Primeape @ Choice Band
Trait: Vital Spirit
EVs: 252 Atk /4 Def/252 Speed
Adamant Nature
- Beat Up
- Close Combat
- Toxic/Earthquake
- U-turn

Intended to surprise/cripple its usual switchins, expecting to take a scarfed U-turn/CC, the likes of Misdreavus, Musharna and Golurk are not going to like a CB'd Beat Up, 2HKOing the first two while having over 60% chance to OHKO standard 176HP Golurk.

Close Combat can now easily 2HKO 252HP Gurdurr who might have wanted to take a U-turn or Stone Edge, worst case a scarfed CC and recover back the damage with drain punch. Wartortle now also dies from 2CCs after rocks.

Toxic cripples just about everything else that wants to switch in to Primeape (barring Weezing and Garbodor) such as Alomomola and Tangela, while Earthquake OHKOs specially defensive Garbodor if it's a big problem for your team.

U-turn does what it always does, scouting while racking up just that little more damage with the 50% boost.

edit for adding replays where it worked out

What else I learned is that the Beat Up hits take their base power from your team members attack stat, though if your team even has a couple of strong physical attackers it should put out the expected damage, if not more.

Calcs:
252Atk Choice Band Primeape (+Atk) Beat Up vs 252HP/252Def Leftovers Musharna (+Def): 52% - 63% (228 - 276 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.

I see absolutely no reason why you would not Bulk Up instead. Life Orb also seems counterproductive with Sub.

treecko37 i really do like your idea of using encore on primeape, but I'd much prefer to use U-Turn over Punishment. Simply because Encore is so good at forcing switches, and you still maintain the super effective hit on Musharna, and can let something else deal with it that does a better job than Primeape. U-Turn mainly helps in keeping immense amounts of momentum for your team in conjunction with Encore, as once they switch you can simply bring in a counter to their counter for free. going to try that set

Yeah, you're right. Both are solid options, and I'll slash U-turn with Punishment.

You're right, I wasn't exactly thinking about the item choice with sub. Perhaps fist plate would be a better choice on that set. I opted out of bulk up because someone else was using it :[ because is the higher defense really worth it when you're that frail and your sub will be broken by powerful neutral hits? Imo any of his three attack boosting moves could be there interchangeably, but I like keeping it simple ;] Plus, a meditating ape is pretty cool.

Because Bulk Up is a straight upgrade from Meditate. There's no reason to use the move when there's another move that he learns that does the exact same thing but better.

Okay I understand I'll put BU as primary, but for the record I just meant that all three set up moves accomplish the goal of boosting attack. The other side effects are just cool additions I guess. I was just being naive about it I guess x_x So basicall yhte set is the same except with BU>Meditate and Fist plate>life orb

Changed my set, if possible.

That's totally fine. Anyone can edit their sets in any way during the posting period, just as long as it's before the voting period. However, I'd suggest removing the previous set from your post as someone could take it and post it, and if people prefer the first set then they get the win/glory and you miss out. It also makes people lazy, and it's better if people find their own stuff than just taking someone else's idea and potentially winning with it. :(

Primeape @ Flying Gem
Trait: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk /4 Def/252 Speed
Adamant Nature/Jolly
- Acrobatic
- Close Combat
- Bulldoze/Punishment
- U-turn

This Primeape is meant to be a lure for things that feel they can jump in on Primeape's Close Combat, and instead get nailed by a Flying Gem boosted Acrobatics. This was mentioned on another thread, but it allowed Primeape to OHKO or 2HKO some powerful threats, like Scholipede, Vileplume, Sawk, etc. For example, Vileplume jumps in on our Close Combat, and then..

252Atk Flight Gem Primeape (+Atk) Acrobatics vs 252 HP/208 Def Vileplume (+Def): 79% - 94% (282 - 334 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.

Primeape's Close Combat does 21 % at least, so, the majority of the time, you are looking at a dead Vileplume. Tangela still walls you, with the Close Combat and Flying Gem Acrobatics only doing a total of around 60 $, but you can then U-Turn out.

With some good predicition, you can also use Acrobatics to always OHKO Scholipede, without relying on Stone Miss. Roselia is also always OHKO'ed, so Primeape can even keep Spikes off the field, though it will have to rely, for Scholipede, on Scholipede coming in (and you predicting correctly).

Also worth noting is that a Flying Gem boosted Acrobatics has a 93 % chance to OHKO Swoobat, and doesn't have that annoying miss chance. Swoobat isn't that common, but it is pretty cool.

For nature, I would use Adamant myself, since the attack boost is invaluable to ensure 100 % a Close Combat/Acrobatics together OHKO, and to do what this Primeape is meant to do (lure out things like Vileplume and Scholipede, and KO'ing them). However, a Jolly nature helps speed tie Jolly fully invested Leafeon, but Leafeon isn't common enough to warrent the power loss IMO). Close Combat is for STAB, and it should be a criminal offense to not run U-Turn on Primeape. Bulloze on Primeape is also interesting. It isn't the main focus of the set, but lowering the speed of other dangerous 'Mons is useful, though Punishment is useful for hurting boosting sweepers.

Punchshroom (I like your first one a bit more though, cause I like trying those gimmicks) :)

2nd would be Treecko37 because Encore is cool, but I like a lot of the sets, so it was quite hard to choose who would get second place.

Well you still can, it just won't be voted here :P

Treeko37

The set looks like it could be a standard; it's usefulness and versatility turns Primeape into an even more scary thing to fight against.

I would also like to mention my second choice; Punchroom's TauntTurn set is very cool and I would love to try it out sometime. But, I personally think that the set above is only slightly better, as I hate Life Orb recoil. Still, great find, bud. I didn't know Primeape learned Taunt!

Goddamn:pirate:, now I'm really torn about whether I should nominate my LureApe or my StallBreaker Ape.

You can't change at this point anyway. Once the voting period starts only the Ape set you've posted counts unfortunately. So everyone who votes will be voting for that set. Who knows though, there's still a lot of time left to vote and a lot of people who can vote - so you still have a chance at getting lots of votes for the one you've posted :)

With that in mind, Trygler's vote won't count unless he edits it to apply to your second set, aka the one in your post. Everyone else keep this in mind - you can only vote for their most recent set.
