingdra, two very anti-metagame Pokemon at the moment.
I have tested this team on Pokemon Showdown and made it into the top 100 of the ladder while testing the team. However, there are still a lot of inexperienced battlers on Pokemon Showdown (I mean seriously, I ran into some random shit like Flame Orb on Jolteon), so the team probably isn't as good as my laddering would otherwise suggest. This is the main reason I've turned to the Smogon community for assistance in patching up the weaknesses. The team's name comes from the Linkin Park song off of their latest album.

IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS

MAMOSWINE @ Life Orb
Thick Fat | Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Superpower
THE anti-metagame Pokemon at the moment. Mamoswine is one of the few Pokemon that can reliably check many of the new threats introduced in BW2 (Therian forms and Technician Breloom) as well as several old threats, such as Haxorus, Dragonite, Salamence, Landorus, and Gliscor. There's an old saying "Every team is Mamoswine weak" and it's true, including my own. Aside from Skarmory and Rotom-W, Mamoswine is a difficult Pokemon to counter. With Magnezone eliminating Steel types and Kingdra and Latios checking bulky Waters, Mamoswine has little trouble rampaging through opposing teams. Although Mamoswine is in the lead position, I usually lead with Landorus for scouting purposes.
Mamoswine is my Stealth Rock user. It forces many switches so setting up Stealth Rock is often an easy task. Ice Shard is incredible in this metagame, capable of revenge killing Dragons, the Therian forms, Chlorophyll sweepers, and much more. Earthquake provides secondary STAB which has incredible coverage alongside Ice Shard. Superpower nails Rotom-W switch-ins and is also great for taking out Ferrothorn and Air Balloon Heatran. I prefer a Jolly nature over Adamant to outrun neutral base 80s as well as things like Timid Heatran, Jolly Breloom, and slower Rotom-W.

KINGDRA @ Leftovers
Swift Swim | Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
40 HP / 224 Atk / 16 Def / 228 Spe
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Outrage
With all the new toys Rain received from BW2, it's no surprise that offensive Rain teams are one of the most common types of teams. This allows the underrated Kingdra to shine. In addition to boosting Waterfall, Rain provides Kingdra with a 2x speed boost that allows it to outspeed the entire metagame. Most Rain teams crumble against Kingdra once Ferrothorn has been weakened or eliminated, which is not hard to do with Magnezone. Kingdra pairs nicely with Mamoswine and Scizor because it has 4x resistances to their Fire and/or Water weaknesses. Thus, it can often switch-in and setup on the Bulky Waters they commonly lures in.
I'm using the rare SubDD Kingdra set over the more popular ChestoRest set for a few reasons. The main reason is because it has a much easier time setting up against opposing Bulky Waters. There's nothing worse than using ChestoRest only to get nailed by Scald burns or Toxic after waking up. Thankfully, Substitute provides Kingdra with protection from status and critical hits. It's not hard to setup Substitute against most Water types thanks to Kingdra's 4x Water resistance. Even Timid Scarf Politoed's Hydro Pump in the Rain cannot break Kingdra's Substitute. 228 speed EVs allow Kingdra to outspeed everything up to and including Choice Scarf Latios after 2 Dragon Dances or if Swift Swim is active. It also lets it outspeed Jolteon at +1. HP EVs provide extra bulk overall and is optimal for Substitute creation. The 16 Def EVs in combination with the HP EVs prevent defensive Jirachi from breaking Kingdra's Substitute with Body Slam. The rest of the EVs are placed in attack for more power.

LATIOS @ Choice Specs
Levitate | Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Trick
Latios is simply here to wreck shit. It really shines in this metagame since Tyranitar and Scizor aren't as popular as they once were. With Magnezone trapping Steel types and Mamoswine scaring away Tyranitar, there is little stopping it from nuking everything with Draco Meteor. Latios also forms a formidable double Dragon core with Kingdra, weakening each other's counters for a sweep. In particular, Latios does a great job of luring out Kingdra's best check, Ferrothorn, so that Magnezone can easily trap it. Latios also helps a lot against Rain and Sun teams since its typing provides it with key resistances to Water, Electric, Fire, and Grass attacks commonly found on those teams. It's also my main check for Rotom-W, Keldeo, Terrakion, and Thundurus-T.
Specs Draco Meteor coming off of Latios' massive special attack will put huge dents in just about anything, especially once Magnezone eliminates opposing Steel types. Psyshock provides secondary STAB and it nails special walls like Blissey and Gastrodon that commonly switch-in to Latios. It's also great for checking Terrakion and Keldeo. Surf is the move I spam early game when my opponent's Steels or Tyranitar are still present. This team has issues with Stall so Trick is invaluable on this set. I often Trick on the first turn against Stall teams to cripple one of their walls.

