OU Simple Questions, Simple Answers (Read the OP First!)

How much speed should I run on taunt wow scald recover jelli? I'm running like 120ish which is completely arbitrary

I haven't used Jelli in a while but I used to run enough to outspeed neutral base 70's like Politoed and Skarmory. However, I think running enough to outspeed and burn Band Tar is the optimal spread right now which requires 112 speed if I'm not mistaken.

Could I PM somebody my Hail team for some in-depth discussion? Sorry for bothering so much about this, I really need some help before a tournament on another forum and I don't want to post an RMT for that reason.

I'm just getting back into competitive battling after like six months of retirement; and i'd like to know...

What are the most used playstyles of nowadays' OU? After Deo-D and Lando-I got Uberized?

What are the current meta's threats that i should watch out for/prepare myself before building a team?

What would make good partners for an Adamant Intimidate Salamence? i want to try something different from the typical Moxie ones.

Hi there, and welcome back!

So the most common play styles are generally offence, mainly Rain offence, Sand balance, and weatherless offence. Kyurem - B, Keldeo, Breloom, Landorus - T, Scizor, and Dragonite are probably the biggest threats in todays metagame, but I suggest you try and prepare for every relevent threat possible.

Good partners for Salamence include Scizor thanks to their synergy, Dragonite is a great partner as they have similar counters (meaning they break down wach others counters nicely) and Keldeo is also really nice as it checks Scizor and Mamoswine (both of which check Salamence).

Hope this helped!

does everyone use all 31 IV pokes when battling competitively ?

The only time you'd lower your IVs is when using a Hidden Power (as you cant have it without weird IVs), or when you want your Pokemons speed to be as low as possible (something like Ferrothorn wants the lowest speed possible to power up Gyro Ball, or Trick Room based teams).

Hope this helped!

You also lower Atk IVs on Special Pokémon to lower Foul Play and Confusion damage, and Speed IVs on Trick Room Pokémon and Pokémon that use Gyro Ball. Other than that, yes, use 31 IVs.

Branching off what Halcyon. says, I also lower HP IVs (depending on the Pokemon) if it means hitting a Life Orb number, in addition to the situations he listed.

What moves affect the target's ability? Like swapping abilities, changing it etc.
EDIT: Ok. I now know that Skill Swap and Entertaintment do that. I'd just like to know that do they work through substitute?

From what I remember, theres also Gastro Acid(?), Mummy, Mold Breaker, and Worry Seed which all change the ability of your opponent. Unfortunatly I dont know if they all work behind a substitute, but eh, I hope this helps.

Edit: Mummy and Mold Breaker are abilities. Keep this in mind.

I'm looking at building a team around Heracross: any suggestions for good partners in an offensive core?
Also, some advice on which set is more viable in OU: Sub+ 3 attacks or the All-Out attacker set?
Thanks in advance!

I remember a while back someone made a pretty successful team based around a Heracross and Zoroark core so that might be a good place to start. And I'm not totally sure which set but I would assume Scarf and CB are the best ones for OU.

Heracross is a pretty self-contained mon, so you probably would like to check out some of the other cores and fit Heracross in your team afterwards. It has its niche as the fastest Moxie revenge killer not weak to a priority move, so that is worth checking out.

The analysis is not up to date on this one - Haxorus isn't very popular anymore, so Adamant is probably fine.

Unless I'm missing something, this seems like a waste of bulk. The only case were it would make sense, is that you have an multiple of 10 as HP. But why would you alter your IVs when you could fix it by changing the EV spread and retainig perfect IVs?

Well, it really depends on what Heracross set you plan to use. The Guts set is an amazing wall breaker, so paring it up with Pomemon that like having walls eliminated (Scizor, Breloom, Dragonite) is a pretty good idea. For the Scarf set with Moxie I really suggest you run hazards support, as netting the first or second KO is really crucial in starting your sweep. Just remember that faster scarfed Pokemon like Keldeo and Latios can stop your sweep cold, so carrying a check to these Pokemon (Celebi, Starmie, or a Latios of your own) seems like a good idea.

Hope this helped!

One question on my part: Aren't hazards so powerful that you can improve basicly every playstyle and every Pokemon with them? I though that nowadays it should go without saying or are there any playstyles not in need of them?
It just seems to be a bit obvious.

Is Blizzard worth using over Ice Beam on SubRoost Kyurem when using Hail? I know that it gets the perfect accuracy but the abundance of weather and lower PP make me reluctant. Are there any particular KOs that Blizzard meets or other advantages that it has or should I just stick to Ice Beam?

Stick with ice beam. The pp difference is huge and kyurem needs it to outstall stuff like the blobs and jellicent, not to mention that kyurem hits 390ish sp atk making its ice beam deadly enough to destroy anything weak to it.

Onicon Honestly, no. SR (at the very least) is so easy to fit on a team, and, as someone put it, the damage over time you can inflict with it with just one turn to set it up is much greater than attacking that turn. It helps you nab crucial KOs on many sweepers, breaks sashes, and so much more. And the number of pokemon you can fit it on easily is just preposterous. Use it, always.

Victini or darmanitan are good choices. The problem however is that without sun support they will be beyond useless whenever you face a rain team so you might at the very least consider putting sunny day in one of your other pokemon to keep rain off the field.
