Pokémon XY General Discussion

Is this everything? It's substantial, granted, but I was hoping for a few more pokemon and MEvos. Guess it's only a month wait. Wish Poison was SE against water. Meh.

Liking the new reveals today. Seems GF wanted to nerf steel-types as well. Gengar got quite the unusual buff this gen with steels being neutral to dark and ghost types and poison being strong against fairy types. The New fossils look amazing as well. :-D

ROCK/ICE APATOSAURUS

ROCK/DRAGON T-REX

DINOSAUR FANBOY BONER

I have too many Pokemon I want for an in-game themeeeeeeeeee

But also, I like the level of customization that Game Freak is introducing. Between the character, Flabébé and the new dog/griffon thing, this is going to be pretty personalized. I sure hope they introduce even more customization to older Pokemon (like different colors for Smeargle's paint, as an example).

I really love the new poodle pokemon. REAL poodles (not toy poodles) actually look like that before their fur gets trimmed and pompommed for show purposes. Normally they have a thick, wooly coat that serves as protection against lion attacks (yes you heard me right, Poodles were at one point used to hunt lions, kind of like how corgis were initially cattle dogs.)

After all it wouldn't be france without a poodle.

For the most part, I'm digging these new aspects of the game. I figured Fairy would be a powerhouse type as soon as it was revealed, but I guess we'll have to wait and see just how good it ends up being. MegaChomp will probably end up being manageable; it's essentially an item-less Landorus but with Dragon over flying. Only now, there exists types immune to each of its STABs. I'm not worried about Jirachi; the most common user of Pursuit is weak to it and defensive sets often use Protect anyway for Wish. Gengar will be huge, and if Mismagius gets retyped to Ghost/Fairy then I think we have our main OU Ghosts. Poor Ice. They had a golden opportunity to revamp and they passed it up. Maybe next gen when they decide that Ghosts and Fairies were too good.

As for these designs, I'm on the fence. Chespin went in a completely different direction and I'm not sure I like it. Fennekin's evo is fine; Froakie's evo is fantastic. They still have time to gain their additional typings, too, since only the Fire/Fighting starters gained the fighting part in their second stage (that's a second point in favor of Fire/Psychic Fennekin3). The fossils are awesome, specifically the T-Rex. And with all that said and done...we are only a month away.

Just waiting to see probable top-tier fairy types. So far they have been just little things like Flabebe and Dedenne. I want to see the big guns.

Sylveon itself may actually see some use. From videos and calculations, its stats are estimated at 95 / 60 / 65 / 110 / 130 / 65. That leaves it as a special tank capable of dishing out a hit or two as well.

As long as you aren't dark, fighting, or dragon, I don't think you have much to fear from fairies.

I think Fairy exists to counter the most powerful types in the current metagame, maybe now underpowered types will have their time to shine.

Everybody is imagining a dark or fairy dominated metagame while it is obvious Steel types got the better end of the stick (Dragon and Fairy resists) and Ghosts suddenly got a huge buff and can easily go around and counterbalance steels (especially Jirachi, Meta) or supporting steels (Fight immunity). If anything this is a Steel & Ghost show I'm predicting.

Also Gengar OU for the 6th straight gen?

N' going for the uber man, i swear gengar seems OP af to me at this point.

When Black/White came out in Japan, I played through the entire game before it came out in America. I'm so happy it is coming out in the US and the same time it is coming out in Japan before I learn all the Japanese names and consequently have them burned into my head. I still refer to Darmanitan as Hihidaruma occasionally.

I still call Jellicent Burungeru every now and then too.

Dammit, they sapped the cute from Chespin, Rollout seems justified now though. Hate how it looks (since this is crushing my 8 month long wanting of choosing Chespin) though for SOME reason, I have even higher hopes for a Chepin3, as previously mentioned. So I'm still picking it.

Fennekin... well... you could always turn the stick in your tail and have it be a staff and you could be a wizard, right?

So I guess I'm the only one who hates Froakie2? Even almost on the same level as Chespin2. It's too.... laid back? I guess would be the way to say it?

Anyways, Fairies seem to be ok. At least, if this was still gen 5 (which it isn't, and people need to start realizing it) it would be a very balanced game. Except for Ice and Bug types, that blows.

Edit: @TheMantyke Exactly my thoughts

You folks should really stop declaring anything as the next type to dominate or the next Pokemon to rule any rule set. Dragon had a lot contributing to its ridiculousness. The good neutral offensive typing was just a contributing factor. The good defensive typing with resistances to Water, Fire, Grass, and Electric, high BST users, and ridiculous base power attacks like Draco Meteor and Outrage made everything too good. I've seen a lot of people parade Gengar and ghost types as the next big threat, but they really only fulfill the good neutral offesive typing part. Ghost's immunities still leave it taking neutral damage from a ton of common types. Ghosts also have comparatively low base stats and have a mighty base 80 attack as their strongest stab. If anything, I see ghost becoming more akin to the Electric-type than this games Dragon-type.

We also are still completely in the dark for what new moves and tweaks to old moves gamefreak has in store. For those proclaiming that Scizor looks set to dominate, for all we know, Bullet Punch could be nerfed to 30 Base Power or we could get some held item that prevents moves of increased priority from working.

To put it simply, everyone's excited for the changes and thinks certain Pokemon are seeing big buffs, but calling anything useless, overpowered, or bannable at this stage is really dumb.

I still do this for Magnet Rise and call the move Electro Levitate... Because that sounds way cooler.

I am kinda so so about all this info. Fairy type interactions are cool and Steel kinda needed a defensive nerf. The Chespin evo is silly, fennekin is kinda meh and Froakie got 10x more badass than he was already.

New Pokemon seems cool enough, new abilities are pretty crazy. Half Damage from contact moves sounds great early game, and the Ice Offence one is cool (Shame the Pokemon that is tied to it does not seem like it is going to be great). I hope that thing turns into a super huge Sauropod and is actually much bigger than CoroCoro has made it out to be at this point in time.

So with the middle evolution of the starters, I switched from Chespin to Froakie (and I guess from Blastoise to venusaur now).

I'm hoping Froakie turns out to be like a Water/Fighting "Infernape-like" pokemon (i.e. Close Combat + Surf/Hydro Pump!), at least for in-game purposes.

Edit: Speaking of OU, is it expected for Azumarill to be part fairy? Because I'm concerned about
