Pokémon XY Leaks

Just remember that there's no such thing as a "free mega-evo", because all mega-evolutions are "free". They happen right as the turn begins, but before any attacks fire. So, if you choose to Mega-evolve that turn, there's no way you can get hit in your normal form. You should just play Mega Gengar like you would normally on the first turn!

Well yeah.

I just mean if someone has a bad matchup at the start and wants to switch, then Gengar will be able to mega evolve without taking a hit (afterwards, but still on the 1st turn). If it becomes a bad matchup for gengar, then Gengar can switch out and remain on your team as a majorly effective trapper / revenge killer.

Pursuit and priority remain a concern though.

Can a pokemon Mega-evolve, then use Theif? Or is the megastone still considered a held item?
Yes you still have the megastone after evolving, which is the biggest drawback to these Mega-evolutions because they have to be much stronger than their normal forms to offset Life Orb, Choice, etc. Kinda like a (much better) Chansey vs. Blissey argument from this gen, actually.

But the big thing with megas is that the mega actually is so great it doesn't really need one. Why scarf when you're piercing 150 speed? why use life orb when you are hitting harder than Mewtwo? etc, etc.

In fact, the only drawback is basically picking which one for which team.

Well of course, I'm not trying to say they're bad, obviously they're incredibly powerful! I was just trying to illustrate that numbers like +40 Atk aren't as overwhelming as they appear since they don't get to carry normal items like LO/Scarf as well.

You're right though, which Mega-evo to pick is going to be a huge deal in the upcoming meta... it's probably going to be just as important as which 6 Pokemon you pick when it comes to picking a mega that suits your team. Likewise, taking out your opponent's mega is going to be key!

Do we know how many boxes we get, and how many Pokemon per box?
It's still 30 pokemon per box, exact number of boxes is unknown. Probably [however many needed to have one of each pokemon] + 3, since I think that's how it's been handled since gen 3

That might be part of Nintendo's copyright bill, if that's the legal equivalent of a non-disclosure agreement--an agreement made between parties who can have legal ownership of the game/reveal information about it (Nintendo themselves, reviewers--whomever else Nintendo lets have it before the street date). However, they cannot, and I mean CANNOT restrict American citizens from posting/saying whatever they want on the internet. If corporations can use cash as "free speech" then we can post whatever the fuck we want about a corporations IP. The onus is not on us as individuals "leaking" the game's contents, but the legal obligations of the companies selling the game before street date; if you give in to intimidation then you accept a corporation's authority. Sorry but it gets my blood boiling.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with you. I'm merely stating the fact that Nintendo has gone out of their way to try and keep the games content as closed lipped as possible. To be honest though, I don't blame them. This world wide release date means a lot to them.

what i would like to see is gengar bluffing a megastone while the real mega is absol or something...

shadow tag mindgames + the ability to destroy ghosts that can't be trapped, even in its normal form
The thing with this bluff is that the moment someone sees an absol on your team the bluff fails miserably

see also: mawile, ampharos, kangaskhan...

That might work with like, Garchomp and Gengar or Gyarados and Gengar. No one is gonna believe that you're using regular Absol. In that case you would actually surprise your opponent way more if you were using regular Absol, which could still prove for some interesting mind games!

Mega Gengar likely won't survive very long in OU. Still plenty of competitive pokemon getting megas though. Is Mega TTar confirmed Steel Dark? :)

I would like to know this also. Mega Tyranitar as Steel/Dark would give it some pretty interesting resists... But it doesn't help his fighting weakness...

Would work a lot better with something that can be both mega and non-mega, like Gyarados.

About Megamawile, I'd have hoped it would have a better BST than 480. 110/110 defences aren't all that great with only 50 HP (and it doesn't seem like a sharp increase, I would've expected at least 130).

It would surely miss its Sandstream if it was still Rock/Dark, if only for itself (because of the nerf and all). May something like Solid Rock will make up for this.

That's a great idea (assuming like R_N said your real mega is something you'd normally see in that tier like MegaTTar, etc). Gengar and other pokemon who have speed-boosting Mega's could also bluff that you'll Mega-evolve and outspeed them, like bluffing a scarf.
Surely there is a comprehensive list of all the new items, abilities, and moves..?
Look in the Data Collection thread! It's slowly building up everything we know about the games (although we won't know everything until after launch).

I'm okay with Steel Dark, but Sand Stream gives normal Tyranitar a boost in Special Defense already. That's a pretty big thing to lose in some cases.

I think Mega TTar will probably be pretty good, but given that he's already so good and such a staple in OU people will choose other mons for their one and only mega. His Mega form will probably see some use in Ubers though. :0

Though at least one of the megas (Aerodactyl) doesn't seem to fit the 100+ BST pattern. Maybe Mawile's another exception?

Mega Mawile might be the best Mega Evolution of them all. It has amazing utility without a mega evolution. The fairy/steel typing gives it arguably the best typing in the game. It will be slow, but has great priority. It's attack is doubled with its ability. It has the movepool to be pretty much anything and the coverage for very few to counter or check it.

Granted, it is one of the few megas that get a much bigger boost than they would have with a regular item. And well, people do use Rotom-W as a tank and it has worse defences, so maybe it has a chance at viability after all? It still has competition for the mega slot with things like Lucario though.

Please note that all discussion threads in this forum will close later today (10/10) for a twenty-four hour period as the new structure of the forum is set up. Afterward, there will be new threads to discuss your first-hand experiences with XY (instead of uselessly speculating over a million unrelated topics).

Your right in that regard, but if Ttar gets a valuable boost when mega-evolving, I'm sure he'll see a decent amount of use. Especially if he gets Sand Force or Sand Rush with it.

Do we know if his ability changes yet?

Have there been reports of any major plot differences between the two versions? I keep searching but I'm coming up empty.

The leakers say, Team Flare have different motivations in X and Y. Apparently:

In X, Flare are killing Pokemon to get eternal life for themselves and set up their Nazi dictatorship in which they remake the world.
In Y, they're basically causing Third Impact and remaking the world from the ground up.
Both of these involve imprisoning the respective box legendary in a soul-sucking machine - the same one that was used in a war 3000 years ago.
It's pretty dark heavy stuff, maybe the darkest villainous team in a main series game since Plasma.

if t tar became a steel type he would get owned by mega charizard Y, i dont see him losing his rock typing and sandstorm as an upgrade

Mega gengar being faster than weavile. Fk. Looks like I won't be pursuit trapping this thing safely any time soon without a choice scarf.
