Classic Games Thread

FF8 was ass lol. The character selection was terrible, and the only chemistry you ever got was between Squall and Rinoa. The level up/junction system was terrible, and this is coming from someone who loves the actual story and has 100%'d it twice.

FF6 imo is the best FF of all time, and a true classic. FF4 is great and FF9 and FFX are two of my personal favorites. FFVII was alright but not my personal favorite haha. Earthbound is a classic and even venturing onto Suikoden 1 and 2. Im a huge RPG fan though.
Ah, it's good to see someone with a very similar opinion to my own when it comes to Final Fantasy. I'm a really big fan of both IV and VI, my personal favourite would definitely have to be X though. Earthbound is an amazing game, I prefer Mother 3 though, even though you have to play it on an emulator to actually play it in English, lol.

One of the most memorable moments I've had with gaming is one with Donkey Kong Country 2. It was somewhat late at night, and I was in the lounge with my family playing the GBA version, and I came across a Cat-O-9-Tails in Mudhole Marsh, it uttered a cry that was very reminiscent of a cat's meow, and my whole family heard it. They went outside thinking it was a stray cat under the house (this had happened many times prior), I just continued playing with a grin on my face, not revealing the real source of the noise. Eventually, they came back in, puzzled as to where the cat could be, to find me just sitting there grinning. Right before I decided to hit the hay I told them what really happened, they saw the funny side of it and we all still look back on it as a rather funny moment. Good times.

This is the best classic game IMO.

Aah, good old Sonic 3. Hydrocity Zone is in the top 3 of my favourite levels in Sonic history, 1st going to Planet Wisp, and 2 going to Rooftop Run.

Pokemon FRLG. I'M NOT OLD OK DONT JUDGE ME! Anyways, yeah, I remember never being able to beat them though. That's what I get for being 7 and giving my Charizard all HM moves. Also I don't think I ever found the Lavender Town music creepy, despite the update it got in Gen III.

i remember walking into the castle in super mario 64 for the first time and being so scared of bowser's laugh that i ran downstairs in pure fear

i was like 5 ok

you don't get voice actors like that any more

Heh, I ran back outside when that happened.

I remember the "Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 Disc" error screen...I shit my pants and ran out to my living room when I saw that when I was a kid.

This game. THIS FREAKIN GAME.

Magi Nation was beautiful in almost every aspect. The characters were amazing, humorous, and all unique and quirky, Tony was a bro of epic proportions, and the dream creatures were wonderful.

If anybody hasn't played this game, you should play it right now.

Besides Pokemon, this was one of my favourite games. I loved how the game starts of quite nicely and peacefully, but then as the game progresses, it takes a VERY dark turn.

I remember travelling into the 2nd shadow geyser and finding myself lost for ages and ages upon a time. It was really hard, but it felt so rewarding to finally beat that stupid maze and watch it come tumbling down.....

I also enjoyed how if you clicked on certain items, Tony would give an awesome description of what it is.

Just trust me guys, this game is the best.

I'd go in-depth about BattleToads but I think I'm the only one here that actually likes it.

When I was a kid Oregon Trail was the tits. There was literally no other reason why 7-year-old kids would be fighting over a library computer, much less be in a library. The teachers were awesome enough to never delete it, though, and sometimes people got pissed when waiting for a turn. Even today I find it rather enjoyable from time-to-time.

Then there's also a big list of Super Nintendo games I played when I discovered emulators. Literally soooo many top-notch titles for that system, but the ones that stand out the most for me: Super Mario World, Mega Man X, EarthBound, Chrono Trigger, Kirby Super Star (I never played Zelda so don't get pissed that I left it out).

heck emulators I have all those games for my real super nintendo

It helped that the local video rental / tanning salon was selling off all their used SNES games for seven dollars each to make room for the Gamecube/PS2/XBox generation years back. Great deals there, especially Earthbound (which came with the old player's guide too). I also picked up Lufia 2, Super Metroid, Super Mario All Stars, Final Fantsy 3, and Link to the Past around that time.

I kicked butt in Tekken 3 when I had my PS1 way back when.

I love all the older Final Fantasies (IV, V and VI especially) but VII is my favorite from the PS1 era. I found that if you ignore the Cloud/Serphiroth fanboys as well has all the haters and play the game for yourself, you'll find that it's a tonne of fun. I went back and played it again last October and now I've finished the main story (I like to take my time lol) and am grinding for Emerald/Ruby Weapon.

seriously, who the fuck else has played this game (besides scampy)

this game is amazing. and kind of ridiculously hard. i've still never beaten it, basically because save points don't exist and the world itself is so vast, i still haven't fully explored it. the game mostly revolves around exchanging items until you've returned items to their proper owners, or gathered them for yourself to complete various tasks. there are also a number of keys to keep track of, in order to enter different houses of your relatives/friends/acquaintances in order to complete your objectives. oh, and you can only ever hold 3 items at a time, meaning you just have to leave any other items scattered across the map, hoping you remember where exactly you've left them. i think the main goal is to save your girlfriend, daisy.

you've got 3 lives, like most classic games, but i don't recall that you can ever replenish them. when i was younger i would literally go to sleep leaving the game on since you can't turn it off and resume wherever you've left off. fuck this game, but i love this game, and one day i will complete it.

FF6 da bess Final Fantasy. Probably my second least favorite video game memory stems from it too, playing on emulator a few years back going for a "perfect" game: all Rages, max stats, etc. I was playing a LLG up until getting Odin so I could optimize stat gains from espers. Some time into the WoR I'm picking up a bunch of Gau's rages after re-acquiring him. I catch a bad jump, accidentally save state as I'm about to die from an attack and... my last hard save was before the Lethe River sequence at the beginning of the game. ~_~ SINCE THEN I HAVE LEARNED TO USE MULTIPLE SAVE STATES WHEN EMULATING GAMES

Paperboy? Along with Marios 1-3 and some other classics, used to play that shit with my mom man. And Tetris. Yeah. The good ol' days.

Lufia 2, so attached by my foamy li'l bro. <3 LIKE DIS IF U CRY EVRY TIME AT THE ENDING ;(

And yeah, I've totally died of dysentery before too.

^ This is why I don't use save states unless it's purely to save time or I'm practicing a hard Mario hack level before doing it "for real".