SCIZOR @ Iron Plate
Technician | Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
232 HP / 100 Atk / 164 SpD / 12 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Roost
Scizor has a rough time in this metagame with the new additions of Keldeo and Thundurus-T. However, it really holds the team together in both offense and defense. It checks things like Reuniclus, Gengar, Terrakion, Latios, and many other deadly threats that would otherwise plow right through this team. Its powerful priority works well on this team since it can pick off things that Mamoswine's Ice Shard has weakened. Speaking of Mamoswine, it has excellent offensive synergy with Scizor because they share a lot of the same checks, Rotom-W and Skarmory in particular. If Scarf Rotom-W switches into Mamoswine's Superpower, it'll be within +2 Bullet Punch's KO range, meaning Rotom-W can no longer check Scizor once it sets up. Scizor can also lure in things like Heatran and Tentacruel and U-turn into Mamoswine or Kingdra.
U-turn might seem odd on a SD set but it's useful for when I need to use Scizor early game to check certain threats, such as Reuniclus or Latios/Latias. U-turn allows Scizor to check them without turning into setup fodder, unlike Bug Bite. It's also great for scouting. Typically, Bullet Punch is the only move I use once I setup SD. Roost greatly improves Scizor's longevity and it makes it much deadlier against Stall-based teams. Iron Plate bluffs a Choice Band set early game while providing a decent boost to Bullet Punch. 100 Atk EVs ensure that Bullet Punch 2HKO's offensive Dragonite after SR. The 12 speed EVs allow Scizor to beat most opposing Scizor to the punch (get it?). The remaining EVs focus on special bulk so that Scizor has an easier time checking things like Latios, Reuniclus, and Gengar.

MAGNEZONE @ Leftovers
Magnet Pull | Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Fire
- Charge Beam
Magnezone sucks. However, it does have an incredibly useful niche with its ability to trap and eliminate the majority of Steel types. Mamoswine, Latios, Kingdra, and Scizor all appreciate having Steel types like Skarmory, Ferrothorn, and Scizor eliminated so that they can sweep. Magnezone also makes a great defensive pivot since its unique typing grants it 12 resistances and 1 immunity. Thus, it's usually the first Pokemon I sacrifice to gain a free switch once it has served its purpose. The moveset is the standard Substitute set. Charge Beam is excellent for racking up boosts against things like Ferrothorn and Forretress that lack Volt Switch. If Magnezone obtains enough boosts, it can usually get two kills per game. The speed EVs allow Magnezone to outrun all Adamant Scizor, which is useful against offensive SD sets.

LANDORUS @ Choice Scarf
Sand Force | Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
244 Atk / 12 Def / 252 Spe
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
- Explosion
The scout and "catch-all" revenge killer. I usually lead with Landorus since its fast U-turn provides nice scouting utility early game. Landorus pairs well with Mamoswine since they share a lot of the same counters. Thus, it's usually easy for Landorus to lure in Skarmory for Magnezone to trap, which clears the way for Mamoswine and also Scizor. The moveset is fairly straightforward. I prefer using Explosion over Hidden Power Ice since I already have Mamoswine to check most of what HP Ice would. Explosion, though significantly weaker from Generation 4, is a great tool for taking out certain threats in a pinch while maintaining momentum. It's also nice when it catches a Rotom-W on the switch, making it easier for Mamoswine and Scizor to sweep. Those random 12 Def EVs guarantee that Landorus can survive a +2 Lucario ExtremeSpeed after SR damage.
To be honest, the only reason I'm using Landorus-I over the Therian form is to patch up an offensive Volcarona weakness. The Therian form provided a lot of utility with Intimidate and was more powerful against non-Sand teams. But I suppose Landorus-I has the advantage of being able to check +1 Salamence and Haxorus in addition to Volcarona, and it hits harder against Sand teams.
THREAT LIST
The frail offensive nature of this team unfortunately grants it a lot of weaknesses. The main threats to this team are Genesect, Shell Smash Cloyster, Trick Room Reuniclus, SD Lucario, Starmie, Gengar, and Mamoswine. I can check these Pokemon one way or another but something usually dies in the process. These Pokemon have a hard time switching in or setting up safely though. Thus, playing carefully is usually the best way to avoid getting swept by them.
Stall teams are really annoying in general. Sun teams are difficult match ups for most weatherless teams and this is no exception. Latios and Mamoswine can usually check Chlorophyll sweepers while Landorus takes out Volcarona.
