Jesus christ the layout is disgusting in my mind

I'll just have to adapt or things get nice or whatever. It just looks too fluffy and focusing on buffers around peoples' names and avatars rather than the information itself.
 
Well, we could have used vBuilletin 4. But, if it's secure, it's great. I just don't want hackers getting on my jock. I kind of missed social groups. The scenery of social groups are astounding!
 
i like it. i do agree that it looks a little too inorganic for my taste [not as bad as the ps! forums, though - good god those are awful]. more security is also always great.

that said, i did prefer the larger avatars, and the lacking of gif avatars is a shame. the hide tag probably needs to be implemented for convenience reasons, and the ability to edit a post after 5 minutes seems almost mandatory to me.

the like function, however, is long overdue, and is a great addition - as well as smilies that actually look good! :rolleyes:

The like button is pretty cool, it gives you a sense of gratitude. Here, I am gonna make the most hypocritical post ever: Thumbs up if you hate thumbs up posts!
But, the like button has some downsides, as it might flood the forums with bad posts like the thumbs up one. The larger avatars aren't the biggest problems. One thing, more

I'm sure we're all going to get used to it eventually, (YouTube does this to us all the time, after all) but for now, I'm in the camp that hates the new layout...

I think (hope) that old features will be re-added and the color themes change. I am not sure how the new software works but I am certainly hoping friends lists make a return...followers/following just seems so impersonal to me...not to mention somewhat stalker-ish. I also miss having names/badges/titles above the avatar rather than under...although that's just a minor thing. I also dislike how all avatars are the same size. And dafuq Smogon...I am not new!!! So mean.

I'm also kind of annoyed at all the question mark/gender symbol avatars, and the fact that old hide tags no longer work and are just sitting around...makes the forum look very undeveloped. Those problems will solve themselves in time, of course. Just gotta be patient I guess.

Glad Smogon is back in time for my birthday though...is the "today's birthdays" feature going to be added soon? I hope so.
 
well, unlike youtube, a rule can be made that states spam posts like that are illegal, and it can actually be enforced [not too harshly, of course - just a warning initially]

the gender mark thing is dumb though

well a lot of people were forced to change their avatars because they didn't have them saved [like me] so that's probably part of it.

I was actually referring to the fact that YouTube switches up its layout often (or at least used to, I think we have had the current layout since November) and we have to get used to it every time.

If you get alerted that I used the "Reply" button to post this, that would be a major plus for the new layout.
 
I realize this is all still in the works, but I hope they do a little tweaking to the like post option. I don't think a like means as much if you can like any and every post. If you limit the number of likes we're allowed to give per day, likes are more valuable, circle jerking is limited, it's less likely to be abused by noobs, and people have to deal with fewer, less important alerts cluttering up more important alerts. Other sites I frequent do this, and it seems to work well. One site I visit doesn't, and likes are a problem.

I think you might be worrying a bit too much. The only one abusing the like system right now is you... Also, I don't think it really matters if likes are unlimited as A) it really doesn't affect anybody, as all you really get is an alert, and you can always just turn off alerts for liked posts (Likes your message Someone likes one of your messages in a thread) in the settings, B) if somebody actually takes the time to like every post they see, they're just wasting their time, and C) the likes don't really matter anyway.
 
i dont have a problem with the # of likes. in the end better posts will get more likes, no matter what

I figured you were trying to make a point about likes mattj, considering the only post I've seen in this forum so far without a like from you is your own. That said, I agree with limiting likes per day. Also hoping they can be disabled down the track if they end up resulting in more shitty one-liners to grab likes opposed to serious discussion.
 
How will I know when to post my 2k? And how will people know that I'm not lying about actually having 2k posts? How will people know that I've been here for 4 years and I'm not quite as immature as my username might suggest?
 
When you click on a user's username under their avatar all that info pops up. Except instead of "Posts" it says "Messages".

It's just not as convenient since it's hidden.
 
its not bad its just different. liking posts not a bad idea but theres always going to be people who like everything for no reason so it might get old realllll fast.
good chance to change avatars too I guess lol.
