personally i'm just wondering how Fennekin is supposed to punch anyway

i guess i should really worry about it considering Gastly can learn the elemental punches and such but still

Don't get too suspicious about Glow Punch. If it was a new move that they meant to reveal (and talk about), then an official website will likely update us with its information at the same relative time they update with information on Orotto and underwater routes as another point of exploration interest (either that, or they talk about HMs).

Did anyone else see that we can still ride bikes?

And the Kalos region has a funny obsession with fountains, which I like so far
BISEXUACYCLES2.png

Also, there are train tracks, which makes me wonder if we'll get to enjoy revamped subway battles, perhaps??? That much is wishful thinking, since fighting on a train is always cool.

One more note. This trailer stated a release date of October 10th, but the last English trailer to make any promises said it would be out worldwide October 12th, which means there's a two-to-three day time period that the games are getting released...this is important to me. I can't read japanese

well we knew that when pokebeach talked about it

No it didn't, look again.

So i can only assume you're talking about this
gnLHpnk.png

which is referring to the pokemon event where there will be a XY demo in August

I'm the one who didn't check the news sources first this time around. Pardon me for being out of the loop.

This trailer gets me most excited for the abundance of in-game areas/objects that look like they were practically made for Photo Spots. The specularity on the gold in that fountain really draws your eye in, partly because it looks a little slapped on in a still frame (the games don't appear to use a light source set in the sky that would alter the shininess of objects with a high specularity as your view of it changes while in the overworld), but at first glance, it's very appealing. The train stop is a great piece of architecture that brings a lot of life to the region for showing another sign of transportation, even if it's just something you pass by like the cabs in Lumiose City. Every new area gets me more excited, squee!

I like how you can change the trainers skin and clothing.... I wish it was better still.
We don't know much about it, but we do know it at least allows for SOME leeway and isn't some standard "okay choose your face and hair color and now you're on to your journey" crap, and can allow you to change hairstyles, color, skin, clothing (and whether you keep a hat or not yesssssss), etc.. I don't know about you guys but I hope you have the option to change (nick)names during this journey. I mean one day I will want to make my trainer look like DPPt Ace Trainers and the next day Zero Gary Oak. So it'd be nice if you could change your (nick)name so it fits whatever you're trying to make your character look like.

I can only wish that you can change your hight and body shape.

Changing nicknames seems unlikely imo, and while height/weight is plausible, it just seems clothes related things/skin/accessories would be the customization which is fine imo. I wonder if there are more than one type of clothes/hats. If so that'd be cool.

any idea when this trailer is coming out in english?
lol no clue. Hopefully over the next few days, but it may be released at any point in time before the Genesect movie gets dubbed, since the Pokémon Company/TPCi seem(s) to have some sort of line up of merchandising and marketing leading up to the dubbed movie.

Well, look who may be plot important.

I don't really see it, though. Like the shape is sort of similar, but the lack of actual, like, double helix markings.....

This trailer has no reason to be tied to the Genesect movie's dub. Nothing shown in there is related to it aside from the clip of mewtwo (doing something it never does in the movie).
They have dozens of genesect & mewtwo merchandise & events to use, they don't need to hold the XY trailer hostage.

I suspect they might hold off until corocoro, though, since Orotto (and presumably other things shown in here like Dive, glow punch, Newtwo's move) will probably be shown there and unlike Honedge a big deal wasn't made about the reveal
Or the demo event, actually.

Something like that would be a desirable way for multi-type moves to work.
Some set-up where the move has both types and considers match ups for both those types would be too complicated.
Also, what psychic type wouldn't like a move that it has STAB on and that deals fighting damage?
But what's the point of being a "dual-type" when the damage is calculated only as a Fighting type? Or maybe it's like this: If Glow Punch is used on Scrafty, it'd do Fighting-type damage.. but if it's used on Crobat instead, it'll do Psychic-type damage.

Also did anyone notice this?

NewTwo is kind of breaking out from a shell or something. Highly intriguing.

The point, in this scenario, is to give more type coverage while also still getting stab.

Since we're already making assumptions, let's also go with Glow Punch being a special type move & usable power.
Alakazam wants to hit things with something not called Focus Blast. Now he has both an alternative and gets stab on it.
It's gimmicky yes but there's a lot of moves like that (uhhh gimmicky that is).

This is a neat idea too, though.

It has to be part of the attack animation, which is interesting. This is a trainer battle being shown.

