2012 music

Not sure if Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor II has been mentioned but just listening through it now and it is not bad at all so far. Much improved from Friend of the People (which was a bit of a trainwreck) and definitely much better than Lasers. Nothing has hit the heights of his first two albums but nothing to offend the ears either!

just listened to new death grips (bout time)

while it's a little weird that I have to see a penis at the bottom left of my itunes as i listen, it's still experimental hiphop gold

Am I the only one who didn't like Death Grips' The Money Store? Is the new album different enough that I should give it a chance or is it more of the same? The penis on the cover just seems like a lame ploy to sell more copies to people with a 2edgy4you mentality. Releasing a second album so quickly after the first one is slightly alarming as well.

heyyy slowpoke get with the picture

the "penis album cover" album was released under certain laws which means its literally free. you can actually sell this album and make money off of it. no "legitimate" copies of this album/ep/whatever you want to call it are being sold for money. publicity? maybe/probably... but this move doesnt make anyone any immediate money at all

True but it does in the long term. It gets people talking which means more listeners (potential fans) to go to their shows/buy their future stuff. It's a marketing scheme.

Sub Focus - Tidal Wave
I'm really addicted to this!

Oh wow, that is really good. Didn't know that Sub Focus had a new track out, thanks for posting.

Also, the day after I go see Madeon in Amsterdam, Yeasayer also plays... Damn school and everything getting in the way >:(

i honestly think the marketing benefits are secondary

from what i can tell the dudes are artists through and through, and i think it's hilarious that a hip hop group is basically the modern face of the punk diy ethos

and anyway it took me six months to appreciate the money store but i liked no love deep web right off the bat, they're similar in that its 'electronic' but its got a very different aesthetic. id say the only song from the money store that sounds at all similar is blackjack

I was not at all a fan of the Money Store. I liked "Hacker", and a couple other tracks were catchy, but a lot of it just seemed bad to me, so I don't really have an interest in checking out No Love Deep Web.

On the other hand, Neurosis's new album leaked. It's just awesome.

it's a lot rawer and darker

some tracks have a similar feel to their pre-exmilitary shit; in fact no love really feels like full moon pt 2 to me in a weird way

oh my god please record that for me he's a fucking boss.... definitely best newcomer of the year!

Saw GY!BE last night. Tony Conrad opened, and it was a seven-piece string ensemble that played a ~40-minute freestyle descent from a stable chord harmony into complete musical chaos, where they were just raking their strings with whatever they could find, then slowly climbing out into sanity again and ending on the same starting chord.

Then GY!BE killed it. They played without a violin because Sophie had a family emergency, but they opened with Hope Drone into Mladic; then did Monheim (starting with Murray Ostril :pirate:); then went to a completely new song called Behemoth, which seriously sounded like a post-metal song; then finished with The Sad Mafioso.

Utterly amazing.

The new Little Comets album is pretty great, for any fans of the band. Am still going through it atm, so I'm not sure if it's better than their first album or not, but thusfar it's got some awesome songs.

Damn, I really want to see them to play Behemoth. Awesome that they played it that night DM. Sad Mafioso is a fucking killer end. Looked like an amazing set. Quite jealous.

Swans were absolutely flawless. 3 hours of feeling totally sublime. They ended on Apostate and I was in another world by the time it all ended. Got to chat with Gira for a few minutes after the show, guy is super nice. He's so unbelievably focused when he plays and it was pretty cool to see how calm and modest he was. Great guy. After we talked for a bit I got my copy of The Seer signed, so I'm very happy about that.

You're in for one hell of a show Deschain. I brought earplugs but didn't have them in for a majority of the show. My ears are still ringing a bit from the night before, but it was totally worth it to hear every bit of the reverb of the guitar.
