Steel/Fairy type?
Fairy SE against Dragon?
Steel resists Dragon?
Huge Power?
Higher defenses?
Hold onto your hats, people - Mega Mawile is the new Dragon slayer.

I think move tutor will play a huge role with the mega pokes.. If not Ampharos will just have Dragon Pulse in its learning move set..

Mawile while its Mega gives it buff in both defenses its still is slow and has terrible HP so I think we shouldn't judge it as Dragon slayer this early..

If Mawile is a new Dragon Slayer, along with MMawile, that doesn't necessarily mean you should put away your Ice Punch Metagross or your Timid Choice Scarf Glaceon. I think of it more as an extremely powerful wall/stall/sweeper. MMawile does seem powerful, but until the OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED type matchup chart for the Fairy type is released, we actually shouldn't guess the use/vulnerability of any Fairy type yet. Anyway, don't put your EV trained Dragons on the shelf either.

I doubt it learns a move mid battle and everytime it mega evolves. No Ampharos will most likely just be able to learn the move. Like when Ninetales was able to learn energy ball in Generation V through TM but not in generation IV through TM.

At least we haven't heard of MegaArcheops!

Knowing GF, it'll be clad in rocky armor, have good offense/defense, and be nearly unstopable. And still have Defeatist.

Does anyone else think that maybe the reason MegaKangaskhan wasn't upgraded is because the real focus of the MEvo is for the baby to evolve?

It gained weight, not mass. Also, yeah, if it had gained mass, that would be accounted for by the additional energy inserted into the system. Sort of confused why one of the captions says "...increased speed, the Night Slash move with its high critical-hit chance becomes even more potent." Ohrly RBY mechanics?
Maybe, just maybe, Critical Hits Percentages now work like the speed/weight moves? :o

Pretty sure that they just mean with the higher speed Absol will attack first more often allowing you more opportunities to take advantage on Night Slash's high crit chance.

What's interesting is that the Mega Ampharos description on the main site mentions "changing your type in the middle of a battle can throw your opponent out of a loop etc."

That... sort of implies just holding the item doesn't instantly change the type.
The only chance now of Megas being viable is if this just means we still have team preview. If it takes a turn, I don't see Megas being used at all.

One of my concerns has always been "how can we get pokemon down in the NU or UU tier up to OU or even Ubers without leaving their pre-evolutions God-like while holding an Eviolite. This does it pretty nicely, IMO.

If Garchomp or whosoever can outspeed MegaMawile, they can prolly still Flamethrower her into oblivion without having to raise a claw.

Can garchomp take a 999 attack sucker punch?
Huge power Mawile sucker punch vs 0/0 garchomp:
88-104%

^ What he said. Fairies are (supposedly) weak to Steel and Poison. However, Mawile is immune to Poison, and (if the rumours are true) still neutral to steel. It's a damn good trade-off, if the dragon immunity and stuff is true.

Huge powe
Pretty sure it can. :)
It's 88-104%, after a layer of spikes it dies, and even then we don't know if priority fairy type moves exist/what he has. You can switch garchomp in on him, but what if he predicts it and uses a fairy move?
After Spikes and SR not really: +2 252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 299-352 (83.51 - 98.32%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Spikes
You forgot to make it adamant.

I dunno how I feel about this Blaziken event. If Fennekin's evo is even slightly lame I dont see anyone picking it over a Megablaziken. Hell even I have my doubts even though I was originally going to pick Fennekin.

I just realized why they made mega evolutions instead of just giving pokemon like Absol, Lucario, and Mawhile an evolution. It's because they introduced the eviolite in the last generation. With the mega evolutions in play that means that the eviolite can never be used on pokemon that receive a mega evolution. Thus giving gamefreak more freedom to make pokemon without having to worry about there earlier evolutions overshadowing the final evolution. Like with Porygon2 and Porygon Z

With horrendous Pokemon such as Mawile, Farfetch'd, Delibird, Pinsir, Girafarig, and Dunsparce to give evolutions to (just a few from the top of my head) i think that them overshadowing their evos with Eviolite would be impossible.

It depends entirely on the evolution they make for it. Of course it can't get any worse than Luvdisc or Farfetch'd so them outshining there evolution would be rather slim but your missing the point. It's that some pokemon could end up being on par or surpassing there evolution. Which defeats the purpose of an evolution in the first place. The best example of this would have to be Chansey and Blissey.

This is stupid reasoning

If they seriously thought Eviolite was such a huge pain, especially such a huge pain that it actively prevented normal evolutions from getting the show time they wanted, they could either nerf Eviolite or be rid of it entirely. Or keep it but ban it competitively.

And adding on to what Alexwolf said, a large number of pokemon that could recieve evolutions are so bad off that Eviolite wouldn't make them more likly to be used over would-be evolutions.
And the Pokemon that can really make huge use of eviolite to the point of overshadowing their evolution are few in number, anyway.
