Coliseum - Sister Faith

What a fun album. Hardcore punk that's definitely on the lighter side of the genre, but really nice stuff. Just general well made.

Crystal Fighters just dropped a preview to Cave Rave, giving us half a minute of each track. Gonna be my album of the year, at least until now, that's for sure.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Trouble Will Find Me is actually an insufferably boring album. Most of the songs follow the same formula and aren't the easiest to differentiate. There are a few good songs like Heavenfaced, I Need My Girl, and especially This Is The Last Time (holy fuck it's a great song) but for the most part it's below average.

I guess if you're just getting into the National it'll be good, but I've been following them since Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers and I can only take so much of the same formula.

if it ain't broke don't fix it

but i guess it's more difficult to bore me. i'm different from most music fans it seems, as it seems like most people hate when a band simply "makes the same album" over and over again, but that's precisely what i want when a band makes good stuff :P

It's strange because my 'music friends' who know them before Alligator (they were not even famous in the indie-rock sphere at that time) are clearly the more forgiving about the fact their sound doesn't change much (or sometimes don't like how they shift into a chamber pop band).
As for the same formula, I don't really agree. Songs like "I should live in salt" (beautiful opener, as always), Fireproof, Sea of love and Graceless are largely different. This is not the perfect balance of Boxer, but it's very far from a Tinderstick's album for instance where you confuse songs until the third listen, but they are also good/great anyway.
Definitely a solid album but easily one step down from HV/Alligator for me - Boxer being my favourite. Less standouts (i'd say Sea of Love and This is the last time) and they doesn't compete with the best songs of the band. Bryan's drumming is also less satisfying overall in this one > lack of relief and the album is less moody/coherent than Boxer/HV... mostly united by the production which harmed Sea of Love, Graceless imo. That said the ten first songs are all pretty and flow well into each other.
I wonder if they'll become really famous after that.

Boxer and High Violet were pretty much the albums that defined The National's sound. Really, the fact they made an album that doesn't sound any different from High Violet is discouraging. This album was doomed to compete with both Boxer and HV because of that. Personally, the entire second half is understandably indistinguishable from song to song (bar "I Need My Girl") while the first half struggles to keep up with the likes of HV.

Imo this was the perfect opportunity for them to experiment a little. The production work on HV and this album is still revolting. They need to get rid of their producer. I still love them dearly but this whole one trick pony thing isn't beneficial in the long run. At this point they're just going to be a band that makes decent but not great music for me from now on.

I listened to Local Natives' Hummingbird on vinyl at my buddy's house last night and was completely blown away. A brilliant fucking album.

Hi I'm going to post about a band no one's ever heard of.

I have been impatiently awaiting Dead by April's new album, which is due for release later this year. I first found out about this band on YouTube after watching an AMV with one of their demo songs some time in 2009. When I first heard them, I actually thought it was pretty good and they've been one of my favorite bands since. For a basic idea of what they sound like (if you don't like scream vocals I advise you don't hit play because this song has them):

In particular, I'm awaiting what their music will be like with their new scream vocalist, but I'm not expecting anything too different besides different scream vocals. From what I've seen of their guitarist's updates to Dead by April's Facebook page, the guitar parts sound quite kick-ass, though he's only posted one riff and a guitar solo, which were both pretty good for their musical style.

Not expecting many people here to like them, but just posting about what I'm looking forward to this year.