It'd be painful to see, but they can use the fact that it was originally a tie-in to the Genesect movie and try to replicate that by marketing it as a lead-up to the movie, regardless of whether the commercial is released in time with August's CoroCoro

I think Gamefreak will nerf Dark Void because in a recent tournament, they banned Dark Void. Gamefreak knows what is OP. Indeed, a 80% accurate sleep move on a Pokemon with 125 speed with no sleep clause is OP.

Now with this dual type attack. Gamefreak probably look at moves like Fire Punch and went OMG, it could be fire or fighter type. Hence, due to their indecision, decided to make it both.

Here's what I think dual type attack will be: Take Fire Punch as an example. When a Pokemon execute Fire Punch the system will generate a random integer between 1 and 2. If it is 1 Fire Punch is a Fire type attack, if it is 2 Fire Punch is a Fighting type attack.

But it really wasn't a tie-in to the genesect movie
It wasn't advertised as "COME SEE GENESECT AND SEE A NEW TRAILER!!" or in the e-shop as "THE GENESECT TRAILER NOW AVAILABLE TO ALL"
Aside from newtwo nothing in the trailer was in the movie. It fails to advertise anything.

They certainly wont, in a best case scenario*, sit on a trailer for 2 months (since the Genesect movie dub will likely air in September) when by then there will probably be far more relevant trailers to show off actual new information.

*note that this scenario** relies on Carton Network letting them air the minute long trailer as a commercial
**worst scenario, by the by, would probably be holding off until the DVD which would be somewhere in the ball park of December to February.

iirc, Dark Void has been banned since sometime in gen 4. Since around Platinum, maybe?

Though I don't think they care that much that their event legendary (which are banned by default regardless of actual usability) being broken

I think the recent tournament is a 3 on 3 anything goes except Dark Void and Soul Dew, though I could be wrong.

Ah, right right, I forgot they tend to have anything goes tournaments now for special occasions.

But my point still mostly stands: They likely wont nerf Dark Void. It's only available on two Pokemon, one of which is commonly banned in most (but not all, thank you for the reminder) tournaments and in-game facilities.
I mean by the same tune, Soul Dew isn't nerfed despite having been banned since (sheesh) gen 3?

wait do you seriously mean that fire punch could be either fire or fighting type. Random move types? HOW ABOUT NO.

That would be fucking dandy if there was this top tier pokemon and his most important move was this attack that could be either steel type or fighting type and everyone hates using it because it's fucking random but at the same time you have to use it. Like focus blast kinda.

Map for reference.
That first picture is probably from Lumiose City, whereas the second one is from the route directly southeast of it. The last one interests me, though. Look at the very east edge of the map. In the released map, it was hard to tell what this was, if it was an aquaduct or a viaduct, or a railway bridge. This picture reveals that it's the latter. I wonder where that railroad goes? There are no rails east of the station, which is located far out in the wilderness. That means the tracks go somewhere westwards, into the mountain. And there is no visible exit. Perhaps it is a part of a metro system in Lumiose? Paris is famous for its many catacombs and tunnels underneath the city. Could it be that the railroad takes you to an inaccessible part of the Lumiose underground? Or is it meant for transport into a cave/mine system somewhere? And why is the station just there, in the middle of nowhere, of all places? I'm willing to guess it's a postgame location, seeing as it's so far away from everything.

I'm also intrigued by the route leading to the station. See the islands in the river? The little cave in the west cliffside? The dots in the east cliffside? Apparently, it's a path of sorts. Where could this path go? What might we find in that cave? Is it tied to the railroad somehow? Of all the places on the map, this is the one I look the most forward to explore.

Gamefreak make stupid move like these, (see Hyperbeam). Besides, like 80% of all moves are competitively unviable. We should know by now that Gamefreak does not create move only for competitive reasons but also flavor reasons.

And I am not saying dual type attack will be everywhere, it will probably appear in a few moves.

And you're right, a top tier Pokemon won't not use a move like this, but also Dialga will not use Roar of Time, Dragonite will not use Dragon Rush, etc.

Although a random type attack can have some uses. A risk and reward thing.

Also, you seriously need to calm yourself, hothead.

Goddamn well that's probably not the dual type mechanic people had in mind when they first heard about dual type attacks. Random type still sounds damned stupid but man is it really that bad compared to critical hits and uuhhhhhhh i dunno plenty of stuff. Probably.
