Pokémon XY General Discussion

Not sure if anyone has seen this yet:

This is a double battle shown in an XY preview. 3 things I want to point out are:

1. The move Topsy-Turvy seems to be a stronger version of Contrary. Malimar used it on its teammate Noivern after it had used Draco Meteor (animation looks awesome, btw) and it ended up with a +2 in its Sp.Atk instead of the -2 drop.

2. Politoed has Drizzle--which means that either the Dream World will still exist or that it will be possible to transfer Pokemon from older games into XY.

3. The battle ended with a 1v1 match between Politeod and Sylveon. Sylveon took 2 Life Orb boosted, rain boosted, STAB Hydro Pumps, one of which was a CRITICAL HIT, from Poli and still had about 50% health before taking Politoed down with Moonblast. Now I know that Poli doesn't have the best Sp.Atk stat but taking 2 LO Hydro Pumps in the rain with one being a crit from anything has to be a 3HKO just about any Pokemon and Sylveon could have taken maybe 2 more hits before going down.

TL;DR - Sylveon has a base 200 Sp.Def #SylveonForUbers
yes, this was a big deal a few pages ago

From Serebii. Sad that NYC isn't on there, but still, that is awesome!
Honestly, I don't see any reason to go these events except to get SP tags. The actual release come literally two weeks after the demo, and we'll all have the type chart long before then. They should have just released the demo on the eshop instead of these live events

You are about one and a half weeks late on that. We just extinguished the flame war on Sylveon's stats in Politoed battle, please don't bring this back up again.

I remember them talking about wifi battles during the E3 round table and they pretty much said that "nothing has changed" so it almost seems like it's not making a return.

But wait a second, do you have a sauce on them saying that? I tried looking it up and couldn't find anything.

they ironically came up with new matchups in the anime that they had to implement into the games, because CONTINUITY (did you know that Psychic types were originally immune to Ghost types?)

In Generation I, Ghost-type moves have no effect on Psychic-type Pokémon, though an abundance of evidence suggests that this may have been an error. Multiple sources mention that Ghost-type moves are super effective on Psychic-type Pokémon: official strategy guides published by Nintendo, two episodes of the anime (The Tower of Terror and Haunter versus Kadabra), and even the games themselves, where a Trainer in the Saffron Gym mentions that Psychic-type Pokémon "only fear Bugs and Ghosts" (though the reference to Ghost-type Pokémon was removed in Yellow). This was changed in Generation II to make Ghost moves actually be super effective against Psychic Pokémon. -Bulbapedia

Pretty sure that immunity was not intentional... and fixing it had nothing to do with the anime.

It releases the 15th, but we got a leak the 8th this month, which is I think is the earliest we've ever gotten one, so anywhere between the 8th and the 15th it will leak.
The August issue leaked early this month because the magazine itself releases early in the month of August

The september issue goes on sale this month on the 14th, however

I guess they really love speculation and don't care for American fans. We have always been left out of things when it comes to Nintendo.

I actually feel like it's good this way. Usually by now we'd pretty much know everything about the games. It leaves a lot up to imagination and builds the excitement.

I wouldn't go so far to say that they don't care at all, since Nintendo has a long history of heavily product-placing trademarks that they want to be popular(whether they cared for the quality of that product placement is debatable). Recently though, they've been coming up with strange demo schedules for things that they don't want to put on the e-shop first, including the new Donkey Kong game. That and a few others have available in-store demos, but the locations are sparse. They're really trying to sell the connections and "everybody comes together" aspect with Pokémon, which is why they turn a demo into a touring convention; they want to gather fans together.

Does the Demo Convention Tour put the nail in the coffin of a possible eShop demo.....?
Not necessarily (Wonderful 101 had tons of demos but still got an e-shop demo), but at this point I doubt it just because of how the demo's set up on a timer and it's kind of short in general

Is it possible they'll make another demo just for e-shop or is it completely Farfetch'd? I mean I know it's wishful thinking, but I certainly hope so. Even if it was identical the demo shown, I'd still would like having it.

There are literally no locations in the southeast.

FUCK THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS

Oh well, at least a few of those dates are after X and Y come out in the USA. (seriously, what the hell?)

Hey, at least you GET demos... Over here in the UK we just have to wait till Launch... That's a point I wonder if they are going to do midnight opening :o

I very much doubt there will be an eShop Demo... Why bother? The game is already hyped to shit anyway, there is no point :P By this point in time a demo is not going to sway anyone into buying or not buying the game.

I believe that it will go up on the eshop Midnight Oct 12th probably EST. I think that's when they put things up iirc.

Nintendo doesnt really offer demos for their first party titles for customer . Usually they're event or retailer only.

Itll probably end up in demo kiosks in some form

Problem with that is it will take me 6 hours or more to Download... Cause the game is not going to be small and I have terrible internet :P So I have no option but to get the carts on launch day.

So how will mega evolutions affect the balanced hackmons metagame? Will we be able to edit the moves of both forms? Because I could see switching from Prankster SporeSpike Blaziken into a Contrary sweeper MegaBlaziken as being a little overpowered.

Balanced Hackmons won't even be a thing...the 3DS isn't fully hacked yet like the original/DS Lite. It only has ONE flashcart designed to play 1:1 roms and that is it so far.
It think it'll be a WHILE before we start seeing things like this.

You underestimate the power of Other Metagames.

I'm with DHR here in that X and Y will probably be way too big to download in a reasonable span of time though - I might download X at some point, but I'll definitely be getting Y on a cart as my first game.

Also I can't connect my 3DS to the internet at college anyway.
