I never realized how BIG our house will be! So luxurious!
Maybe we are the son/daughter of a wealthy family...that's gonna be an awesome change!

@ the video
grinding down rails? i'm totally reminded of sonic the hedgehog; the rail canyon stage from sonic heroes in particular [i died a lot because it's hard to change rails in that game ;n;]
but i wonder if it'll be anything like that? obviously you won't be able to die, but i wonder how that could be implemented? perhaps certain cities have grinding rails for faster transportation? or perhaps some sort of mini-game?
[i swear to god if it's anything like the running man mini-game from ocarina of time... i haven't even met that guy in my game yet and he already puts me off]

they should totally make chikorita's evolution line Fairy type
that'd be weird imo. the shtick of the johto starters is that they're all pure [inset type here]. changing one would be strange.

I think you misunderstand what bugs me. I'm all for diversity, but this is fake diversity. Dragon/Flying and Flying/Dragon are mechanically the exact same; GameFreak only switched them to likely say "oh yeah we also have this one that's different (but not really)!" I'm all for a Normal/Fire type, I simply don't understand why they're breaking type-order conventions and making it Fire/Normal.

The difference is mostly found in what's the Pokemon main design and what's the "added" part, competitively the only thing that it affects is the possibility of type changes upon evolution (ex. The Fire/Normal could evolve into the Fire/Poison that was suggested previously so the Fire type being the primary types makes sense. The Flying/Dragon could JUST be Flying, Flying/Normal Flying/Poison or whatever on it's first stage and evolve into dragon over the second, etc...), and even if they don't the Pokemon itself would most likely be more based on the primary one that the second on it's final form

I agree with part of that, and I understand GameFreak can change their minds at any point about how they typically order types, but it's not an inherent truth that the secondary type changes. If Litleo and Helioptile both evolve and lose the Normal type for something else, then I'm glad it was a secondary typing! But I doubt strongly that both will.

As for Noivern ... Flying (except when it's the only type) is always the secondary type so far, even when it breaks the general rule that the secondary type is the only one changing when evolving (see Swablu, or, hell, Fletchling). And that assumes it does change.

mmm, noivern sounds like a pokemon that has it change, too. maybe it's just pure flying initially? would make sense, as it doesn't particularly scream "dragon" to me in its design, so smaller and less intimidating prevos would probably look less like dragons.

[on another note, given the manticore reasoning from earlier, i'm definitely thinking litleo will be either fire/poison or fire/dark - helioptile is prolly electric/fire imo; after all, they make such a big deal about the sun, and the fire type is mostly strongly associated with the sun in pokemon]

Keep in mind that oftentimes, the pokemon will learn less moves (naturally) of its secondary type than the first. Other than that, I don't think it's particularly relevant.

Here are the current Pokemon that lose their Normal-type upon evolution:

Eevee
Azurill
Swablu

So only three Pokemon, so we don't have much of an example to work off of for Litleo and Helioptile.

I think, being a lizard, Helioptile will lose its Normal-type. I don't know what for, but I'm guessing maybe Poison. Or Dark.

Litleo is a special case. When you look at it, it just looks like a little cat. But if you start reading about it, you'll see its very closely related to a lion cub. It has a mane that flares during battle, and it's even forced out of its pride when it reaches a certain age (similarly, male lions tend to just have a harem of females and cubs). Therefore, I think that Game Freak is going less for the manticore idea and more for a lion, similar to Shinx but closer to its roots.

This, by no means though, means that Litleo will not have a final evolution of a manticore. I'm positive it will be a lion at some point, but manticores are usually depicted with a lion's head/body - so maybe it goes cub-lion-manticore? All in all, very confusing. But now for my point.

I bet Litleo will become a Fire/Dark-type, or even retain its Fire/Normal typing. Manticores are typically represented as evil characters, so it would make sense for it to become Dark (evil). But manticores are also complex creatures, and we've seen a trend that many complex creatures tend to be Normal, such as Castform for its weather, Kecleon for its ability, and Smeargle. Yes, those are gimmicky examples, but a creature with three different heads will probably be gimmicky as well (three heads different as opposed to three similar heads). So it could really go either way, but I doubt it will become Fire/Poison, as cool as that would be. And we only have one Dark/Fire type family right now, meaning it's still a fairly unique typing.

Or, it'll become Fairy type.

Concerning the shots from inside the Bug gym in the trailer (or the video above): Look as the character climbs down the rope. The spider web is full of dew droplets. However, most of them fall off as the character lands on the web. Another shot shows the character popping droplets by running over them. Perhaps popping them all is a prerequisite for meeting the gym leader? I guess the net becomes more "bouncy" without the droplets weighing it down, and with all of them gone, you can bounce all the way up to the gym leader's platform.

I kinda miss an unfriendly rival. I mean, since gen 3 we had a lot of friendly rivals, Brandon/May, Barry, Cheren, Bianca... they were more companions than competitors. I would have liked more if we got back some unfriendly rival, like Green, or the downright evil Silver...:/

yeah, definitely agree about that - i guess parents nowadays might have a problem with stuff like that in a video game; different standards, i guess. legend of zelda: ocarina of time [around the same time as pokemon red & blue] would probably be rated t or at least e10+ by today's standards, for example.

[and rightfully so - jesus fucking christ that game is scary. redeads should not exist ;n;]

but i mean even r&b [not rhythm and blues, guys] had a pretty dark storyline, with the marowak dying, the ace trainers being implied to whip their pokemon, mewtwo blowing up a mansion presumably full of people, etc. not that black and white and their sequels didn't, of course. it was just... more subtle in how they did it, i suppose.

I'm just wondering how Celebi is going to be typed now. I mean if anything it's Psychic typing should change but it's a legendary so do you think it'll even change at all?

Not really, I think too many people want the pixies to change just because they're called pixies by the community, I like Celebi as a Psychic type and even though it could change to Fairy/Grass I don't think they will if only cause there hasn't been any retypings that we know of that involve a dual typed mon

That's cool. Normal/Fairy typing could actually give Granbull utility in lower tiers, considering how cool its abilities are and how decent its Attack is. Being outclassed by Ursaring forever would be a sadness :(

However, I liked the addition of the friendly ennemies (N and Colress). I hope we'll see more of them...
